Top Local Tips for Santa Barbara

Free electric "trolley" -- State Street is a long street The city offers a trolley that runs about every 15 minutes up and down "lower State Street" and to many tourist attractions.... State Streer is a few miles long. There is no "bad" area, but if you want to be in walking distances to most attractions, stay near what the locals call "lower State Street". It is near the beaches, zoo, historical sites and pricier hotels and shopping of all kinds. (There are plenty of other things to see elsewhere, too). The county government center is like a working museum and botanical garden. It has a tower (free) where you can get a panoramic view of the whole area.

Some wonderful finds! We had two fabulous dinners while vacationing in Santa Barbara....one was a Mexican restaurant called "Carlitos" that featured an outdoor as well as inside option.....wonderful regional selections.....STRONG drinks and live music. The other great dinner option was "Cafe Argentina". A very interesting and authentic menu with romantic outdoor garden setting and live music.

Four Seasons Spa If you can afford to splurge a bit I highly recommend a massage at the Four Seasons! The spa is lovely with excellent guest service (whether you are a hotel guest or just a spa guest, the treatment is equally excellent) and beautiful facilities make this a must for relaxation.
