Horrible Sense of Customer Service

Was OK until I left it. I had a problem with the reservation charge and two weeks after I still have not got my money back... I have been more that responsible providing all the necessary information, but is something like politics... You chose them already... who matters what happens next. The communication between the hotel and me has not be the one that I am sure Sheraton owners are expecting from them.

Besides, it is a very noisy hotel, have to walk far to get something to eat, so you better rent a car. Do not forget to carry your own towel to the "fitness center" and a glass for the water... They sometimes forget to set it up...

The only thing I truly liked was the restauran and it variety menu.

Good luck...

I won't state the specifics, but if any professional businessperson wants to do anything in San Diego, please stay away from this place. The sales rep is very uneducated and didn't know her job. This Kayla girl was very disrespectful how she kept going back and forth with the prices, bottom line, they try to swindle you, untrustworthy!

Fairly average with some biggish snags

from nosescott
My girlfriend and I just came back from the Sheraton after going to SD with her son. We're avid travelers and use tripadvisor when going to a new city or to try a new property. She was in SD a week prior to our trip for business so she stayed there to give it a test run. She came back and gave it an OK. Her son wouldn't appreciate the W or any design heavy hotel so we opted for a reasonably priced property so we could spend more on kid stuff. Here's where it gets dicey. On her trip, we booked online and she went off without my card. Not only did they let her check in without the card (or even the same last name), they charged my card at check-out. Not only did she not sign a bill but her name isn't the same as mine. I had a long conversation with the GM and he assured us this was a one time mess up. Fine. Off we go a week later. When we arrived we noticed no valet. No biggie but in today's hotel environment, isn't that standard? Once in we checked in and were given a corner suite on the top floor. We assumed we'd get some type of room upgrade from the GM after the card issue (and some SPG points). Once up in the suite (we normally stay in suites and my GFs 8yo son has grown used to them now), we were happyish. Nice 18 foot ceilings, big living room and entertainment area and a fairly large bedroom. The corner wrap-around balcony was nice and the kid loved it. The room quality, however, really needs some work. The carpet was older and worn and needed some cleaning (or simply replaced), the walls needed some paint touch-ups and the 8-place table in the dining room was pretty well worn. Not a great showing for a suite with a wrap-around balcony. We were genuinely a bit let down at how poor of shape the room was. The next day, when we came back from being tourists, the gargbage pails weren't empty and there was still our trash (clearly read, day-old papers and half eaten rib bones) sitting there. OK, sometimes housekeeping slips up and fails to grab something on the way out. The next day, same thing. Beer bottles left on the table, the hide-a-bed wasn't made or cushions put back. It was like housekeeping only made our bed and replaced towels. I was very unhappy with a second day of screw ups so I went down stairs to complain. The front desk comped us breakfast as well as all the 8yo's video game playing (about $50 worth of games). While I didn't go down to get comps, after all, they gave us a suite for under $170, I wanted them to know there were serious service issues. Now, some comps are great but we really wouldn't go back since they seemed to have some major screw up with the credit card and then the cleaning issue. The Sheraton beds are to die for andf that's why we ultimately chose this property. My suggestion: get a standard room, work the desk for a lower rate and be happy with a pretty average hotel stay with a great bed.

Pretty Good Hotel--Great staff!

We recently returned from a stay at this hotel on June 24th for our 1st Wedding Anniversary. When we arrived at hotel to check-in around 7 pm to room booked with Starwood points (Gold Member), we were given a handicapped room on 8th floor. We were initally disappointed being gold members that we could not get a room on the Club Floor. Apparently there was a wedding there that weekend and all the out of town guests had just come in. We took the room on the 8th floor and immediately noticed a noise that sounded like a rollercoaster....couldn't figure it out initally and then realized it was the elevator! Needless to say, we had a pretty unrestful first night. I DON'T recommend getting a room close to the elevators! The next morning, we requested to be moved and were moved to the 12th floor (club floor) with a balcony room facing the highway. The rest of the stay was great. Didn't really notice the noise from the highway. Staff were friendly and very helpful. We were given a credit of Starwood points for the first night, breakfast at Andre's, and free parking, so the staff was very accommodating and made up for the first night. Would definitely stay here again. The location was centrally located to all areas of San Diego.

Think Again!

Stayed 06/24-06/26/05 2 nights. Waited over 30 minutes to check in. Was asked to "step aside" as they tried to find a room for us. Apparently, they were booked solid AND the computers were down! I had booked and paid on-line through the Sheraton website two weeks in advance! Front desk supervisor assisted us and said I booked a smoking room, which I did NOT and put us in one anyway! Said if we booked on line next time, to make sure I follow up with a phone call to the hotel and state that I want a "non-smoking" room. Very disappointed. It was my birthday weekend get away and I had to sleep in a horrible smelling room and I have asthma and bad allergies. Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep! Anyhow, after complaining about the cigarette smell the next morning, we were finally moved to a non-smoking room. No comps on room for inconvenience. This place needs to review their service satisfaction policy. Other than the service, the room was nice and food from room service very good.

Good value, location. Accepts large dogs too!

Received great weekend rate at this hotel--$150 total for a deluxe room with AAA membership. Staff was friendly and helpful. The deluxe rooms are large and include a balcony and sofa. The sweet sleeper bed was fantastic--we just wanted to lay in bed all day! The hotel is also great if you have a large dog to bring along. They didn't even charge us the $25 pet fee. All in all, a great place to stay--especially if you want to bring your pet.

Great Stay

My husband, 3 year old, 1 year old and I stayed at the Sheraton. We drove in from L.A. and had a long day at the zoo so we were pretty tired when we checked in around 8 p.m. I booked the room through Hotwire for $95 and it was well worth it. The lobby staff was friendly and helpful. We were on the 11th floor facing the grassy hill and we had no problems with noise. The room was well appointed, spacious, and the bed was truly comfortable. The location of the hotel is great with lots of restaurants and shopping all within a short drive's away. We'll definitely stay here again.

Had good stay at Sheraton Mission Valley

from Chatty_catty
Our family just returned from a week at the Sheraton Mission Valley. Hotel seems to cater to business people, tour groups and airline employees, but the staff was friendly throughout our stay.

Rooms were clean and comfortable and were good sized (we had two queen beds in our room and still had room to walk around without bumping into one another). Enjoyed the Sheraton Sweet Sleeper beds, quite comfy. The commode, sink and shower over tub were all in one room (not like some hotels where the sink is outside of the bathroom).

Hotel has washer and dryers for those who wish to do laundry and a small fitness center and outdoor pool. There are ice machines, but they aren't on each and every floor. Had dinner in the restaurant one night. Service and food are good. Has early bird specials if you like having dinner btw 5-7PM.

Hotel is located next to the I-8 freeway, but the noise from the freeway is not really noticable. Made it easy to get to destinations while in San Diego. Nothing ever felt like it was more than 10-15 minutes away from the hotel. Also, across the freeway is a huge mall (in case you may have forgotten to bring things on your trip). One gripe we have is that the mall keeps the parking lot lights on all night long. Nice bright lights which would stream into our room. Not too much of an issue if you sleep facing the door of your room... =) BTW, the odd numbered rooms face the freeway. The even numbered rooms face a grass covered hill behind the hotel.

Overall, would stay here again.

Great value for a nice hotel

from heythisisnate
I just got back from this hotel -- I stayed three nights using Starwood Points over the Memorial day weekend.

There is a $7 per day parking. They waive this charge for Starwood Platinums. I'm still at the Gold level, so I was stuck with the charge. Can't complain too much though -- I didn't pay anything for the room!

This was my first time to San Diego, I went with my girlfriend to spend some time relaxing at the beach and exploring a new city. There was a wedding going on this weeekend, and all the Club level rooms were apparantly booked up, so unfourtunately I was not upgraded. But, the non-smoking king room on the 8th floor was pretty nice for Sheraton standards. The furniture is very modern and the beds are quite comfortable. The regular rooms don't have balconies, only the club level rooms. My room did face the highway, but noise wasn't much of a problem. I slept fine.

If you do have a car, the location is great for accessing both downtown and the beaches. Coming from Atlanta, I was surprised at how close everything is in San Diego! It was never more than a 5 or 10 minute drive to anywhere we wanted to go. There's also a large shopping mall with a Target and AMC theaters right across the highway from the hotel, which was convenient.

The concierge was an older woman who was very friendly and helpful. She gave us a sheet with directions to all the major attractions and areas to and from the hotel.

Overall, I had a great time in San Diego, and the Sheraton Mission Valley was more than adequate. I would stay here again. You can't beat the value for only 3,000 points per weekend night.

Typical business hotel

Hotel was clean and had all the usual facilities, the staff were helpful after my luggage was lost. Hotel was tainted by the constant news of the freeway that was 200yds from my window.

Good hotel

Very good hotel to stay in. We were there from April 18th to the 21st. We had two Queen beds; very comfortable with the Sheraton sleeper beds. The hotel is right across from several shopping malls, which has numerous restaurants to choose from, although the hotel does have it's own restaurant. The hotel has several free shuttles that can take you either to the airport, or to Sea World & the San Diego Zoo.
Our advise: - we initially got the 2nd floor...I don't recommend that. Why? The window view is the outside balcony where the maintenance can walk around. We asked for a different floor & was lucky enough to be moved to the 10th floor, with the view of the highway & the shopping malls. This is better than the other side, where all you see is a hill behind the hotel. The shuttles are free, but the downside is that you are on their schedule & of course the expected tipping of the driver. There were three of us, so we decided to rent a car (Enterprise is just a 2 minute walk away)...about $25 & we got a car for a day, plus the freedom to go where we wanted & when we wanted. The hotel does charge for parking though...I think it was $8 per day. We were able to have that waived, as I had a San Diego tourist magazine (from the San Diego tourist bureau) that had listed as one of the benefits...free parking - they honored that. We used the shuttle just for the airport. The staff was generally helpful, but they need to smile more, and look like they want to help you, rather than seemed irked that you are interrupting them; even the shift manager. There was a filipino man who worked the later night shift - he was very helpful & smiled all the time. The others should take after him. For driving around, they do have an excellent list of popular tourist places to go to, and explicit driving instructions on how to get there. Overall, if I went to San Diego again, I would still definitely stay at this hotel, as long as it's not on the 2nd floor. This is a very good 3 star hotel.

Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Beds Great!

Nice clean, modern, great beds. What I have come to expect of Starwood properties. The elevators are somewhat slow, but overall the hotel is above par. Great location across from mall.

Top Local Tips for San Diego

Best brunch deal in town For the best brunch deal in town, try Gringo's mimosa brunch, located in Pacific Beach. There was live music, free-flowing mimosas, and the best Mexican + American breakfast buffet I've ever had.

very easy to get around in San Diego - the highway system is great there and everything is in fairly close proximity. We stayed about 5 miles from the ocean and were there via highway in literally 5 minutes most any time of the day.

Sea World If you go to San Diego - you have to hit Sea World - I believe it's the best place in town.
