Definitely a little gem. Ditto reguarding the beds, slept like a baby.
The Valet staff are great, I truely felt pampered. Room service was very fast, and friendly. Great location. Two thumbs up.

No surprises here. The Le Merigot experience is something special, and they deliver the goods. Hotel is extremely well located. Physically, a beautiful intimate place that is well-maintained. Redundant staffing is always available to make your stay pleasurable, but is never intrusive.
Great L.A. informality, but still invested in giving a high level of service. Le Merigot offers true fine dining. Check-in was easy, and we were given an upgrade. Tasteful room was as silent as a vault, and included a several luxurious amenities. Room service was excellent and timely. Highly recommended.

I stayed at the hotel in November 2003 for just one night and I wished I could have stayed longer. The service was exceptional! I arrived very early (7 am), which was no problem. I got a room anyway, which was much much better than the one I had booked over the internet (compared to no/obstructed view I got ocean view and a huge porch!) As others have already mentioned the beds were exquisit, very european (a down duvet!!) and very comfortable. My most favourite little extra was the little rubber turtle for the bath tub! Since the food was rather expensive I went into downtown Santa Monica for Dinner and Breakfast, which is only a 5 minute walk away.

My fiance and I can honestly say that the bed at Le Merigot was the most comfortable hotel bed either of us has ever stayed in. The rooms are sparkling clean, have thick & lush towels, soft sheets and bedding, and huge bathrooms. Moreover, all of the staff - from the front desk to housekeeping to the bell hops - were friendly, accommodating, and down to earth. We stayed in luxury without being made to feel like we should have to thank them for it. Obviously, one of the biggest perks is the location. Le Merigot is right at the beach. Waking up to the fresh ocean air (and we had a non-ocean view!) was wonderful. This hotel is worth every penny & we would definitely go back.

I recently attended an educational conference at Le Merigot. I was somewhat worried after reading some of the negative reviews, but it is a first class hotel. I went to the conference alone and left the family home, so I didn't indulge in a ocean-view room; my window faced the Loew's (but I could see a bit of the ocean.) The rooms are spacious, and the bed linens are exquisite (even a guy like me could appreciate it.) What separates this hotel from your usual chains is the fine little touches, such as the candles, robes, and the toiletries in the bathroom. In fact, there was even a little rubber whale for the bathtub! I found the staff pleasant and helpful. The courtyard was sunny and pleasant, and this was January. Other reviews have advised about the charges (parking, $27 daily, a bottle of water, $7.95) but I got a good deal on the hotel's website for $189.

I attended a meeting here. Had some doubts due to variable experiences with Marriott. We travel first cabin, avoiding chains whenever possible, and we are pretty picky. The room was smallish but lovely and the bed and linens top notch. We had a balcony with a full ocean view.
Too bad the wall surrounding the balcony completely blocked the view when you sat down. We ate breakfast only and the food and service was very good. My wife enjoyed the spa, and the machines in the gym were all in good working order. We had our evening cocktails at Shutters as the view was better. The staff was very helpful but the concierge directed us to a shopping street that had nothing but mall-like stores.
Got us a table at Michaels and we enjoyed a very nice meal- made up for the poor shopping tips.

Top Notch..

We used Marriott Rewards (and paid $70 to upgrade to an Ocean View Room) and were completely pleased by our room. We only stayed for 2 nights and I wish I could have stayed longer. This hotel had seating everywhere -comfortable couches to read on inside and out. I never got to enjoy the pool, but it looked wonderful. The gym was the best I've seen at a hotel.

This is an upscale hotel, things liking parking and the spa are going to be expensive. If you are on a budget stay somewhere else, if your not this is the place.

This is truly a 5 star experience and what a location. From our room, we could see the Santa Monica Pier and Amusement park plus the beach and the ocean.Service at the hotel from the Front Desk to the Terrace Lounge was top notch.It was within walking distance of the Promenade on 4th street plus the mall on Broadway. Many choice restaurants also within easy walking distance.Staying there made the weekend exceptional.

Potentially Wonderful but there are some Problems

We stayed for a week at this hotel in August via the Marriott Rewards programme and had a very good time, mainly because we loved Santa Monica and this hotel is very well located. Our room (423) was on a corner - not seaview - but quite large with two double beds and plenty of space. The beds were superb with excellent linen and pillows, quite outstanding. The bathroom was smaller than I expected and quite plain, but on the other hand the vanitory area was outside it in the dressing area and was well equipped with a lighted mirror etc. The supplied cosmetics were super. Towels were plentiful and of a very high standard. In fact we were very very comfortable. The reception staff were on the supercilious side but the bell staff were outstandingly helpful and friendly as were the room staff. As a family of four on a budget, we passed on the $20 per head breakfast, but took full advantage of the free coffee on offer (they would even bring it to your room free) every morning. We also enjoyed the free fruit, beverages and cheese available in the spa near the swimming pool every day!!!! The pool area was smallish but the gym was superb - enormous for a hotel.
The spa was extremely expensive. I have used spas in many hotels and on cruise ships and this one was outrageous. A pity because if it had been about 1/2 the price, I would have booked several treatments. The service around the pool was hard to come by and extremely slow. 40 minutes for a drink. Well over an hour for food - well over an hour.
That's not acceptable in a hotel of this standard. The prices of food and drink were ridiculous too - but I expected that. We had 4 sodas at the pool and our bill was $21. We had a pot of coffee for two in our room one morning when we'd missed the free service at it was $15 (no cookies or anything either). It was crazy because it actually put you off using their services. Worst of all though was the parking. It was a scandal. $26 plus tax per night. We ended up parking in a public multistory in town about 7 minutes walk away rather than pay it. It was more expensive for guests to park here than the Beverly Hills Hotel Visitors Valet Parking - and that's a fact. The other really bad thing was the cost of bottled water. This was wierd. They give you free bottles of water in your room. They give you free bottles of water around the spa and gym. They give you free bottles of water as you leave the hotel each day. BUT, don't take one of the SAME bottles of water from your room fridge, cos if you do it will cost you a cool $9.75 per bottle. Santa Monica is fab though. Wonderful clean beach, loads of restaurants, fantastic shopping. We would very much recommend eating at Shatzi on Main. Arnie used to own it apparently. Fantastic atmosphere, great food and drink and best of all very reasonable.
Please try it, you won't regret it.

very poor staff service

Don't bother requesting a room through their reservation line because they will not accomodate you. We stayed there for over a week and they were still not able to fulfill our request for a courtyard room. They do not seem to care about repeat business!! We travel to California about once every two months and I would never stay there again!!

Top Local Tips for Santa Monica

jogging a long jog on the poedestrian walkway along the beach to venice beach is excellent - but only do it in daylight!

Bike to Venice Beach Go to the beach, rent a bicycle and cycle to Venice Beach for all fo its tacky fun scene with the shops, street performers, beach scene. It is a blast.Third Street Promenade on a Saturday morning for the farmer's market and on a Saturday night for the street performers.

Great shooping at Main St & around Third St If you want to go shopping, then go to Main St. It takes ages as it's such a long road but loads of bargains and non-chain shops to grab individual items, gifts (All prices catered for) Also, you must hang out and shop around Third St, lots of late night shopping, dining and atmosphere. Very safe and friendly even very late at night.
