I lived here for almost six months while I was a student at San Francisco State. The place was great...definitely a cut above most of the Tenderloin SRO hotels. It was clean, comfortable, fairly secure and fairly well appointed. I would recommend it especially for anyone considering a lengthy stay in the city.
 

Top Local Tips for San Francisco

The Italian District I think from memory it's called Mission Beach but you can tell when you are there because there are the colours of the Italian flag on the lamp posts - a really nice area and if you keep walking down hill you end up at Pier 39. Lovely resturants etc, a really big sweet shop selling many flavours of unusal things like salt water taffy.

Powell Hotel Great place to stay: 2 blocks from Union Square, easy to get to and from, small coffee shop in the lobby (independently operated).
