from A TripAdvisor MemberVery Good But . . .
from DrewInLAIt's a good, well-run hotel, but with a few mild negatives.
Good, helpful staff always, but so young. What happened to old, genteel hotel staff?!
The two "large" beds we asked for turned out to be full size, not king or queen, so the two kids felt a little cramped. The room was very clean, the bathroom nice, but had a sliding door to fit the room. Closet had bathrobes, ironing board, iron, even an umbrella. Computer ports, big TV, all the usual.
Our view was of the back of other buildings and office windows. In other words, no view. Our rate was about $180 but with city hotel tax, etc. we paid over $200 for each of three nights in early July. Parking for our rental car was $45 a day! Next time I'll find a nearby garage. St Mary's Garage only two blocks up California St. might be cheaper.
There's only one restaurant in the hotel. Breakfasts were very nice, service attentive, but expensive. Fortunately, when we reserved and asked about their best rates the hotel gave us six free breakfast vouchers so one-and-a-half day's breakfasts were free. That saved quite a bit. Dinners would have been very expensive and were the meat and potatoes type, so we ate elsewhere.
The lobby is very nice--marble, artwork, some chairs, etc., but not a good place to lounge like the Fairmont or other great old hotels.
One caution is that this hotel is in the Financial District. This is not Union Square or other hotel areas. At night and on weekends it's pretty empty, no restaurants nearby, and coffee shops and delis only cater to the business crowd so they close very early (4:00 is typical). But Chinatown is only two uphill blocks away so that's nice. Summer in SF is very windy and chilly, so we battled winds every day. Take a windbreaker for sure.
I'd stay at the Omni again for $200 or less. At higher rates, I'd expect a bigger room, a coffee shop, pool, more central location.

from A TripAdvisor MemberLocation is great if you're doing business in the Financial District. However, if you are visiting for fun, this neighborhood is b-o-r-i-n-g, especially on the weekends.
Be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for any services within the hotel (food, drinks, room service, etc. - all very very expensive!).
the best service
from A TripAdvisor MemberOverrated !
from A TripAdvisor MemberDo not eat or drink at the hotel though as it is rip-off. 2 Jack Daniels at the bar cost $21 !, an orange juice with breakfast costs $5 !., I guess they expect most guests to be on expenses and as such not care too much.
All in all OK for the money $150 a night, but nothing special.
Beautiful hotel with great staff

from A TripAdvisor MemberThe Omni was a great choice!
from donnakatWhat a wonderful place to stay
from Vegasdebut007We were taken from the superbly decorated entrance hall to our good sized room by a young man who was informative and keen to share his city with visitors.
The room was modern, well eqipped and absolutely pristine. The fittings were brand new and care has been taken to maintain such good order.
We took the MUNI pass which gives unlimited travel on the cable cars busse etc and saw all the sites except for Alcatraz - we hadn't booked.
In summing up we would recommend this OMNI to anyone. Remember to join the OMNI club before you travel. The OMNI is excellent value for money because of the location, keen polite staff, lovely modern pristine room, and the general attention to detail.
Fantastic in all respects!

City Tour We took a city bus tour (picked up downtown) and would definitely recommend this if your trip is somewhat short just to see more of the city. Shopping is Great downtown.
Tours Take a tour recommended by the hotel staff. We picked one that sounded - great 2 day on-off bus. But, we only got on twice, After the 3rd "off", the buse broke down and wouldn't return for 1 hour. I don't recall the company name, but have read of a similar plight by others.
Chinese New Year Parade One of the Worlds greatest parades and yet very very easy to attend. You can get access to the route online months before the New Year. The earlier you position yourself on the route, the quicker the parade, the easier to have a clear view and the fresher the performers. Lots of families with small children will choose the first few blocks,so be aware that your view might be impeded by standing children or there very rude parents. Our children 10 & 17 found the little kids a bit annoying. We had a dinner reservation for 8 pm and sat through 2 hours of the parade on the 3rd block. To avoid traffic, there is BART or try booking a hotel in the city. This was our choice and for the price we had a wonderful weekend.
