Great deal

We stayed here for two nights recently having turned up in Mission Beach on a Friday without reservations. We were quoted ridiculous prices at other places on Mission beach so drove up the hill a bit and found this place. What a bargain.

We had a lovely room - the nice chap upgraded us to a suite and it was big, clean, had a kitchen. The whole set up is a great little basic motel and we really enjoyed our stay here. This is a bargain and really really close to the beach,

Perfect Place in San Diego

My husband went for a short weekend getaway over the weekend of October 15-17th. I had read some good things here on tripadvisor so we gave it a try. We found it very easily and checked in fast and the front desk person was very nice and gave us a San Diego map. We got parking right in front of our room. There is lots of parking and it is free! We had room 22. It had 2 big beds and looked like it had been remodeled. Nice furniture and very comfy beds. It was very clean and had three big windows to let natural light and fresh ocean air in. The bathroom wasn't huge but was very clean and updated. The beach was literally a one minute walk from the room. At night the beach had a few lights on the beach so we felt safe walking around there. The hotel was quiet and we rested very easily. We had tons of cable channels. There were tons of restaurants just a very short walk away. Check out was easy and fast. We will surely stay here again. Excellent for the price.

Will not be a repeat guest

We spent one night at PSI. We were impressed with the price ($100) and the location, easy walk to the beach. However that was it. The room was OK as far as clean and we only stayed one night so many of the short commings did not affect us. The oven door would not shut, there was no water in the "kitchen" sink, we were on the coner next to the main road and it was noisy, there were water/mold stains on the ceiling, the bathroom counter was stained, there was a big chip out of the top of the nightstand, there was no alarm clock or hair dryer. I would not stay here again.

Not a dive! Excellent for the price.

I was a bit worried about booking at Pacific Shores Inn. The price was so good and close to Pacific beach I thought it would be a dive or a bit scary. When my sister-in-law and I arrived we were surprised how quaint it was. All of the staff was very nice. Service was prompt, plenty of free parking (which is a bonus), a pool (we never used), and decent rooms. We stayed in room 26 which I think has been updated. The room was clean, big, 2 queen size beds, big closet, small bathroom-shower only. But, who cares. Free cable on the telly.Every morning we would grab free coffee and pastries in the office and sit on our small patio. The beach is about a 1 minute walk from the hotel. We felt safe on the beach and in the area. Garnett Ave/St. is just a few blocks away. It is party central. The bars seem to cater to the early 20's genre. Make sure to check out Mission beach which is only a few minutes south on the other side of the pier. The hotel caters to all types. Yound, old, families, singles, everyone.

We decided to try San Diego for the first time and were at a total loss as to where to stay. When I found this hotel for $81 a night for the 4 of us, I booked it. I expected to arrive at a real dive but it was just fine. . . as we approached room #37 the sun was shining on the butter-colored buildings covered with bright red flowers. So cheerful & up-lifting from the gray Seattle area we came from.
The room was definitely in need of some carpentry (blemishes on the sheet rock, bathroom exhaust did not work, etc.) but we could have cared less because it was quite roomy and comfortable for spending the night. (Although they should replace the blankets- they are loosing their softness.)
Unless you're directly on the beach you couldn't have a better location!
All you had to do was stagger out of the room- and you're there! No need to load up in the car- why bother? You are right on the boardwalk in the thick of it. If you do load up though; Belmont amusement park and board walk is very close- just down Mission Blvd. as well as Mission Park and Jetty. Garnett St. which is with-in walking distance was also lively and entertaining.
For a look at the area- there is a live webcam of the crystal pier (you can actually control the camera to swing around to view the north side of the pier) then spot the largest building which is adjacent to Pacific Shores Inn.
The staff was very nice and accommodating and they had good coffee with donuts in the morning.
When I return to San Diego (probably with family) I will stay here again.

After reading other reviews of this hotel, (some not so good) my wife and I decided to stay at the Pacific Shores Inn in San Diego. Folks, there are ALOT of hotels along Mission Blvd. This one, for the money, is just fine. If you are looking for a sumptuous continental breakfast, this probably ISN'T your kind of place. If you are looking for a King-sized bathroom you can spend all day in, this is probably NOT your kind of place. And if you are seeking ABSOLUTE QUIET during your stay, this hotel may not be your cup of tea. BUT... it is a very nice, clean hotel for the money.

The Continental Breakfast is coffee and danishes at the front desk. The bathrooms are rather small, so if the Mrs. needs a place to primp before you hit the town, or if you've got kids, this bathroom may test your patience a bit. We also found that our shower (this may not be indicative of the entire hotel) had VERY TOUCHY (read sporadic) hot/cold water. You may want to check to shower when you first check in. We also found during our three night stay, that our room had fairly soundproof walls, but a rather "light" ceiling. We could hear the "footfalls" of anybody on the second floor. At times, that made sleeping a bit difficult, but we managed.

On the plus side, this hotel is literally 100 feet from Pacific Beach (Awesome). The pool is clean, deep, and well-maintained. The hotel is also three short blocks from Garnet Avenue, which includes terrific food, good shopping, lots of places to sit and sip, and of course, The Crystal Pier.
You are also short drives away from Sea World, The SD Zoo, Old Town, Balboa Park, Mission Bay and Seaport Village. Weigh out the positives and the negatives. If you are looking for a moderately priced place to stay in Pacific Beach, try the Pacific Shores Inn.

Great place to stay!

Location, location, location! We (nine of us!) stayed here for a week and we loved it! Yes, it's a little run down, and boy, is the the lighting dim, but my goodness, you open your door and step out and there it is--the ocean air hits you and you stroll down a walk way and you're on a fantastic beach! The boardwalk around the whole Pacific Beach area is a must! We had three rooms with kitchenettes which were SO handy. The rooms were clean and well-maintained, the staff was friendly, many good restaurants within walking distance. Close to Sea World and the zoo, although the zoo was not a good experience for us--totally overrated, we all agreed. (Animals caged up are animals caged up regardless of all of the plant life surrounding them.) Anyway--this motel and the area endeared themselves to us, and we will definitely go back!

Great value on a beach motel

My husband and I stayed at Pacific Shores for an extended period due to a relocation, and it was our favorite of all our motels. The location is great: one building away from the beach, a short walk to Garnet St. restaurants and the Pier; the fun location couldn't be beat. Initially we used a "coupon" from one of those motel discount flyers, and got an un-refurbished room, but we liked it. It was kind of beach-funky, and had a small kitchen. Being on the second floor, it had a nice vaulted ceiling. The quality of customer service did vary somewhat depending upon who was at the front desk, but in general, everyone was very friendly. They had coffee and basic rolls, etc. for breakfast, but with the small kitchenette, we could make a real breakfast in our room. We had a little glimpse of ocean from our sliding glass doors which I really liked. The room faced a quieter street, rather than the main drag. The renovated rooms we saw were very nice -- I gather the rooms we stayed in are next in line. People of all ages stayed there -- and the kids, particularly, seemed to be having a blast! Pets okay with small deposit; washer/dryer onsite. Definitely would stay there again.

Not Too Bad!

Our room was clean, had the basics, which is what we were looking for. The beach was right there. One of the front desk clerks didn't seem to have any idea about customer sevice, she stayed on a personal phone call while we waited...and waited. The gal that cleaned our room had hickies covering her neck which was kind of gross. Also, we have a 10 month old, her legs were FILTHY after crawling on the floor...so, I would suggest to mgmt that the floors (carpets) get cleaned! Other than those minor details, we had a nice time there.

Good beach fun

This place is cool. It's a motel 50 yards from the beach. The rooms are not the fancy but we don't mind seeing all we do is sleep there. We have been going there for 5 years and we have had no problems with the staff and the surroundings.Some rooms have a small refer and some have a view. The place is fun. It's a little bit of a walk to Garnet st where all the food and shopping is. You can not find a place in all of Calif for under $100 bucks so close to the beach. We have a 6 year old boy and he loves the beach down in PB. Surfs Up folks enjoy.

Top Local Tips for San Diego

Hotel Del Coronado We had an excellent dinner at the hotel. We dropped in for a drink thinking that the dining room would be too pricey but found the menu varied and fairly priced. Even the price of drinks were reasonable. It is a beautiful spot and well worth a visit.

Easy Commutes To Attractions Going to LaJolla take a left at the end of Mission Blvd, takes you right in. Laguna Beach is worth the trip to see the beautiful area. SeaLion Cove is worth the trip in itself. The local maps at the office are easy to see locations of different attractions. If taking a trip to Hollywood, take the 5 to 2 to 101 and the next exit off 101 is Hollywood Blvd. A few blocks down at Hollywood and Vine are Bus Tours that go to Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, The Stars Homes etc. Great tour.
