Spacious, Clean...Loved the Doubletree!

from beachlova
We booked the Doubletree on Priceline for $120 per night which we felt was a definite bargain and made it easier for us to justify spending the ridiculous fee of $20 valet parking daily ($17 self-park). The rooms are really nice and clean and very spacious with a living area with a pull out sofa, refrig, bar,tv, desk and a seperate big bedroom and bathroom. 2 tv's, 3 phones, seperate dressing area outside the bathroom--very spacious. It really works well for families. The buffet breakfast was wonderful for only $13. The walk to the beach and pier is about 4 blocks. It really is not a bad walk. 3rd Street Promenade is 1 street over and about 3 blocks up. Once we saw Santa Monica and the other hotels nearby we liked the Doubletree better b/c it was away from the noise and traffic of PCH. Don't forget your yummy cookies that are included with your stay each day. We would absolutely stay here again...Have Fun!

great location

went LA with family and tried to stay in hollywood or beverly hills but these were full or too expensive. We were so glad we ended up here. While it is not cheap it is very nice and reasonable for the location. Beach, shopping , eating, and entertainment all within walking distance.

nice hotel, could be cheaper/closer to beach

the double tree was overall a nice hotel--i would like to mention the complimentary cookies at check in were very good--the room was fine and roomy, and the free wireless internet was great...the only thing was its a bit expensive(though not too bad for the area) at $269 for one night, and its also not as close to the beach/pier and third street promenade as other hotels...would definitely stay again though

I stayed here in November last year & to be honest it all went wrong from the beginning...I booked a non smoking room, but we were allocated a smoking room, which was awful...we changed rooms the next day & our room was relly nice. However, our luggage had gone missing fromn our outward journey & it arrived 2 days later, but the reception failed to inform me!!I waisted half a day at LA airport, to find out that my luggage had been with tee hotel the whole time. Terrible service! The compensation was a free breakfast. Wow!! I just felt they were very unprofessional. The pool is cold also, I would suggest that it isn't heated.

Functional and businesslike

I have stayed at this hotel seven or eight times always on business. The location is ideal for driving (right on the 10 freeway) and okay for walking into Santa Monica (takes about 10 minutes).

The hotel has that slight lack of character which is normal with hotels of this age in the USA. The staff are normally very friendly and easily recognise you after a few trips.

The suites are comforatble and spacious and I have had no problems with them at all. The Gym and pool are pleasant although swimming on top of the front door porch seems a little odd.

Don't expect great views unless you like freeways, but otherwise a trouble free unspectacular hotel. Recommended.

Nice Hotel with superb breakfast

from Nikon
Stayed for 10 days in February 2005. The rooms may need a renovation within a few years and yes there are Hotels closer to the 3rd Street and the Beach/Pier. But it takes only 5 minutes or so to the 3rd Street and 10 minutes or so to the Beach/Pier. The room had 2 TVs and was big enough for five (3 children), the breakfast buffet was superb and the staff was very friendly. I also really appreciated the wireless Internet connection. Would stay here again.

Would not stay here again

The room itself was spacious and clean (except for a few hairs in the bathroom). The view was horrible! I don't think I've ever had such a horrible view in a hotel (especially one that I was paying more than $250/night for). Our room was on the fourth floor and looked out onto a high school soccer field, a rooftop, and the expressway entrance ramp. The staff was rude at check in and the concierge was rude when we asked him to help us set up a studio tour for the next day. Also, it is a rather scary walk in the dark if you are coming back from the Third Street Promenade area in the evening. It's not as close as the hotel's website makes it out to be. We ended up checking out and spending our second night at the Georgian. For the same price we had ocean views from our suite, excellent customer service, and felt safe walking around at night. I definitely would only recommend staying at the Doubletree if you need to be close to the freeway or if you don't plan on walking anywhere at night.

Great Location, Spacious Suite

from RedRockIknowIt
Great Hotel in the midst of beautiful Santa Monica. This place is only a couple blocks from the 3rd street promenade and from the beach and pier. The staff was very friendly, the pool and jacuzzi were nice, our room was spacious and very clean, and you could see the ocean from the window. I would definitely reccomend this hotel.

Good Location

from Likeness
Recently stayed here for one night. This hotel is a short free shuttle ride to the Santa Monica Pier and a couple of blocks from the Promanade. Also close to Venice Beach. Rooms were nice, but I think they are overpriced. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Nice stay

Nice hotel with great suite for families. The walk to The Promenade at night was scary with quite a few homeless out and about. Would try something in a better neighborhood next time.

Top Local Tips for Santa Monica

Main Street Visit the Library Alehouse, dozens of beers, goood wine and reasonable food....

Rent a bike! Best way to see santa monica and venice is to rent a bike at the pier and go biking at the beach promenade!

Breakfast! There's a lovely deli on the corner on 3rd Street, opposite the Santa Monica Place shopping centre that does breakfast all day at a very reasonable price
