Top Local Tips for San Francisco

City Pass can be a great deal If you purchase a City Pass, it will get you unlimited public transportation for 7 days on the MUNI buses, Cable Cars, and streetcars. For kids it costs $39, adults $54. One ride on a cable car would've cost us $5. We used the City Pass for Alcatraz, Exploratorium, and Aquarium which saved us $13-15 for each kid. Plus, we didn't use other admissions included in the City Pass which include The DeYoung, Legion of Honor, SF Museum of Modern Art, Asian Art Museum or California Academy of Sciences & Steinhart Aquarium, and Boudin Bakery & Museum tour. The City Pass was a great deal for us, and I would recommend it if you plan on going taking public transportation and visiting a few of these attractions. We bought ours through Alcatraz tours before arriving which allowed us to book our Alcatraz tour as well.

Handicapped parking in San Francisco It appeared to us that San Francisco doesn't have designated handicapped parking, in general. However, if we displayed our disabled placard, we never got a ticket--even when parking right in front of the Alcatraz cruise ferry departure site.

1-day Passport for getting around. Many visitors want a ride on SF's famous cable cars. One ride will cost you $5. But buying the 1-day passport for $11 allows you unlimited rides on the cable cars, buses and trams. This is an easy way to get around the city. Bus service 39 that should take you to Telegraph Hill/Coit Tower was a real pain. There are 2 different loops and a turnaround, so make sure you're on the right one. Ask the driver once you board. Buses are rather infrequent during the day, only one every 20mins. And it feels like a long wait in the cold winter!
