The Oceana Hotel is beautifully located on prime beach area in Santa Barbara which probably accounts for their rates. The ambience is almost non-existent, the 'remodeling' of the rooms in faux Country French is half-hearted, with uncomfortable furniture (aside from the bed which was fine) and the housekeeping was less than pristine.

Great location, okay accommodations

Stayed here on a brief "family vacation" weekend. We liked the "cottage feel" of the hotel, and residential feel of neighborhood, but found the staff a bit snooty. Room was comfortable, not luxurious. The location is great, particularly its proximity to the local shuttle bus stops, the harbor and pier, and Little Sambo's original restaurant. Easy walk from the train station down neighborhood streets to the back of the hotel. Have recommended others stay there and they enjoyed it.

My stay at the Oceana was disappointing. We had to move rooms twice because of a booking mixup, and then were overcharged on our bill after the night manager had specifically quoted us a different price. The front hotel staff seemed not to know the ropes, perhaps they were in training. I had heard such good things about this hotel, and I will not try it again.
