Avoid this place! I reserved a room a month in advance, and received a confirmation number. When I arrived at 4 pm, the manager explained that she had given my room away, because my credit card was refused. Even though the card worked fine, on the same day before and after she checked it, I understand that electronic glitches sometimes happen. What I do NOT understand is why they waited 30 days after confirming my reservation to check the card -- then were surprised that I was not at home when they called -- at checkin time! I was lucky to find a room in a fleabag far from the Boardwalk.
The manager told me that each Comfort Inn franchisee makes its own policies, so beware -- a confirmed reservation means NOTHING.

Top Local Tips for Santa Cruz

Locals like Riva There are lots of restaurants on the Santa Cruz Wharf. Some are overpriced, some serve seafood that is not that great. When locals go to the Wharf, they mostly eat at Riva Fish House, which features California cuisine--seafood and vegies in delectable sauces--plus the usual burgers and broiled fish, tasty deep fried fish and zucchini, well made alcoholic drinks and French roast coffee. And don't forget to leave room for some gelato for dessert. Warning--they do not take credit cards. However, there is an ATM pretty nearby on the Wharf. Oh, and did I mention the water view?

Las Palmas Taco Shack If you want a quick snack while on the boardwalk......forget about it...take a short walk to the Taco Shack on Front/Pacific streets. The food is fabulous. They offer a the regular fare of a mexican restaurant. Tacos/Burritos/Enchaladas/Rice/Beans. Everything is great and very reasonable. It's worth the walk and bit of a wait.
