Excellent Hotel Will Stay Here Again

Just spent the night. The room was great with a fireplace. The place was a pleasant suprise and the price was right. I will definitely stay here again.

I'm not usually one to write reviews but this definitely deserves my two cents. My wife and I booked Morgan's Mansion based on the great reviews here and with a wonderful promotional package we found online. We booked the Londonderry room w/ fireplace and we were not disappointed. The room was clean, good sized and the decor was beautiful! Tapestries on the walls and wooden beams along the ceiling was really classy. Bathroom was bigger than expected with 2 pedestal sinks and a large shower(all fixtures were Kohler). I must say that having stayed at some very decent hotels (Ritz-Carlton, Westin, Sofitel) this room was as good if not better IMHO. Breakfast was simple but sufficient. If you visit SLO, check it out!

HIdden Gem

I accidentally found this place when my regular hotel was full this week. It worked great for me. Big room, seemed pretty new, very quiet, good bed, big TV, nice staff, Starbuck's coffee. My room was squeaky clean. I don't tolerate smoke well and appreciated their 100% no smoking policy. Continental breakfast was pretty much what I would expect with some extras like coffeecake, fresh cinnamon bread, hard-boiled eggs, and yogurt. They even offered for me to take as much food as I needed. Will definitely return.

A Curates Egg

We have a saying in England where something "is like the Curate's egg.... good in parts" and this seems an apt description of Morgans Mansions. We had very mixed feelings about this hotel - the room itself was huge and for the price was excellently appointed. The bathroom and fittings were truly luxurious and the bedroom massive, and decorated to a very high specification. What disappointed was it's position - tucked away on a long stretch of very cheap looking hotels on a very busy road. it was a significantly long walk to the town centre. The person at reception seemed strangely detached and when we enquired about a trolley bus into town assured us there was one and pointed out the stop. What he failed to mention (and we discovered this after waiting about 30minutes by the stop) was that it only runs 2 days a week and not the day we were staying. The breakfast also was very disappointing, in a small ante-room off reception, you got a very minimal 'help yourself' selection of cereal and coffee. Having said that, there are nice touches - for instance you can borrow, free of charge, from a selection of DVDs to watch in your room. In summary - if you are just wanting a brief overnight stay and the location of the hotel doesn't matter... then it is fine and the rooms are lovely. But if location is important to you, I wouldn't recommend it for anyting other than an overnight stay.

This place is average. Rooms are big but nothing fancy. Price is on high side....whirlpool tub is overrated. We got hit with an extra 75 bucks three weeks later bc they claimed that we smoked. We didn't .... so now what?

Would not stay here again. suggest trying apple farm inn.

Delightfuly surprised

I am not usually a letter writer but I had to rave about Morgan's Mansions in San Luis Obispo, CA. We almost changed our reservation after reading one of your recent reviews...I'm sure glad we didn't. It was lovely, comfortable, and quiet. We loved the bathroom with travertine marble in the Londerberry mansion where we stayed. Our room seemed brand new, like a model home. We are baffled about the other guest's review. He difinitely didn't stay at this hotel. We looked at several other rooms in the other mansions for our next trip and loved them all. They were all very clean and well-maintained. We liked the Londonberry and will probnably stay in that mansion again.

Great hotel - interesting city

SLO is a great half way stop over between LA and San Fran. Hotel is in a great location and is a really clever new development, rather than fill the space with another motel, as the have on either side, there are three quite different houses.

Property feels brand new but is actually in its second year. We stayed in Plantation which was spotlessly clean and beautifully finished with high quality fittings, especially in the bath room. Room had a DVD player and plenty of movies at reception. Breakfast was OK but a bit limited.

We ate at Fandango's, a Basque restauarant that was the culinary highlight of a 3 week trip to CA. Truly fabulous food at good prices, good service, nice atmosphere. Shame we only stayed one night!

Our choice was Morgans or Apple Farm. We made the right choice as Apple Farm, whilst sounding on their website as though it is the middle of the rural idyll, is actually a routine loking motel on a highway intersection.

Take our advice. stay at Morgan Mansions and take dinner at Fandango.

A Unique Find . . . !

Tucked in the "hotel row" of Monterey Street, I noticed this property because of its unique character. I found the price to be very reasonable, the staff very friendly and helpful, the rooms spacious, very clean and comfortable, many have fireplaces. . . I especially liked having a refrigerator in the room and a dvd player to keep my child occupied. Although this property doesn't have a restaurant on its premises, there are a number of restaurants to choose from within walking distance, but the continental breakfast included with the room was enough for us. And. . . my dog was welcome too. It's a place I would recommend for any business or vacation travellers needing a place to stay in SLO.

A Surprising Delight !!!

I was driving down Monterey St. in San Luis Obisbo when I almost drove right past it but somethng made me stop. I was in San Francisco for a week on a business trip and really wanted a nice place to relax before heading home... I stepped foot into my room located in the Plantation Mansion and I absoultly fell in love with it !!! It was exactly what I needed a nice place to relax. It was quiet, elegant and still smelled new. I wasn't very impressed from the street but what a hidden treasure! The hotel is easy to miss but what a find !!! The staff is welcoming and made me feel right at home. My wife and I go back about once a month and would never stay anywhere else.

I recently stayed at Morgan's Mansions and very much enjoyed my stay. The rooms were tastefully decorated, spacious and very clean. The location was great. The staff was courteous and professional. The days I stayed at the hotel were very hot, but I was comfortable and cool all night long. I would highly recommend Morgan's Mansions to anyone speding time in the SLO area.

Top Local Tips for San Luis Obispo

Say No to Starbucks If you are looking for a nice relaxing night on the town, your first stop should your nearest local coffee shop. We stopped by two coffee shops in SLO while we were there, and both ended up being highlights. The first was in downtown SLO and featured a live, Norah Jones-ish musician playing in the back. The second coffee shop was an art gallery as well, and featured 2 rooms of paintings and other art. This coffee shop also featured live music, but not on the day we stopped by. Forget Starbucks, for relaxing and winding down ask some locals for a coffee shop reference.

San Luis Obispo Farmer's Market Be sure to stay overnight on a Thursday if you can. Several blocks of Higuera Street downtown are blocked off for a farmer's market. Abundance of fresh produce. Many restaurants have booths, so plan to eat dinner there while listening/watching the live entertainment.

Artisan Restaurant & Gardens of Avila Both are very good restaurants. The first in Paso Robles in the Downtown area and the second in the Avila Beach area near SLO. The Gardens restaurant doesn't charge a corkage fee for any local SLO Co. wine. Very classy indeed!
