Most luxurious hotel in San Jose

from chipboy07
This is by far the most upscale hotel in downtown San Jose. If your'e staying there, BE SURE TO REQUEST THE NEWER TOWER (I think that it's the South Tower) as the rooms are far more modern. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the hotel from having drinks at the hotel lobby lounge to dining outside by the pool. Contrary to other reviews, the customer service that I received was top knotch and the director of business travel bent over backwards to ensure that I enjoyed the Fairmont experience. If you're traveling to the San Jose area and enjoy luxury accomodations, I highly recommend the Fairmont San Jose.

Warning to all: dont stay here

from A TripAdvisor Member
My friend and I wanted to stay for just one night, to use as a trial run to see if we would stay the rest of the 2 weeks we were in town. First night went great, no problems. So we made our reservations for 2 more weeks. We showed up for the start of our 2 weeks, and right when we got in the door, the hell started. Upon our check in, the front desk lady was extremely rude. We were staying under the government rate, which requires government id. Keep in mind we had already stayed here for one night, and didnt have any problem at all. Previosly, I had checked in with just showing my police badge, and had no problem at all. This time, after showing my badge, my drivers license, and my work id, I was still hasseled for more id. She didnt believe I was a government employee. After FINALLY showing her enough documents, we are standing there waiting, when she looks at us and says "oh i guess i should give you your keys". After that, I said thank you, and all she did was nod. She should be saying thank you, not me. Then on the way to the elevator, a bellhop jumped in front of us and took the first elevator! We had our hands full, and the bellhop pushes right past us! When we finally get to our room, we were shocked to discover body hair in our bathroom, our minibar was empty (the fridge was completely off), there were no cups, and our calls to the front desk went unanswered.

After we called their 800 number, we were transferred to the hotel manager, who was extremely rude.

This was an awful experience. Please dont even give this hotel a chance to do what they did to me, to you.

Made my business trip a pleasure

from Pullman1
A palatial hotel in the small but exciting renewal area of downtown San Jose. The public spaces and the rooms are simply beautiful, and the amenities include a spectacular outdoor pool spacious enough to belong in a resort. One can walk to downtown offices, and also to theaters, two fine museums, and at least half a dozen first-rate restaurants. By contrast, the restaurants in the hotel, which impressed me on earlier trips, have become no better than average. Service was slow on two occasions, and the food was only OK. Service elsewhere in the hotel was helpful and generous-spirited. Room service breakfast took a while to come, but was delicious and a terrific value. My only real frustration was that the air conditioning in our room wasn't strong enough to keep the room comfortable in the afternoon heat. Overall, a great place to combine business with pleasure.

My Wedding Reception was there fair detail please read

from TiffanyHonestandFair
OK - I have read through the details of the Fairmont and I have to say that they do make mistakes, but anyone who says that the personell does not care about the mistakes is entirely wrong.

As indicated in the title I had my wedding reception there. I had 30 rooms reserved and MANY details that needed to be taken care of by the Fairmont staff. The bell service is FLAWLESS at least it was for the 5 suit cases, 2 big boxes, and the several small boxes they took to my room - not to mention the SEVERAL runs I made them do to get my flowers in and out of my room so my Aunt could do my flowers, oh that's right I forgot about my wedding dress and 4 brides-maids dresses. Seriously, not one single complaint regarding the bell service or the valet service.

Rooms - there are two different types of rooms at the Fairmont. The older rooms I will agree can use a bit of work, but they are not by any stretch of the imagination offensive. The newer rooms are in the "tower" they are excellent. The standard rooms are good size w/ beautiful bathrooms, and very comfy beds. The Suites are very good size around 900 feet if I recall correctly w/ a very nice vanity to do make-up. My favorite was that there were TWO tempurature controls one in the bedroom the other in the living room. Actually they did not work at first, but a quick call down to maintanence at 12:30 a.m. if I recall correctly and it was fixed immediately - very important if your wedding dress weighs fifty pounds becasue of the 15 foot train. As far as people's complaints regarding not having coffee or things of this nature well, look at the ammenaties and you will see that it is not one of them.

Lobby etc. is beautiful - if I could publish my picures I would they turned out gorgeous and were taken on the property and the park directly across the street.

Reception - was wonderful more complements about the food than I can possibly say. We did have a problem w/ the cake disappearing, and some people not getting any, but the catering department is being very cooperative with us in fixing this error. There was also a guest who asked for another steak becasue her's was tough and apparently was told "no" completely unacceptable. Immediately upon learning this fact the entire bill for this guest was credited to our bill.

Like I said before - mistakes were made, and there were more than I mentioned, but they were all addressed and corrected. Basically, if you expect perfection don't stay, but IF you relize the property is run by humans, then you will have a wonderful time.

Luxury in Silicon Valley

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just came back from a wedding at this hotel and not only was the wedding spectacular, but so was the hotel and the food. I booked my room through their 800 number (they were very helpful) and secured a room in the wedding block. I was pleasantly surprised at the rate for what I had heard was the only luxury hotel in San Jose. When I arrived a cheerful bellman helped me with my bags and escorted me to the reception area. The lobby is breathtaking! Great for hanging out and having a drink and great for taking photos too. They even have a sushi bar in the lobby. The front desk agents were quite welcoming and very charming. I was very pleased with my room. Not only was it clean and spacious (you've got to see the bathroom), it was decorated beautifully too. The bed was so comfortable and cozy. I need to call and ask where they get those sheets! I had the best night sleep I've had in quite some time. I would highly recommend this hotel. Though I didn't have a chance to use the pool the view of it from my window was spectacular. I almost forgot I was in a big city. I will be letting my friends and family know to be sure to stay here whenever they are in town for business or pleasure. There are some great bars and restaurants in the area also that make this a great place for a weekend get a way. It is difinetly worth the extra few dollars to stay here. A+ accomodations, amenities, service and location.

Fairmont San Jose - home away from home

I am a seasoned traveler and I always love to stay at the Fairmont San Jose. I have been going there for years and they have never let me down.
They go above and beyond the call of duty to provide exceptional customer service. It's my home away from home.

Gem in the Heart of Silicon Valley

I have stayed in many of San Jose's downtown hotels and have found many of the them to be sub-standard. The Hilton and the Crown Plaza are cinderblock towers better suited for Peoria then San Jose. The Hyatt is just about to crumble into dust and the new Marriott has rooms the size of matchboxes.

Only at the Fairmont will you find every room spacious, the amenities first rate and a staff capable enough to handle any task.

This is a hotel the would rival any in the country. We are fortunate to have it in San Jose.

Truly a Luxury Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
I recently stayed at the Fairmont for my cousin's wedding. I have never been to San Jose before so I had no idea what to expect. I was breath-taken from the moment I drove up to the hotel. The doormen were friendly and very helpful. The lobby is gorgeous with marble floors and a fabulous lounge that makes you feel like you are sitting in your own living room. The agent at the front desk was warm and welcoming.

I had a room in their new tower, and all I can say is "Wow!". The rooms was oversized and had all the extras I would expect from a luxury hotel (bathrobes, slippers, CD Player, etc). I didn't want to leave my room!

I am very surprised by the previous reviews, they don't sound at all like the hotel I stayed at. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in San Jose. Everything I experienced was worth way more than what I paid, an absolute deal!

Welcome, but go away

Stayed at the Fairmont during a youth conference. The hotel is beautiful. The rooms were also very beautiful. The hotel lobby has a nice sunken lounge area. Unfortunately, they had it roped off (except in the early morning so you could buy their sweet rolls) the entire time. There was a bar in this area, but observing those that were allowed to partake in the comfortable seating, the hotel was NOT making any money from having their bar opened. Our toilet did not work, and no one ever came. Finally, over an hour later I tried to flush it and it worked. I called housekeeping and told them to never mind. They also ran out of blankets and comforters. They locked the elevators in the mornings (due to the youth conference) and did not have any notice attached on the floors. Each elevator was assigned only four floors. When I attempted to go down to the lobby the first morning, the elevator did not come to my floor. I walked two floors down and encountered the same thing. I went back to my room and called the front desk. They had no idea why the elevator did not work. I then went back to the elevator and eventually one came to my floor. They had notices attached in the elevators and in the main lobby. They also had a welcome sign posted on the convenience cupboard. The cupboard contained an intimacy packet (condoms), liquor, soda and fruit juice. Uh, condoms for a youth conference!!! . This is my 6th year as an adult counselor at the youth conference, and I have never had a hotel treat it's guests like this. I think they were trying to be efficient, but they were definitely not welcoming. I also think the hotel had good intentions of keeping things in their control, but their lack of communication and lack of customer service did not work in the end. Two great places to eat: Pizza Chicago and Sonoma Chicken Coop.

beautiful rooms, attractive location

from Corgimom
I stayed at the Fairmont in early November. The hotel is beautiful and elegant. We were the only ones checking in and had no problem. My room was gorgeous - very large, nice view of the park. Loved the vanity with makeup mirror, the marble shower, and the robe. The bed was comfy and had plenty of pillows - I love that. The only problem was how large the room was - I accidentally walked into the closet in the middle of the night, thinking it was the toilet alcove :). I also had some problems getting the TV turned on, but that may have just been a fluke.
Fairly expensive at $159 per night, but certainly not excessive. The Fountains cafe was good albeit pricy ($42 for breakfast for two). The OJ and pancakes were to die for. We had lunch at an Italian restaurant one block away and it was just as expensive ($60 for lunch).
We held a banquet in the Regency Ballroom and service was exceptional. Parking is expensive but everything in downtown San Jose is. Trolley stops right outside door, so public transportation is available. The hotel faces a town square park and they were setting up for Christmas already, with fake snow, a train and a skating rink. It must be beautiful for Xmas.
