Nice Stay at the Harbor View

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had an enjoyable stay at the Harbor View in Santa Barbara from Nov 23-26, 2003. Great location, nice grounds next to river, across from the beach/warf, with the "main drag" (State Street) just south of the hotel. Booked through Expedia for about $196.00 per night. Iladios, the Harbor View's restaurant, serves excellent food, but it'll cost you. We ate there the first night and considered it our one upscale dinner of the trip. Try 'Moby Dick' on the Warf for reasonable prices and great views or 'Sharkey's' on State Street if you don't mind a younger, college-like crowd...Their food is surprisingly good and not expensive...If you're patient and don't mind staying up late, they set up a stage and have bands play on certain nights...If you like Italian, walk up State Street and try 'Pascucci's'...The aromas emanating from that place will draw you in...Only reason didn't rate the Harbor View an 'excellent' is that we didn't have a refrigerator and the bathrooms do not have internal fans, (unless I just couldn't find where to turn it on)...Thus, your loved one(s) will pretty much hear everything you do in there. If you're a typical man like me who likes beer and doesn't want to pay $4.50 a bottle for a Heineken at Iladio's bar, walk up State Street (10 mins. or so)and past the tunnel on the left hand side is a corner liquor store where you can pick up a six pack for $6-7 bucks...(Tip: there's no ice maker on the third floor south wing - so go down to the second floor with the bucket and just use one of the small garbage cans with a liner from your room as an ice chest...Room service food was really good, but if you want breakfast, don't forget to fill out the request form in the room and hang it on your knob before midnight...Bon appetit & Bon voyage!!!

Very very very NICE!!!!

Was traveling to SB with my love and based on our extensive search of places to stay in SB, decided to stay at this lovely beachfront hotel.
We got a room facing the ocean on the second floor and it was very spacious and quite luxurious with all the amenities. The hotel front desk staff was very friendly and provided lots of good ideas about what we could do around town, particularly at night. The hotel is conveniently located near State Street, which has lots of night life activities. Overall we had a fabulous time and though the hotel was a bit pricey, overall very good experience for us lovers!!!

a great place

from meaveg
This is a wonderful little hotel right across from the beach and wharf.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and the pool and hot tub are beautiful. We went there to celebrate an anniversary and we were told there would be a bottle of champagne in the room on ice when we arrived. It was.......with a nice note saying....."Happy Birthday"! We got a good laugh. You can walk to State St. but it takes about 10 or 15 mins. depending on how fast you walk.
That was perfect with us since we indulged on a few desserts while we were there.

First off, the Harbor Inn is just amazing, there isn't anything about the hotel that isn't top notch!

The service is an A+

The Food is an A++

The room was incredible, beautiful ocean view, with a great sliding glass door in case the noise is too much for you (keeps out everything). The bathroom was all marble and lovely.

It's location couldn't be better for a visit to Santa Barbara, it's right at Cabrillo and State street, so you walk outside the lobby, catch the electric trolly, and go anywhere you want.

The pool is perfect for every age, from 1yr (mine is 2) up to elderly.

The grounds were spectacular, beautiful and well kept.

I think the best thing about the trip though was the food, absolutly out of this world, the room service is from a 5 * resturant, and the resturant is attached to the hotel.

As you will read on this site, other people have said the same thing, and thank God for this website, because it helped us choose a great place - The Harbor View Inn.

Oh, one last note, when I called to make reservations, they gave me 25% off the room rate, from 330 down to 265, another Plus!

Wonderful Stay

This hotel is truly 4 stars +. The rooms and grounds are beautiful and the location is fabulous. Very welcoming and friendly staff. We were upgraded (no cost) to a 2nd floor, pool and partial oceanview room with a large balcony. I'm sure any room at this hotel would not be disappointing. For a "standard room" at this hotel it is a little more costly, but for a great Santa Barbara visit, it's well worth it. You are at ocean front walking distance to both piers (sterns wharf and marina) and State St (shopping and restaurants galore) begins right at corner. To head further up State St without having to walk, you can take the $.25 trolley (a hop and a skip from hotel) that goes up State St through the main downtown area's. The Santa Barbara Pizza Co. on State St. for Italian was delicious. We went to Sambo's on Cabrillo for breakfast. The prices were reasonable, the portions were very big and the food was very good. No wonder they were so busy.

great getaway!

We have been to Santa Barbara many times. Unfortunately, you either pay throught the nose (and get very little i might ad) or pay very little (and get what you pay for....little!). Well, after reading the reviews for this hotel, we decided to give it a go. We could not have been happier with our choice. great location (everything within walking or shuttle distance), friendly and courteous service, and very family friendly as well. There appeared to be quite a few families that visit on a regular basis and this was encouraging. We will now be join their ranks. We have found our perfect weekend getaway spot!

Harbor View a Hit

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Harbor View Inn is located perfectly for beach lovers. The room was large and comfortable and overlooked the pool. We had a 2nd floor room with a small balcony and a fireplace. The topper was the excellent Eladio Restaurant at the hotel. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner there, and we couldn't have been more pleased.

Clean, friendly, and convenient

Stay Here! We had a great time at this hotel (for less money per night than other hotels in the area). It's great for both adults and kids.
Wonderful pool and patio area. It is clean and overlooking the beach, harbor and wharf across the street. Location, location, location. Our room was a spacious non-view room with a large balcony and large bathroom. Friendly and attentive staff complete the picture. Short walk to downtown and restaurants. You and your family will enjoy it here!

Very nice stay

Great location on the front in Santa Barbara, nice rooms and facilities. Had a very nice stay here. Restaurant - Eladio - had good food but lacked atmosphere.

Very nice

We have traveled and stayed at many, many hotels. Our weekday rate was $200 per night. Incredible value based on location and amenities.
Location: directly across the street from - Stearns Wharf, bike rentals, beach, bike path, 25 cent trolley (which runs east and west from the harbor to the zoo or north and south to downtown). Room amenities: granite bath, upgraded toiletries, large room, large swivel television with full cable incl. nick and disney, empty refrigerator, two sinks - one in dressing area with large closet, two terry robes, nice balcony, turn down service, morning newspaper, cozy comfortable bed, computerized air conditioning/heating, in room coffee maker with real coffee cups, glassware with ice bucket, bedside alarm clock radio, full room service. Property amenities: large towels poolside, main 7 ft pool and adjacent kids 1 1/2 foot pools, both heated, nice jacuzzi, beautiful surrounding grassy grounds with patios. Negatives: no poolside food or drink service, no real workout area per se - small room with 2 tvs, sparkletts water, hand towels, one treadmill, one stair stepper and one precor machine, no childrens "kids camp". Bottom line: It is a smaller hotel, definitely 4 stars, that is well worth the price for the location if nothing else. Incidentally, others have commented on Eladios, which is the adjoining restaurant. We found the food to be mediocre. Cross the street and go over to Stearns Wharf. Had dinner at the Harbor Restaurant. Incredible seafood. For breakfast, go west down cabrillo and eat at the original Sambos. At lunch time, take the trolley north into downtown. Would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Top Local Tips for Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara Courthouse It sounds like a ho-hum attraction ... but the free tour of the S.B. Courthouse was fabulous -- lovely art and architecture, very knowledgeable docent.

Santa Barbara Shuttle Bus Get free tokens from front desk staff to be used for riding the town shuttle. Parking in the prime shopping dining areas is a bear.

Great restaurants close by Here are some great restaurants reommendations: Brophy Brothers at the Harbor. Chad's on Chapala, The Fish Enterprise on State, Eladios is a great breakfast destination
