Worst Hotel Stay of my Life!

The water main broke and we had NO hot water and NO use of toilet for the whole stay(1 night). I asked for a refund several times but never got it.
Manager and front desk people were polite...but I still resent the whole business a lot and steer clear of Ramada Inns.

bang for a buck

from NYC999
This place was a servicable place to stay while visiting Santa Barbara. It's less than 10 minutes by car to downtown. $15 cab. There is an IHOP and In n Out across the street. You are not staying here for the pool, or the hot tub, etc. Its a clean place, yet pretty dated.

Yuck

from travelingjessica
I checked into this hotel and was given a room on the second floor. The are no elevators and so I lugged my bags upstairs and went to my room. I opened my door and someone was in "my room." They had given me a room that someone had not yet checked out of. I then lugged my stuff back downstairs and to the lobby to get another room. They gave me a key and back up the stairs I went. This key did not open my door. I had to lug my things back up and down the stairs two more times before i was actually in a room. Then when I was in the room, I wished I wasn't. The room is on the dingy side and the locks on my sliding door were broken. I would not stay at this hotel again.

Outstanding Service

from VegasTraveller1
I did not stay here but needed assistance for picking up a gift and deliverying to a guest of the hotel. I called the hotel and spoke with the guest services manager, Penny Fleming. She went to a store for me, paid for the gift with her own money, and delivered to the guest. My friend said the hotel was lovely and I have to say that the service is outstanding.

well done Ramada Inn, Santa Barbara

from StephenEngland
Large, comfortable room. free wifi, good selection at breakfast (continental) Attractive pool. Helpful staff. breakfast layout a little cramped but would recommend.

Walked Out

from tcamarato
We were supposed to stay there two nights. Our room smelt musty and the carpet was filthy / sticky. The air conditioner was falling apart and the bathroom counter top needed to be supported, falling down. Also the room was a smoking room but I can't blame them for that since my company booked the reservation and I wasn't asked if it was OK. When we asked at the front desk for some help, they basically told me to take it or leave it, not enough concern. I am a very tolerant person and can sleep on a rock if I have too. This is the first place I actually left in hopes to find a better place, risky in Santa Barbara. Won't even call this place again and won't let my friends stay there.

Worst experience ever. Never again.

I recently stayed at this motel based on the positve reviews I read here. Since I was booking 4 rooms for a family reunion (spent $2000) I wanted to make sure we had a good time. I had reservations/comfirmation numbers AND exact room numbers of the 4 rooms I booked. I didn't want to have the party split up or be forced to stay in the crappy rooms facing the parking lot (mountain view=parking lot) when we got there, they had given our rooms to other guests, and offered us 4 crappy rooms on the ground level all in seperate parts of the facility. The dumb girls at the front desk said "feel free to go to another hotel" and refused to help. Her manager, David, was absolutely useless and repeated the same. His manage, Jebediah, at least apologized but refused to do anything. The staff was insulting, the rooms were crappy to mediocre at best. 3 of the 4 rooms we used had mold and water damage near the floors. Funky smell. The hotel is located about 5 miles out of town and is desolate and inconvenient. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels/motels all across the US but this is the first time I was treated so badly that I felt I need to warn others. Should I also mention that the walls are paper thin ( I can hear EVERYTHING) and the staff is mainly college/highschool kids summer jobs and very 'impaired' managament who couldn't care less.
Avoid this place, 1 star dive motel, what a rip off.

Good Value

Having stayed at several "good value" motels in Santa Barbara, and not being very impressed, I tried the Ramada. It was clean and situated on very nice grounds. The breakfast facility was quite large. Much better value than "comparable" competitors.

The People Make the Difference

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have stayed at this motel numerous times over the past seven years because both of our children attended UCSB. It is convenient to the campus, very adequate, and easier to deal with staff than other motels in this area.

This time was special as we and our relatives had five rooms for my daughter's graduation celebration.

After dinner Saturday night, we were looking for a place to sit and vist. The Ramada Inn Manager, Penny, accomodated us by providing a perfect spot to congregate.

When we returned to let her know we were calling it a night, we discovered she and her staff had rescued my sister's family dog that had escaped from the car she was locked in.

They literally saved the day as the loss of "Lucy" would have ruined the evening and colored a wonderful event.

This is a case where the staff definitely made the difference and we are grateful.

Wonderful, caring personnel--took time to make our stay GREAT!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here 6-10-06 with lots of relatives to celebrate the college graduation of our niece. Two notable events impressed us about the staff:

1) After dinner in Santa Barbara, we wanted to sit and chat with about 15 relatives. Penny, the manager that evening, was extremely understanding of our needs and allowed our group to use one of the conference rooms for no extra charge as long as we didn't eat or drink anything and we put the chairs back as they were so that they could serve breakfast in that room the next morning. This is someone who could have been uptight and by-the-book--instead, she made our family reunion easy and pleasurable...and left us with a wonderful feeling about this Ramada.

2) When we came back to tell her we were finished using the room, we discovered that Penny and the other front desk personel had rescued a dog that had gotten out of one of the relative's cars. A dog that would have surely run into the street or run off. Not only did they rescue the dog--they fed her and made 25 phone calls to the number on her tag, the sheriff and animal control in an effort to find her owner! Our whole event would have been wrecked, had the dog disappeared or been hit by a car. Instead, it was kept safe by this extremely caring staff.

Our hats are off to this most wonderful group in Santa Barbara. We highly recommend this hotel--not only for the lovely grounds and comfortable rooms but for the kind and resourceful personnel. Bravo!

Could be better, could be worse

We were in Santa Barbara for a wedding, but could not afford to stay at the Bacara where the wedding was held, so we ended up here at the Ramada. It was a good price, which was the most important thing for us. It wasn't the best place ever, but pretty decent.

PROS
* Loved the breakfast. It included waffles, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, bagels, english muffins, coffee, juice, fruit, milk, and breakfast pastries.
* Great location. Right off the freeway. It was perfect for us because it was halfway between the Bacara and downtown.
*Friendly and helpful from desk staff.
*Free wireless internet in the rooms.

CONS
*The walls are pretty thin. We didn't get a good sleep our first night because we could hear everything - the people in the rooms on either side of us (they weren't being loud, just speaking in normal voices), people in the hall, people in the parking lot, plumbing, cars, etc. After that night we bought ourselves some earplugs and we were fine.
*The rooms are showing their age. It didn't bug me too much, but I can see that some others might be bothered by the "age spots" on the walls in the bathroom and the overall "retro" look of the rooms.

I would stay here again. I thought it was fine for what it was...just a place to stay. Don't go expecting luxury. :-)

Top Local Tips for Santa Barbara

Shopping We walked around State Street (downtown), and parking was best in the very inexpensive parking garages, underground, so your car stays cool, and there are lots of outdoor restaurants to eat and people-watch

For a great dinner If you are ready for a really great dinner go to Ruth Chris on La Cumbre, next to Macy's. It may be a little expensive, but worth it.

Sportfish on the Stardust If you like ocean fishing, you will love the Stardust
