Quaint, pretty, not too expensive

Not a large place, but there were flowers everywhere. The staff was excellent. One look at my cane and they immediately put me in a handicapped room at no extra charge. Parking was close and no problem. A couple of small shops to look around in. A beautiful horse drawn carriage (sans horse) in the entry.
The only negative for me was that the flower motif was extensive. Large flowers on the wallpaper, the 4 poster bed had flowered fittings, the bedspread was flowered, etc.
If you like that style, you'll like the Apple Farm.

Well appointed older motel/hotel situated conveniently in downtown. Rooms above average in comfort and furnishings and very quiet (despite proximity to the 'Main Drag' of town and the freeway). Restaurant and gift shop very convenient. Restaurant is reasonably priced with an excellent selection of foods. Gift shop highlights include jams and preserves from the local area. I will return again when the opportunity occurs.

Pretty nice hotel. Some rooms are close to/looking on the parking lot, so try to avoid those. Restaurant is very tasty, and it is close to a couple other good restaurants. Not really within walking distance of SLO's downtown. Room itself was fine--clean, quiet, but ours was a bit off in the climate control department. Lobby personnel were knowledgeable, and the lobby had treats in the afternoon (cookies, cider, tea). Basically a quaint ""country inn"" with the apple theme going through it, and a restaurant with very tasty food, but no pretentiousness. I don't have children, but it appeared very child friendly.

The Apple Farm, nestled in the hills of San Luis Obispo, reflects the quaint charm of this beautiful college town. The Apple Farm is centrally located on the main street and within walking distance of many restaurants and bars. The room was very nicely decorated and had a fireplace--but was a bit small. The grounds are really well-maintained and charming and the on-site restaurant has excellent food.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Apple Farm Inn Hotel

We just got back from the Apple Farm Inn today. I was a little taken back by the flowery decor but soon got over it. We spent our anniversary at the inn and we are very glad we did. This was the quietest hotel I have ever stayed in! The rooms were really comfortable and the grounds of the inn were immaculate. Not a great place to bring the kids as this place is more suited to the older adult. Really peaceful weekend and will go back!

Love the Apple Farm Inn

from Dtravel
This was our second stay at the Apple Farm Inn and we absolutely loved it! The rooms are large with a sitting area and fireplace, very clean. But it's all the small touches that set this hotel apart from all the others. In your room are bottles of sparkling apple cider and chocolates, this is replenished daily. The lobby always has hot tea, coffee, and hot apple cider. In the afternoon there is a complementary tea, which we missed. At night freshly baked cookies are set out in the lobby for guest. In the evening it wasn't unusual to see people in their white fluffy robes (provided by the hotel) headed to the lobby for their cookie fix. A very homey feel to this hotel. Forget the Madonna Inn, it's old and hokey.

If you go make sure to book a tour of Hearst castle, about 1/2 hour north. Our guide was Bill; he has been a tour guide at Hearst for 19 years, very well informed and quite humorous, I would be sure to request him in the future. There are 4 tours, next time we go we plan on staying the day and taking more then one tour, it was so interesting and grand.

For the adventurous type try ATV'ing (Quading), in Pismo Beach, 15 minutes south of Apple Farm.

Apple Charm

A wonderful hotel to visit, offers a great and fun gift shop, baked goods, homemade ice cream and apple cider! Just miles away from the town of SLO, Thursday night offers Farmers Market in downtown SLO, and weekends offers horse carriage rides! A wonderful, quiet getaway! In the evening they provide you with free fresh baked Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal and Peanut Butter cookies! Along with hot cider and or teas!

Pleasant Stay

from hotellooker
Just spent weekend in their Apple Farm Trellis-really a motel, next door to the Apple Tree Inn. The furniture was cute and we had a sofa bed for our grandson at no extra charge-he forgot his sleeping bag. They were very accommodating that way. The bathroom was very small with only a small shower, no tub. Housekeeping was good except that the sink drain smelled. There was very nice shampoo, lotion and soap. Ate several meals in the restaurant [average food] and the servers, mainly Cal Poly students?, were pleasant and efficient. The pool [small] and jacuzzi were well kept up. Very pretty flowers everywhere.

The apple of my eye!

After another phenominal stay at this darling SLO establishment, my husband and I felt compelled to express our positive comments to
The quality, attention and "at home" feeling you have while staying at the Apple Farm Inn should make one question why they may choose to ever stay anywhere else. Also, breakfast at the bakery is top notch! Take a dozen treats for the road!

Cozy and perfect!

from zeppgirl
I stayed here with my fiance recently and loved the place! It would have been fairly pricey, but I used my SLO discount card (contact San Luis Obispo and they will give you one for free!) to get 25 percent off of the room during the week. It came out to $125 for the night. The Inn was amazing! It was very cozy, just like a bed and breakfast, yet classy. We had a fireplace, some lounge chairs, and a great bathroom. The robes were plush, we got homebaked cookies in the evening, and a little wooden apple to take home. It was fun to check out the on-site store and restaurant as well. I will definitely come back!

what we liked about it....

from Elarbee
after driving up the coast from LA the apple farm was a perfect stop. i would suggest staying in the hotel part, the rooms are nicer.

we liked
> the quaintness of the hotel and gift shop
> the resturant ( kind of old but in a charming way ) the staff are very accomodating
> the service was down to earth and friendly
> the room was huge as was the bathroom
> the four post bed
> the fireplace
> the cable tv ( not that we watched much )
> the complimentary spreads
> the location, its the first one we saw off the highway

it is very old fashioned though. but thats part of the charm..

Almost too good to be true!

from IreneGlendora_Ca
We've stayed here several times over the past nine years and our most recent trip was the last weekend of March, 04. The Apple Farm Inn is amost "too good to be true" due to its CONSISTENCY of great service throughout the years. Each trip we've found the rooms spotless and the grounds well maintained. Also, the ENTIRE staff is ALWAYS kind & friendly This starts from the first phone call to reservations to the moment you check out! (i.e., the front desk staff, gift shop & restaurant employees - - I'm NOT KIDDING!! - - where do they find so many great people??!) The afternoon snacks on the terrace add a nice touch to start your stay at the Inn. We've stayed in several rooms - - each beautifully decorated with our favorite being the rooms overlooking the pool and old Mill. My husband and I find the Apple Farm Inn romantic, peaceful, and relaxing. A PERFECT getaway! (And I've stayed in hotels and inns across the USA, Europe and Asia).

Charming Apple Farm Inn

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband & I have been coming here since our honeymoon in 1976. The Apple Farm continues to impress us! Wonderful rooms, great food, and pleasant staff. Thank you for not changing!

Little Get Away

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband & I spent a few days at the Apple Farm to celebrate an anniversary. It was romantic, and we got a fairly good deal on Expedia.
However, if we were to ever go again, we would stay in the INN and not in the Trellis Court. Our Trellis Court room was cute, but very small.
I love the ambiance of the place, and we really enjoyed our breakfast in bed. We did not get a basket of goodies (like I've read in other reviews) - possibly b/c we were not staying in the Inn? We did however, recieve an anniversary card and a small candle (which has an amazing scent), so it's worth it to call ahead with any special occasion notice. The girl at the front desk called us by name (Mr so & so) everytime she saw us which was very impressive. The horse carriage ride is no longer available, so that was a little dissapointing. Overall we had a nice trip and would return in the future.

Top Local Tips for San Luis Obispo

Hearst Castle What a fun tour! We loved the Castle, and it's surroundings!

Downtown SLO is great - a fun place to visit The stores close early - so start early.

Take advantage of the Trolly There is a trolly that picks up virtually right in front of this property and takes you into downtown (about a mile) and back to the hotel. It costs 25 cents per person.
