Pizza My Heart Some of the best pizza you will ever have is at "Pizza My Heart". They have a deal for $5 or $6, depending on the shirt, where you get a free slice of pizza along with the shirt purchase. It also says "Santa Cruz" on the shirt. It makes a great souvenier.
Shadowbrook Resturant Make reservations ahead on their website. The food is somewhat pricey, but worth it. The resturant setting is beautiful and the food wonderful.
Beware dog owners! The city seems to have a great deal of tolerance for two-legged creatures no matter how eccentric, but look out creatures with four legs! Santa Cruz is one of the most dog-unfriendly cities I've ever visited. While traveling with my dog in the off season, I tried to take her for a walk around 10pm after a long day in the car. Although there were very few people around, we were still chased off the Boardwalk, the beach, and the Pier. I was okay with that though, since I'm used to the "No Dogs Allowed" rule around beaches. But then we were chased off the entire Downtown shopping area on Pacific Avenue! I can only assume that the city has had problems with the unleashed dogs of irresponsible humans, but it seems so harsh to me to have a complete 24hr a day ban of leashed dogs on the main street in town. It's sad that a few bad pet owners have ruined it for all, & that the city isn't willing to consider those of us who go out of our way to control our dogs & clean up after them.
