This is in regards to the wonderful time that I had while in the city of San Francisco. Wow, what a great time I had. The hotel and the price that I paid was amamzing. The folks there at the Alexander were courtious, amd hospitable. The location was super and I couldn't be happier about my saty there. I have recommended this hotel to all my friends!
Don't waste your money on this hotel

I stayed 4 nights at the Alexander Inn in San Francisco after having made reservations on hotels.com and paying in full in advance (had I not paid in full already, I most certainly would have sought better accommodations). Alexander Inn fell far short in two of the main areas I consider to be the most important about a hotel: bedding and towels. The sheets were obviously well-used, and the mattress was extremely old, uncomfortable, not suitably covered (thin mattress pad that wasn't even fitted), and noticeably stained. The towels were thin, noticeably used, and smelled of some disinfectant or cleaner. The pillows which were old and uncomfortable only had one pillow case on them, and I wondered how dirty/old these were as well.
Other than the room, the hotel as a whole was obviously in need of major renovation. I will note a few of the things I noticed. I avoided the elevator on most occasions, preferring taking the steps to my 5th floor room to riding that creaky elevator which seemed to me ready to break down at any moment (not to mention the inspection date on the elevator was expired!). The carpet in the main lobby had been replaced (and generally, this area was updated - I suppose to try to lure guests to the hotel), but the carpet in the rest of the hotel was old and quite worn in places. The stairs (which I frequented fairly often) were creaky, and the ceiling tiles were missing in places. There was a sort of smoke smell in the air. Apparently, this hotel used to be a Super8, since my room telephone stilled bore this label. As a whole, other than the main lobby, the hotel felt somewhat dingy and second-rate, and I certainly don't think it was worth the price I paid.
Before I leave you with a completely negative review, I will say that front desk service was pretty decent, and that the breakfast scrambled eggs were pretty tasty. I hope this review helps you in making a decision about a hotel in SF.
