Great Place, Even better location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at The Tuscan Inn at Fisherman's Wharf over New Years weekend and had a fabulous time. You are just 2 blocks from the main street through Fisherman's Wharf and you wouldn't want to be any closer with the noise. Take previous reviewer's advice and ask for a Garden Room.Everyone was incredibly nice. Especially the housekeeping staff. You walk down the hall to the elevator and they stop what their doing to say Good Morning and make sure everything is to your liking. What a great place!!

Loved it

Stayed 9 nights at the Tuscan Inn in November 2003. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was small, but very comfortable. The hotel and our room were kept spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the extra amenities such as newspaper, morning coffee & cocoa & biscotti and the evening wine receptions. We will likely try to stay at this hotel next time we come to San Francisco.

Nice Property

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Tuscan Inn for 3 nights. The property was neat and clean and only 2 blocks from the Warf where all the action is. It was a very convenient location to Pier 39 and the trolley cars. The rooms were a little smaller than what I was use to but I believe that is common in San Francisco. Everyone is invited for the evening wine reception which is 1 hour long. During that time there is a very nice and knowledgable gentlemen who offers free chair massages. There are only x-amount of slots so be sure to sign up early before all spots are gone. (He gets there about 4:45pm) One of my only complaints about the property was the conceirge. Since we are tourists we had to ask him a few questions on how to get around. He wasn't very clear when he explained directions. Since we were exploring a very large city we asked if there were some areas to avoid for safety purposes. He asked where we were from and then proceeded to tell us that cops get shot there too. What kind of answer is that? We are trying to protect ourselves from any bad places and we get an idiotic answer like that. I'm sorry but we are tourists needing information, if you don't like people asking you all these questions maybe you shouldn't be performing that job anymore. The greatest help came from a very lovely desk clerk who did a great job with getting us where we needed. We asked her how to get back to the airport without having to pay the shuttle service $15 each. She suggested the bus and sub system. Then she went out of her way and pulled up the routes and planned it all out for us. Told us where we had to leave from and what time to be there. She even printed us out a schedule. I have never been on any public transportation before so I was a little nervous doing this. I felt completely safe and would not hesitate doing it again. The residents of the city were very nice and helpful. It was raining one day and we were walking out of a restaurant. There was a very nice gentleman who had a large umbrella and shared it with me. I thought that was an extremely kind gesture from a stranger.

Lovely, Lovely, Lovely

My sister and I just got back from spending two nights at The Tuscan and let me tell you, the first time was great, but the 2nd time was even better. The room was a little small for the two of us but the decor and the bed made up for it. The bed was very comfortable. We stayed in room 442. The hotel is very convenient for the trolley, bus line and a few blocks from Fisherman's Wharf. In the morning they serve in the lobby area, delightful biscotti's, coffee and tea and since it was Thansgiving, they also had a spread of pastries which normally they do not have but probably since it was a holiday they did something special. The front desk staff were more than helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone!

Stayed here many times. It's location is fantastic if you want to get to the Ballpark, to the cable car, on and off the freeway, to the wharf, etc. Nice, comfy feel. Folks here remember your name if you're a returning guest. And value is key for the rooms and the service!

Good place to stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
Room was a little small but nice. Faced the courtyard. Wine reception in lobby was good. Parking was only $10 with AAA rate. Very good location. Was not noisy. But when you stay in a big city noise is a part of it. Just ignore the homeless people. Good place to stay for the price. Clean. Staff was helpful.

Been there many times

We visit San Francisco about 4 times a year and always stay at the Tuscan Inn. The rooms are sometimes small, but when you're in San Francisco, you don't spend much time in it. The service is always great and the rooms very clean. Stayed in a few other hotels, but nothing compares for the price and the convenience of being close to everything.

Nothing special

from A TripAdvisor Member
While the Tuscan Inn is a perfectly fine place to stay on the Wharf, it's nothing special. Our room was extremely small, overlooking the courtyard ("courtyard" is a bit of a stretch - it's a very tiny area with a few potted plants and trees). The television was tiny and ancient. The staff was very aggressive about checking the honor bar regularly, and even incorrectly charged us for using it (this was reversed, but aggravating!). They do not sell 3-day Muni passes at the desk as stated in the hotel literature provided in the room. The concierge seemed to never be around. Hotel parking (valet-only) is now $23 a night. We stayed in the Radisson on the Wharf (just across the street) a few months ago and had a much better experience (larger room, better parking, gracious staff, helpful concierge) for about the same cost.

This was a GREAT hotel!

My husband and I stayed at the Best Western Tuscan Inn at Fisherman's Wharf for 3 nights in August and loved it so much that we booked for an additional 2 nights on our way back through San Francisco. We took the advice of the people who had submitted reviews on this site and we did ask for a courtyard room. We received this category of room both times and were very happy with the fact that we did not hear any street noise at all! Every evening from 5:00 - 6:00 they have complimentary wine and beer in their lobby by the fireplace. It really is a great atmosphere.
The hotel is close to Fisherman's Wharf and the cable car lines. We were also able to walk to North Beach (a must do) as well as Lombard Street. The staff is wonderful to deal with and very helpful if you need directions or advice. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

s very comfy

This place fits the bill. Am sorry for those few noisey rooms that some folks got saddled with. NorthPoint mall [small] is right acroos the street with a Safeway store full of goodies. And the hotel is quite close to the Wharf with all of the tour boats and sea food restaraunts. The cable car is a block and a half away so this makes China town a snap. The Italian restaraunt in the hotel is very good. The complimentary beer & wine every evening is a great amenity. The rooms are very clean and very well appointed. Be sure to ask for a quiet room so that some other poor bastard gets one of those! All in all I love this place. I strongly recommend the Tuscan Inn. Be sure to go see Muir Woods while you're there also. Jesus loves you and so do I. Oh, and ride the cool renovated trolley cars all around the city also as you really can smell the city this way !

Top Local Tips for San Francisco

Lots to do & see Ride the Cable-cars! Get a day ticket for all transport, use the streetcars, too. You can get to and from the airport on the BART, and its quite cheap, but do get a city map so you know where you are! We got off when it was dark, and found ourselves at a 5-way intersection with little idea of which way to go to our hotel. Inspiration and friendly San Franciscans got us there - it was quite a hike. If you want to go to Alcatraz: 1. Book the ferry trip rather than just turn up, & 2. Give yourself at LEAST half a day to do it. Coit Tower gives a panoramic view, and there's one 'bus that goes up to it. Otherwise, prepare for a stiff uphill walk. Two days isn't really long enough for this city.

Hotel Shuttle The hotel shuttle is easily found from the arrivals lounge at the airport. You just find a minibus outside, and share with others (about 8 in total) and it costs £15 dollars each for a trip. Takes about 30-40 minutes.
