functional and inexpensive

We needed a basic hotel in the Presidio area of San Francisco and this one did the job without any problems. The location was great for the event we were attending nearby and for hiking in the Presidio park. Nothing fancy but everything worked. The parking lot is small and one night it was full when we returned. The location is a little tricky to find if you don't know the area - we missed the turn the first time and almost ended up crossing the Golden Gate bridge by accident. There are some good but expensive French bistros nearby and a very good, reasonably priced breakfast/lunch place called the Home Plate a few blocks away.

Top Local Tips for San Francisco
Liverpool Lil's Wonderful restaurant on Lyon Street by the Presidio. Great atmosphere and great food.
Bay trip Right off the wharf there are several private boats that will take you on a bay ride under the Golden gate bridge and around Alcatraz with narration for only 10.00. There was one of the more expensive tour boats that went the same way we did and they charge almost twice as much. The crew on the boat were fun and they allow you to bring on drinks and snacks which again will save you some money as there is a walgreens close by. Get alcatraz tickets ahead of time.
