Historical Traveller Reviews of Paradise Point Resort and Spa Hotel

We loved our stay here!!

from annd78
I was a little skeptical after reading some mixed reviews of this hotel, but from the moment my sister and I arrived in our room we really enjoyed our stay! Would say that the only annoying thing was that we learned that check-in BEGAN at 4pm, which according to the staff doesn't neccessarily mean that your room will be ready at 4. I've never heard that before!! Anyways, we wound up driving around for an hour (our first trip down to Mission Beach, so really not a waste of time), before we were able to go into the room. But check-out was really easy, and all-in-all it was a very pleasant experience. The room was clean and the the surroundings were beautiful! We didn't want to leave!! Of course part of that was because San Diego is just a beautiful city, but we'd definetly stay at this resort again!!

A two hour stay

We chose Paradise Point because it looked amazing in the Virgin brochure and decided that this would be a great place to spend 10 nights on our honeymoon. How wrong could we be! Granted the location is gorgeous and the staff (with whom we dealings) were very friendly but the room we had assigned to us was appalling. As soon as the bell boy opened the door the stench of damp hit us full on. We then clocked the grubby, worn furnishings and thick cobwebs on the lampshades and the mould all round the bathroom was a sight to see. To top it all we then met our room buddies - the ants!! It was so bad (standard room) that we decided we weren't going to stay whatever the cost and checked out within an hour (no upgrades available). We then enjoyed a great holiday at another hotel further round the bay. To sum it up - great surroundings, friendly staff but extremely poor standard accommodation.
If you enjoy comfort avoid!!!

Not Worth The Money

In September 2001, my husband and I took a trip to San Diego and decided to stay at Paradise Point. We got a great deal on the room of only $99 a night due to the fact we were walk-ins. The scenery was beautiful and our garden room was bright and clean. Since our first trip went so well, we decided to celebrate our second year anniversary (June 2003) at the same resort but this time with an ocean front room.
We reserved our room months in advance and we thought we were getting another great deal because we were only paying $298 a night on a $408 room. We were absolutely ecstatic about our trip, especially since we were also celebrating our first real vacation with our 10 month old son. We drove up and the scenery was still beautiful, we got to our room and when we unlocked it...It was disgusting! The room had a stench to it. The bed didn't smell clean, the couch was covered in filth, and (worst of all) the bathroom smelt like urine. I even sent my husband out to buy a plug-in to evade the smell cause I was ready to leave.
Even my husband was grossed out and that just doesn't happen because he's a fireman and he sees much more worse things than just dirty hotel rooms. Anyway, we don't think we'll be going back ever again. The rooms are very overpriced and they are not worth the money....Neither is the restaurant. Can you imagine paying $11 for a hamburger. Well, we did only to have a view of the bay. Please take our advice...DON'T STAY THERE! You might regret it.

Very, very Bad!

This place was so horrible! You'll see why when I explain.... I decided to take my baby boy, mom, and two younger brothers to Sea World for the very first time so I started researching for hotels on the internet and found this one. In the pictures, the scenery and rooms looked very nice but I was fooled!. As soon as I saw our room I was very dissapointed. It was extremely small with 2 queen size beds. I ordered a crib for my baby but it looked all moldy and smelly. Thank god I didn't put my baby in there! The bathroom smelled like a sewer and it was small as well. There was a wet spot on the rug and I was afraid of lettiing my baby crawl as well so we had to keep him on the bed or hold him at all times. This made him really fussy and couldnt sleep. We were also very thirsty from the long drive and ordered some sodas but it took them like 45 mins to bring them and the guy wanted a tip??? I dont think so! I tried to get sodas before from a soda machine but it didnt work! The bill was like $17 for the 3 sodas we ordered, RIDICULOUS!!! The room was so small that we couldn't even move around in there without bumping into each other. I have stayed at cheap motels that look way nicer and cleaner than this! After about 2 hours there, we were all depressed and wanted to go back home. So I just said lets go because I certainly wasn't going to sleep there! So we packed up all our things and left home, which was a 3 hour drive again. We didnt have anymore money to go another hotel and we never got to see Sea World. That broke my heart because the kids were so looking forward to that but were too dissapointed because of their first hotel experience. The next day I wrote to Paradise through e-mail explaining how they ruined our vacation and they refunded our money. That was the only good part about this hotel, they knew they were dirty.

we will return

We had done quite a bit of looking around on the internet and finally decided on Paradise Point. The grounds looked so pretty and the rooms had some character. Although, after reading some reviews on here I was pretty leary of spending a week there not knowing quite what we were getting into. As it turned out, we had a great time. The grounds were gorgeous, great pool area, comfortable and clean rooms, just an all around fun place to stay. We will definately be returning!!

Had a Great time.

My wife and I both enjoyed the tropical layout, easy going style, friendly employees at the resort. Very nice grounds, nice room and view. The Baleen dining was excellent. Great service and food. Only problem was the bed. It was hard and tilted but livible. Peacefull, serene and quite. Would go back again.

Are we talking about the same place ?

I was a little apprehensive because of the extremely mixed reviews, but our fears were allayed when we arrived last month. The staff were very helpful and courteous ( without being over the top ) and our room was delightful - clean, spacious and lovely views across the water. The grounds were charming and the Barefoot afforded decent ( albeit unexciting ) food and drink. The bottom line ?. We'd go back.

As we parked outside the lobby a bell boy said welcome to paradise, and I believed him. This is a strange place in that the grounds/gardens and pools look lovely, but the rooms are a disappointment. We had an executive suite which was truly awful. The adjoining suite was seperated by a screen that could be pulled back to form a huge room. Our neighbours shouted at each other and their children constantly, we could hear every word. Reception were no help. We arrived back after two days to find our key didnt work, they decided to offer us a compulsory upgrade as they needed our room for a convention. Our new bungalow was nice, but the move was managed clumsily by the hotel,

Yikes! The Bad Reviews Are True

What a let-down. I was duped by a great website and a reputable hotel management company. Never again. Yes, the grounds are beautiful. And the pool was awesome. (Even though they closed it at 6PM for cleaning. Can't they wait until late at night or early morning?) But the KOA, maze-like bungalow layout feel made me feel like I was at camp. Then there was the crappy service upon checkin. My first two rooms (yes two) had mold on the curtains. My third room was nice, colorful and roomy -- spacious marble counter, some cracks in the shower tile, but I can live with that. But the worst part was the ants. On the counters. In the closet. In our suitcases! I called and they sprayed (so thay said) but they never disappeared during our 3-day stay. The restaurant was way overpriced for burger-joint food. The cleaning staff only really made our bed and replensihes our towels, no real cleaning. Overall, the service was iffy. The front desk was VERY rude and seemed put-out by the fact that I wanted a room without mold. But the bell staff was always apologetic and helpful. The bartender at the pool was great. And a bellman even set up a campfire on the beach for us. So there was some good and bad points in the service department. If this were a $65/night deal, I'd say go for it. But we paid $180/night (and that was cheap for this place) and that is a RIP-OFF. If they iron out some major kinks -- like the ants and the front desk staff -- then maybe. Until then, pay a few extra bucks and stay at The Del. That's what we ended up doing.

t be fooled by the pretty landscaping

The Hotel was not worth the money that we spent on it, the property was beautiful but the room was average. It smelled a little musty and the bed was hard as a rock. There were a few ants roaming around the bathroom but not to bad. The employees were friendly and knew the places to go around town. The room was attached to another room and there was really no noise while we were sleeping. The bar at the main pool closed at 4:00 so forget about getting a drink after 4:00, and there not even willing to go get a drink at the other bar for you. The only thing that we trully nice about the resort was the scenery outside. I would not pay that much money to stay here again.
