Historical Traveller Reviews of Best Western Grosvenor Hotel
Breakfast was excellent - hot & cold, full range. Rooms comfortable. They have a restaurant downstairs although menu is quite limited. Otherwise there is McDonalds across the road. There is a good restaurant about 300 yards up the road on the same side (The Hungry Hunter - great steaks). Good stay.
We stayed here for 2 nights on our way to LA. The hotel is definitely one of the better hotels I have stayed in. They run a shuttle bus from the Airport which is frequent and free (except of course you have to tip like everywhere in the States). The lobby is very small which was a bit of a drawback as there were so many people there with luggage all the time. The staff were friendly and efficient. The rooms were a little on the small side but were very clean and modern. The food at the Brass Elephant Restaurant was excellent and the pool was good. There was a bus service into San Francisco right across the road. Overall, a good stay for a stopover.
An excellent airport hotel
This is an excellent airport hotel, smooth check in and helpful friendly reception staff. There is a free shuttle bus from the hotel to the airport so we were able to take our car back to the airport the night before and just take the bus into the airport with no handing over hassle to the rental car company early in the morning. We had a large room which was well decorated and up on the 11th floor (I think) so we had no noise from the road. There was free internet access for guests in a room off the lobby and the breakfast choice was very good. We would definitely stay here again for the airport.
Good central location to see area
Very comfortable room..Bath a bit smaller than others but clean! Had 2 rooms booked through the hotel's site..best rate available. Had a great deluxe continental breakfast..Easy access to highway and to the city...Stayed 2 nights and travelled to Monterey one day and back and the next to San Jose back to change and off to Muir Woods..good central location..Pool water was a bit too cool for my kids.

I was very impressed with the Grosvenor Hotel. The front desk staff was Awesome!!! Very helpful and friendly. The free breakfast was great with a pretty good selection of items. I would definatly stay there again.
Could Be Better
We stayed here for two nights over New Years Eve. We had been driving for 30-some hours already and was so ready to get to our hotel already after driving through all that rain and flooding. When we got to the hotel the personel at the front desk could have been a little more organized and friendly. When we got to our room I noticed right away alot of black hairs in the bathroom. Don't they sweep them up? All we heard all night was wind noise which was VERY loud. When we woke up in the morning the floor by the window was all wet from all the rain. And yes the window was shut. The rooms were a nice size. Clean(except all the hair all over the floor). EXCELLENT continental breakfast. I have never seen that much food at a continental breakfast before, it was very good. In general the hotel was okay, however, I don't know if we would ever stay there again.
t Stay There Again
We spent the nights of 10/22/05 & 10/23/05 at the BW Grosvenor. The front desk staff could use some training on how to welcome guests with a SMILE; this is very important to us. We arrived at 10am after a 5 hour flight and had to use the public restroom facilities on the ground floor to change into casual clothes. A horrible mess had been left in the ladies room and I had to LEAVE and have my husband stand outside the men's room while I changed in there! Our room was quite spacious, but they had a cheap, 'faux' leather chair at the desk which did not even fit in with the room decor AND you had to move it to get from the bed to the window! Our bathroom wallpaper was COVERED with coffee stains; the sink had cigarette burns (it was a non-smoking room) and had been patched previously; the tub was a joke! I had to stoop to rinse my face in the shower (I am only 5'6") and the tub had no bath mat or 'strips' to help prevent falling; I used a hand towel to stand on!
The plus side: Excellent mattress and pillows; lots of t.v. stations with good reception and more than adequate DELUXE complimentary breakfast with plenty of seating room. We had a 9th flr. room with a view of the bay, so weren't bothered by the Hwy 101 noise.
Because of the rudeness of the desk staff and tiny bathrooms (dirty also), we don't care to return.
Great hotel, but noise is an issue
Overall, the hotel was great. The room was clean, and there was a good selection at the complementary breakfast. Free wireless internet access was nice as well. Biggest issue was noise; I was on the freeway side of the building, and while I didn't have any issues with highway noise, I could still hear jets taking off.
Quality and convenience
Stayed at this hotel twice, once after a long-haul flight and once the night before. At 1.5 miles from SFO and the hire car return centre, its location was what sold me. I also found the rooms to be very clean and comfortable. The staff were among the most helpful I've dealt with in my many hotel stays.
Convenient location, Comfortable hotel
We stayed for one night upon arrival in San Francisco. The hotel is conveniently located and there is a free hotel shuttle to/from the airport. The hotel has many rooms and at the third attempt we found the one that we really liked. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel has been renovated and was in good shape. We had a nice meal in the restaurant that evening and the buffet breakfast next day was excellent. We only had one issue, when we requested transport to the city, the receptionist advised us that a taxi or town-car would be the same price of $45 for the 15-minute trip. We took the town-car and later found out that this was simply not true. Other people only paid $35 for a taxi, so we were ripped off. On departure we took an airport shuttle from our city hotel to the airport for only $14 per person. So, if you want to avoid high costs, it's better to take the free hotel shuttle to the airport and then use an airport shuttle to the city. If you're not in a hurry, it doesn't take very much longer. As for the hotel, yes, we were satisfied and would stay there again.

San Francisco Fine Arts Museum - Legion of Honor
The building and location alone will take your breath away. The art in the permanent collection is world class and will take at least a day to view. Plan on having a wonderful lunch at the museum cafe.

Bring warm clothes
It is chilly (or maybe downright COLD) at night in San Francisco and the extreme winds make it feel even colder. We were there July 5-8 and expected it to be warm, we had to buy jackets, then the next day bought a sweater for underneath the jacket. On the streets even in the daytime, most people were wearing jackets or sweaters/sweatshirts. The shops along fisherman's wharf do a brisk business in sweatshirts and polar fleece. On the boat trip out on the bay, many people were huddled under blankets. Being cold is totally miserable, bring warm clothes and especially warm footwear. I hated having to spend money on these things when I have a closet full of them at home.
