The holiday Inn Express & Suites in San Francisco offers a very comfortable, quiet room for a very reasonable price. It is in a very handy location for sightseeing and for coordinating work. I enjoyed my stay very much and can only recommend it to other travelers.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Holiday Inn Express and Suites Fishermans Wharf Hotel

Great Location!!!!!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We booked and arrived within 24 hours as our holiday to Miami was cancelled due to hurricane Frances. A superb hotel in a great location. The staff are friendly, the rooms are a good size and everything is clean and modern. We have looked at some of the more expensive hotels around and would not wish to be anywhere else. The free internet access is great as you can checkout places that you want to visit and keep in touch with home. Haven't made the gym yet, but have been in the pool at the Holiday Inn next door. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

t know what people were complaining about?

from CliveGerrard
having read previous reviews of the hotel, I entered with some trepidation. However, the hotel was clean, I asked for a quiet room and got a large room at the back of the hotel. The staff on the desk (particluarly Joseph) were extremely helpful. Breakfast was okay (pity there was no ham to go with the eggs, though).
Its got a great location one block from the cable car terminus, and a short walk to Fisherman's Wharf. I've stayed in a lot worse hotels in the USA than this one, believe me! I'd recommend this hotel to anyone! Great Value!

wonderful stay

from LexxiChicago
We just returned from a fabulous 6 day trip to San Francisco. The Holiday Inn Express was very accommodating...I booked through the internet and they gave us a king bed but we needed two double...when we arrived they immediately gave us a double bed room. The hotel is very clean and close to everything...put on your walking shoes! My two kids who are in college even said the hotel was fine and that the continental breakfast was good...FREE.. (It helped on our budget so we could splurge on lunch and dinners) Went on several tours that were reasonable..if you go to Alcatraz..get the tickets with the audio included..very helpful when walking around the prison...Bring a light jacket for it was chilly...I would recommend the Holiday Inn Express to anyone for it was a very pleasant stay. The staff was great and helpful....

loved it

Very good hotel, great location just a couple of blocks from Fishermans Wharf and the cable cars.

The rooms were very clean and modern, and it's probably the best continental breakfast that I have had. Also made good use of the free internet that they provide on the lobby, this is easy to miss as it's tucjed away round the corner.

Very enjoyable, brilliant location.

Good hotel; one housekeeping issue

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had 1 housekeeping issue when we stayed there. I'm sure it's an exception and not the norm. The bedding had a funky smell on it. We called housekeeping of course and requested a change of bedding. No one came and we had to make a second call. I guess it was after housekeeping hrs and help wasn't readily avilable but someone did come and change the bedding. One gentlemen, however, had a pretty strong body odor that lingered after he left. The bedding was fine but now the room area had an odor. We went to nearby Walgreens to get a can of lysol. TIP: Bring can of lysol whenever you travel.Okay, on to the positives: 1. Free continental breakfast--get there early 2. Great location--you can eat a cafe next door, go to the bar across the street, walk around the corner to Denny's, or even to Fisherman's Wharf; close access to bus to take you to Union Square, etc. 3. Great priceWE DEFINITELY WOULD STAY THERE AGAIN! HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO OTHERS!

t expect service at the holiday inn

from Leedslass
Holiday started off badly when our flight had to return to Heathrow mid flight due to mechanical problems. Flight was delayed for 24 hours. We had pre-booked and pre-paid for a family room at the Holiday Inn Express Fishermans Wharf. We arrived 24 hours late expecting to be able to use the room we had paid for from the previous night. It was 1pm, the receptionist bluntly told us check in was 3pm. We joked we were not early but late as we were supposed to check in the day before but our flight was delayed. She was serious, she repeated check in was 3pm and she did not know if a room was ready for us. We said but surely it should be ready we were supposed to be here yesterday and we paid for the room for last night. That means nothing she said, and by the way you were checked into a king room, with only one bed, and I don't think we have any larger rooms. Her attitude was one of total apathy, she didn't seem to care or realise she was ruining our holiday. My husband said angrily well can you please check if you have got a room available. She went into a room behind reception, when she returned she said she did have a family room. We were allowed to check in and use the room we had paid for, we paid a full night and got to use it for 1 and a half hours. Within a few minutes of getting to our room she knocked on the door with a gift of a free movie and two packets of ghiradelli chocolates, but the damage was done and i would not recommend this hotel. The breakfast was very good though and the location to Fishermans Wharf is excellent.

good value for a modern hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Great location, new modern clean room.
I got a good deal through the Inter-continental sites Nov. 2003. Great for a few nites in SF.
Great breakfast w the rate.

t confuse it with the Holiday Inn just down the street.

from MARKLakeWorth_Fl
Clean and well proportioned rooms with excellent location near Fisherman's Wharf. Had a nice stay and would definitely return.

I think the negative reviews are both from people who confused the Holiday Inn Express with the Holiday Inn just a block or so away, and were mad that they couldn't get help with their luggage to go over to the other place. I did the same thing myself and admit that it is a bit confusing but in fairness they are seperate hotels with seperate ownership. Fortunately I had a rental car to throw my luggage into for the short little drive to the correct hotel. Just be wary which one you have reservations with.

Love, love, loved it!!!!

I have to say: I have never in my whole life spend a vacation in such a wonderful hotel. Every thing was better than good -even the bed was better than my own!!! YOU HAVE TO TRY IT!!!!

Excellent hotel

from laurmarm
My family and I just returned from a vacation in San Francisco. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at Fisherman's Wharf. We loved it! Convenient location-tour buses and bike rentals were right around the corner, and a rental car company across the street. The hotel was clean and completely quiet. We had an inside room. The morning complimentary breakfast was excellent. It was the same each of our three mornings, but there was plenty of variety. There was also plenty of seating for everyone so you didn't feel crowded. The clerks at the front desk were friendly and helpful. I also spotted a security guard walking the halls which made me feel safe. Rooms were of normal hotel size. Each room also contained a free safe. The only things that we would have liked were if they had had queen beds and access to a microwave. I definately would stay here again. Great value!

Top Local Tips for San Francisco

Night Time Alcatraz Take the evening trip to Alcatraz prison with National Parks Service. Don't bother with trying to book it cheaper anywhere else. Great to see the prison at night - really makes for a more atmospheric trip

The real San Francisco Get away from the really touristy bits of San Francisco, discover Yerba Beuna Gardens, Levi Plaza etc Take a walk down some residential streets and get to know the locals, you'll be glad you did.

Fog & Smog can interfere with photos Fog and smog can block views of the bay, golden gate bridge etc. If you have a clear day take pictures, as you may not have a clear day for the rest of your trip. Out of the eight days we were here only the first day was clear and picture perfect. Sea Lions smell similiar to skunk.
