Very Quaint

We escaped from the children for a weekend and found this place by chance. I liked the reviews so I got the best quote from Orbitz ($159 for a junior suite). I liked the price but being the haggler that I am I decided to call the BB directly and see if they could do better. They were very gracious and gave me a $30 discount. We arrived to a very quaint place. It is a remodeled old motel with a palm tree in the middle of the parking lot/patio. But the rooms are just as cute as can be. I would recomend that you ask for a room away from the street . We stayed in room #1 and we heard people walking past our window all night long. It was OK with us because we just came from a house full of screaming kids so a few voices didn't bother us. But if you're sensitive to noises I would recommend the other 9 rooms instead. The loaner bikes are a great asset. They are brand new 3-speed beach cruisers that we took all over town. There are bike paths marked on most streets and there are a lot of other people riding their bikes. My wife and I decided that we would certainly be coming back to this place next year, same time, so don't book on my weekend!!! :-)

A very relaxing getaway

My wife, our seven-month old and I arrived in the early evening and immediately was charmed by the romantic christmassy setting displayed in the circular driveway. As I went to check-in the smell of banana-nut bread filled the air and the most charming clerk showed us the way to our most precious sweet little cottage style room. The night was a bit chilly and he immediately set the thermostat for us. In the room was a complimentary breakfast set filled with a large serving of granola, very tasty banana-nut bread and a variety of juices. Wifi was provided with excellent signal strength. The bed was most definitely the best part of our stay. Soft and comfortable and very clean. With the beach and ocean only a short block away the crisp ocean air was very refreshing in the morning. Because we slept in so late I was sure there would be no hot water available but to our surprise a wonderful morning bath was the cherry toping. I could probably go on writing forever but nothing is better than experiencing this wonderful room at such wonderful prices. We give this two thumbs up and the baby thumbs too. Thank you very much Harbor House for the wonderful stay.

Charming and great value!

Harbor House Inn was a great place to stay for a quick weekend retreat. The staff was welcoming and helpful, and the gift basket waiting for us on arrival was a nice touch (the banana bread is homemade and delicious!) The room was surprisingly well-stocked, with a full kitchen, living room area, and bedroom. They even have DVDs that you can borrow if you want to stay in for the night. Overall, we had a very nice time and would definitely recommend it highly.

We stayed in one of the new rooms not in the main court of this Hotel. The room was really well decorated, good size, with well equipped kitchen and good size bathroom. There is a good feeling of quality in the room, for example the sash windows look great and are of a quality you would never see in the UK. The location is great, near beach and also easy walk to restaurants(1/2 mile) and central shoppin area (1 mile). We stayed 3 nights adn it made a great place to stay. They also lend you bikes/beach furniture for free too. definately recommended.

We were walk ins, just have a look said the lady of the house, you will like it, and we did. Very good big high room with lots of light and heavy curtains to keep it out if you wanted. Very smart and clean kitchen. Had more of a private house feel than a motel. The free bikes for guests are great to get around on, no parking problems. Would go again.

Really enjoyed our 3 day stay.

Great play to get away from it all. One block to beach and about a10 minute stroll to the center of town. Good facilities for the price. Great breakfast basket included.

Very nice rooms + lovely breakfast country basket + free bikes + homey feeling + free WiFi + great location. I just stayed there last week for 2 nights. We were 5 of us (plus a small pet) in 2 rooms. We had a wonderful time. Me, my wife, our teenage son, our Shih-Tzu dog in one room. My in-laws in another room.

It is a very cozy, comfortable place that feels very private. We had 2 adjoining rooms - one deluxe queen suite that allows pets, and another larger room. The larger one had a separate sitting area/living room. Each room had a separate kitchen room. It really felt like your own private cottage. All rooms are on one level.

Kitchen was complete - stove, microwave, pots/pans, coffee maker, glasses/mugs, dishes, silverware, etc.

Car parking is just outside your door. I liked the patio area outside that I used to read the papers, have my coffee and enjoy the Santa Barbara great weather. I also loved free WiFi throughout the property. I used the free bicycles available that are the touring kind with fixed-wheel brakes. The location is excellent. It is very close to the beach (one block) and still off the main drag along the beach. I would stay there again anytime. We also met the staff who were very friendly and nice, when we needed anything. I spoke to the owner, who works very hard in maintaining the property. She said it used to be a small motel (years ago). It has been transformed into a country inn.

Overall, it was so great, I could actually live there. The high room rate ($215/$275+tax) was worth it. I will definitely return!

Lovely little place, great location

We just got back from a 5 day stay. We enjoyed having our own fully stocked kitchen - all utensils and appliances, the staff, (and owner), were very helpful and friendly, and the location was great - quiet, but close to everything. We could walk to the harbor and have Happy Hour looking out at the lights of the city, walk to Stearns Wharf and catch a boat, walk to in-town wineries for wine-tasting, and catch a shuttle or even walk to State Street for the shops and restaurants. Our very favorite part were the beach cruiser bicycles that are available to the guests, any time we wanted them. We bicycled up and down the 3 mile beach bike path every morning, and ended up at Ledbetter beach for some part of each day.

Great peaceful getaway at fair price.

I needed a quick Amtrak getaway from San Diego and found previous reviews for this INN.
This inn, with 10 rooms all entirely different, was just what I needed. It was hard to leave each morning to fit in my tourist visits since it was so comfortable, cosy and bright.

I had a Queen Studio, with a full kitchen for early season rate of $129. There was a "breakfast basket" on kitchen table at check-in heaped full of juices, fresh fruits, dried fruit, great granola, and the delicious banana bread mentioned earlier.
The bed was ULTRA comfy and other than a few yips from a dog (hotel is dog friendlly), I slept perfectly! The fresh potted orchid plant next to the bed probably helped.
There is a lovely brick courtyard where you park outside your door, and patio furniture to relax in. The ocean front is ONE block from the INN!

There is NO A/c, for Santa Barbara is temperate; however, there are huge ceiling fans in living AND b/room area. Furniture is all different; funky, but comfortable and everything one would need if they desired to use the kitchen, is there.
I checked the website before reserving and chose the room that would suit ME best! I'll return in the fall.

I just returned from a 3 night stay at the Harbor House Inn and it was a perfect place to stay. We were in room #2 and the basket of goodies on arrival were great. The banana nut bread was wonderful along with dried cranberries, granola, 3 juices and fruit. The bed was wonderful and the antiques added the perfect touch. It had a complete kitchen with everything you need including plenty of fresh coffee. The location is perfect - walking distance to State St., the wharf and the beach and it's on a very quiet street. I will definitely stay there again on my next trip to Santa Barbara.

Top Local Tips for Santa Barbara

Coronado Butterfly Preserve From November through March, thousands of monarch butterflies nest in a grove of eucalpytus trees just off of Ellwood Beach in Goleta. A trail head off of Coronado Drive leads to a very easy hike into the preserve. Look up in the trees to see branches heavy with thousands of butterflies. If it's warm, they'll flutter about in the trees, and if you're lucky you'll be able to spot some up close as they land on the ground. An absolutely magical place.

Great Restaurant for Breakfast Sambos Restaurant has the most delicious crabcake eggs benedict. Definately worth any wait.

Zoo is beautiful! We've seen many zoos around the world, and this one is the prettiest ever. Enjoy the scenery and setting in addition to the well-cared-for animals and friendly staff!
