This hotel has friendly, warm, helpful staff and it's position is perfect for Santa Monica Beach and Pier. The restaurants are very good and the pool area lovely. The best feature are the luxurious beds and spotless en suite. Buses are nearby, taxis always on standby but walking is good too, close to beach etc. Enjoyable stay and would recommend highly.

Sub-par facility

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed for 4 nights in August 2004, and the lobby floor was undergoing renovation. The desk clerk said all the rooms had been renovated and they were doing the lobby last. All I can say is that if this is what they call a renovated room, then the joke is on their customers. The room I stayed in showed no trace of any renovation whatsoever.

1. The bathtub/shower was moldy and ill-kept.

2. The sliding glass door to the "ocean view" balcony required brute force to open and close because it would often fall off the track.

3. You could see the ocean view all right, but in looking out at the ocean, the slum/barrio that stretches from the hotel to the beach dominates the view (believe me, it isn't pretty).

4. A staff member severely dented my car when he valet parked it because the udersized parking garage became full (of course he denied it).

All in all, a quite mediocre hotel with incompetent employees. Stay somewhere else.

Stay away!!!

DO NOT THINK ABOUT STAYING HERE!!! The hotel is being renovated and is a complete mess!!! BEWARE!!!

Enjoyed the Sheraton

Spent a week here and my first impression of the lobby was that this was a nice, business class hotel but that the lobby could use a bit of renovation but, we soon found out that a major renovation was starting today the 12th of July. The whole lobby, bar and pool area are getting completely redone and the hotel is being upgraded to a Sheraton (not Four Points Sheraton). The rooms have already been upgraded and were tastefully decorated. The beds are so comfortable with the down comforters and pillows. We did not hear any noise from neighboring rooms or the hallways. The one thing that was lacking was a bureau. There is very little drawer space if you have alot of baggage and like to unpack everything. They do have a laundry for guests which is a plus when travelling with children and the parking was free and there were plenty of spaces. When I became familiar with the layout of the town I realized that we were just 3 blocks up a small incline from a beautiful beach and it was adjacent to the 6 star Casa del Mar and the 5 star Shutters hotel. You can also walk to the famous Santa Monica Pier its about a 15 minute walk along scenic paved pathway on the beach. The beach has a biking path that takes you all the way to Marina del Rey and passes through Venice. There are bike rentals all over even for children with training wheels and bikes for 2. The staff at the hotel are extremely pleasant and accomodating and I never got charged for my son's rollaway bed! All the rooms have a balcony and some overlook the Pacific on the higher floors. There is a nice fitness center with TV that was not heavily used. There is a cute restaurant on the mezzaine level which seemed to attract a fair crowd for breakfast and dinner although we did not get the chance to eat there. The lobby pool is average size but very warm with large ample towels and there is access on the 2nd floor to a large pool for laps (though not heated) and a hot tub which may not have been functioning when we were there. This pool was very quiet and there were plenty of chairs by both pools. Lincoln road (a busy throughfare) is 1 block up from the hotel and is filled with places for fast food, chicken places, some coffee & donut places (its not a fancy street) etc but a car is advisable to get around. Main street is 2 blocks down towards the ocean and when you arrive at the center it is filled with boutiques and restaurants its about a 15 minute walk. I would definitely stay here again especially if you can obtain a good rate. The other hotels namely, Loews, Mariott are at least double the price and are only a few blocks away.

Fabulous swanky hotel great price!!!!

This place was a great find for the Santa Monica Area!!!!! I live in Santa Monica and needed to find a hotel for my sisters while they were here. I decided to look on hotwire and found a 3 1/2 star hotel for $86 a night and decided to purchase it. It turned out to be the Four Points by Sheraton Santa Monica. I drive past this hotel everyday when heading down to Main St in Santa Monica but had never been there so I was a bit worried about the amenities and rooms, especially since it was only a 3 1/2 star hotel. We are used to 5 star hotels. The main lobby is very basic, but once you take the elevator up to the rooms and step into the hallway everything is very updated and reminded me a bit of the W hotel chains. Contmporary striped floors, and once in the room, whites, black, greys, blues and greens complemented the decor. The furnishings and beds were fabulous. Far above what I expected at this star rating and much better than many 4 star hotels I have been in. My sisters were even upgraded to an ocenview room with a large balcony which was great!!! This is a great location 4 blocks from the beach. The price we got was fantastic. Hotels such as the Viceroy are going for $300 a night and while the lobby is killer there, I found the rooms at the Sheraton to be equal to the standard rooms at the Viceroy. Most rooms for a 4 star hotel in the area go for anywhere from $170-500. One note: There was some work being done on the Jacuzzis and my sisters were not able to use them on the last 2 days of their trip. After speaking with the operations manager about this and mentioning it was my sisters birthday, we discovered a bottle of champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and a small cake had been delivered to the room. I have not even had things like this done when staying at a 5 star hotel. For all of these reasons, I give this $86 a night hotel a 5 star feedback rating. This was an incredible value. I highly recommend this hotel. (And I am P-I-C-K-Y!)

Good spot to explore from

Stayed here from 29/05/04 till 02/06/04, which was over the Memorial Day weekend.

Had a hire car so the free parking was great as it can be very expensive elsewhere. Also being set slightly out of Santa Monica and on Pico Boulevard made it easy getting to and from the freeways to explore.

Lobby staff seemed helpful and available whenever needed.

The room was spacious with 2 double beds and a small balcony. Room was quiet and away from the road. Food in the restaurant was ok although we only ate there on arrival as too tired and hungry to wander elsewhere.

Gym was small but well equipped and was never busy and although the pool and jacuzzi may have been on the small side, again they were more than sufficient and never too busy.

Location is about 10 mins walk from the beach and about 15 from 3rd street Prom, but whilst it may be a bit much with children, for us (32 + 31) it was no problem at all.

I'd definitely recommend it as although not as grand as say the Loews, it was just right if being used as a base to explore further.

Great hotel in Santa Monica!

Recently stayed at this hotel and I can tell you this is NOT your typical Four Points. The room decor is gorgeous and all newly done.
Staff was great and efficient and I really liked the food-not overpriced and very tasty!

A let down

IT WAS OUR FIRST TIME TO LA AND WOULD CERTAINLY NOT STAY HERE AGAIN.Recommended by our VIRGIN REP, we were told it had been recently refurbished and was one of the best. Arrived NewYears eve and was given a room on the mezzanine,it had certainly not been refurbished, noisy aircon, peeling wallpaper and a very stale smell. We were offered a deluxe room for extra 25dollars a night 3rd floor, but it was in the same condition and only the balcony was larger.Apparently the refurbishment is only the reception and the 9th to 7th floors which would have been an extra 30 dollars per night. No house keeping on one day, finally came with towels after a phone call and 5hour wait, the attitude of the staff was that they didnot really care. The area around the hotel is not pleasant with a lot of down and outs living in door ways,i certainly would not walk to and from the hotel with my children. I would return to Santa Monica but not the 4points even with its free parking.

Great Value

Stayed here in July 2003, and hoping to return next year. Rooms to expected standard. Staff friendly and efficient. A short drive to the beachfront and the free parking is a bonus. Pool area clean and well provisioned.

Not what I expected

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed in this hotel for 6 nights in August 03, while on course.

Was far below Sheraton standard, that i have expericenced in previous stays. Staff were great and food was above average..however room standrd left a lot to be desired....AC was loud and did not work correctly.......was booked into a room facing ocean...which it did...however was a ground floor facing a screen...not much of a view.

Overall was okay as I only slept their...however would take Family there.

Not for a peaceful stay!!!!!

Oh Dear, after staying in Santa Monica several years ago and loving it at the then Sheraton Miramar (which is now the Fairmont and way too expensive!) I did so want to like the Four Points on our visit last week. We were pleasantly surprised by the helpfulness of the staff, the size and cleanliness of the room and amenities (the position wasn't a problem as we regularly utilised the TIDE shuttle at 25c fare) but on the Saturday night we returned to our room to a horrific noise - apparently a function was being held on the 10th floor, we were on the 6th and thought that band practise was going ahead in the next room it was so loud! Despite complaining and requesting the volume be reduced 3 times - this awful racket went on until after midnight. So be warned that the management of the Four Points are willing to disregard any consideration of it's resident guests (and their children) who might actually need an early night, for the revenue brought in by functions.
It goes without saying that we will not be going there again!!!

Top Local Tips for Santa Monica

LA traffic Be forewarned: LA traffic is horrendous! get to Santa Monica (8 miles from LAX) and enjoy that area as it is wonderful. If you want to see LA, sign up for an LA Sightseeing tour as it is a great way to see the city without having to deal with the traffic. If you do have a rental car, take a drive up Pacific Coast Highway thru Malibu and onto Mulholland Drive. You need nerves of steel to drive there!

LA Tourists Stay out of the City and Hollywood and stay on the coast. Go on organised trips to Universal which is brilliant and an LA city tour as driving in LA is like nothing Ive ever seen. 13 million people and 12 million cars should say it all

Sight Seeing Tour I would recommend you use Los Angeles Sightseeing tours and do Tour 7 which does hollywood, movie homes, rodeo drive, downtown and Universal City walk. We booked this tour near a hostel on 2nd street. I think it was attached to the hostel. It says it is 3/4 day but it was whole day and by the end of the day all we managed to do in the evening was having dinner and few drinks as were so tired!! It cost $73 but is worth every cent!!
