Should have been better
from A TripAdvisor MemberExcellent hotel experience
from dpb132The staff service is outstanding - some of the nicest, friendliest, and most helpful employees at any hotel I have ever stayed at. They are clearly trying hard and that makes a difference to me. The room was very nice - complimentary wireless Internet, large and nicely-designed bathroom, great views of the bridge and harbor.
Avoid the $10+ continental breakfast downstairs, which is not very good. Otherwise an outstanding choice (and the price was great - $130/night whereas the Marriott on the other side of the CC was about $40 more). I will definitely stay here again.

from DorbeeWe have stayed at many hotels around the world including Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, Fairmont, Grand Hyatt etc., but we truly experienced TOP SERVICE at this Omni Hotel in San Diego. The accomodations are very comfortable with good sized bedroom, comfy duvet and large bathroom with separate shower, and prices are truly reasonable. Do request for a room that's not on top of the train station though...unless you don't mind the hourly honks when the train pulls in ( this is done throughout the night ). We were fortunate to get a room on the opposite side...completely noiseless! I hope this hotel chain will keep up its good efforts and expand to more countries outside of North America! By the way, this Omni just started operations from April 2004.
Omni..Family friendly?
from A TripAdvisor MemberWow, what a great experience
from huskersrtopsI drove up to the hotel, and was immediately greeted by the staff. They quickly began unloading my bags and giving me information about the hotel. I checked in very quickly, and the bellman escorted me to my room. He gave me all sorts of information about the room, hotel, and the area.
The room was just great. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Sliding doors opened to a tiny step out balcony with a view over the pool and over the bay. The room was had a very modern and hip atmosphere.
The bathroom was very nice, and had the best design I've ever seen in a hotel. Pocket doors opened to a bright and very clean area. The robe was nice, and the towels were very nice. Wooden blinds allowed you to look into the room from the bathroom. Since these don't fully close, and can be opened from either side of the wall, privacy might be a concern for some people.
The room had both wireless and ethernet connections to the internet. My wireless connection was effortless and reliable.
The hotel was 1/2 a block from a trolley stop, across the street from the convention center, 1/2 a block from the Gaslamp District, and attached to the stadium. The location absolutely can't be beat. There's even a full shopping mall within an easy walk.
I checked out on the TV, and made one call to the desk. In less than 5 minutes my bags were being picked up, and my car was waiting when I got to the lobby. The valet gave me directions out of town, and I was on the road within 6 or 7 minutes of calling the front desk!
I thought my stay was truly outstanding and flawless. I hope they keep up this level of excellence!
great for young people
from lisha22Fantastic Stay and Service
from A TripAdvisor MemberGreat Hotel!
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe room was appointed very nicely and what one would expect for an upscale hotel in a major city.
During baseball season when the Padre are in town time your arrivals and departures away from the game times as the traffic around the hotel can be congested.
I would stay here again.
Helpful staff
from tigertown93We should have stayed home!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWhen we arrived, a very friendly doorman greeted us and helped with our luggage. He also informed me that each room has a cd player and that I should take my cd's from the car to enjoy. I thought this attention to detail was a great start to our get away, but my mind was changed when I walked into the lobby. I walked up to the front desk and there were about 3 people working there and not one of them looked up until I was right at the desk. There were no other guests checking in and I really had no idea which person to go to since no one acknowledged me.
Our room was ok. The bedroom is on the small side and the bathroom is huge and not proportionate at all to the room and there is very little shelf or counter space. The bed was very comfortable. The flat screen television was great, but you have to be a techno genius to figure out the remote control.
I had a few major disappointments in my room. First of all, Omni advertises (a lot) that they serve Peet's coffee exclusively, except that when I went to make a cup of coffee in my room, the coffee that they provide is a generic brand. Also, I put the bathrobe on that was provided in the bathroom and my husband pointed out that there was a large make up stain on the sleeve and it wasn't mine as I wasn't wearing any make up. Another cleanliness issue was the pen provided on the desk in our room. The pen cap was completely chewed!!! Omni's housekeeping staff needs to pay some more attention to detail like providing clean robes and unused pens.
We went out shopping in the Gaslamp for a couple of hours before meeting our friends for dinner at the restaurant in the Omni, McCormick and Schmick's, where we had made a reservation. Our friends called us on my cell phone when they were at the restaurant and said that they had been seated and that the hostess knew we would be there shortly to join them. When we walked up to the hostess stand, there were three employees standing there chatting and not one of them acknowledged us until I said excuse me. When I asked for our friends, they told me that no one had arrived. When I asked them to double check, a man who was dressed in a suit and wore a name tag, I'm assuming a manager, came up and started chatting with the hostess, ingoring us once again. They finally came back to us and told us we were welcome to walk around the restaurant to look for our friends and we did find them seated.
We ordered room service the next day and the food and presentation was quite good. We then checked out and went to get our car from the valet. This was the icing on the cake! It took them 25 minutes to bring our car around and they were not even busy! We kept checking with the valet desk for the status of our car's arrival and they kept saying "just a few more minutes". I was beginning to think that my car was lost or stolen!
We left the Omni San Diego ultimately disappointed. They have a lot of stuff to work on and with the amount of competition that they have downtown, one would think that they would be more on top of things. If my husband and I decide to stay downtown again we'll be sure to read Tripadvisor first. The Hilton across from the Omni gets great reviews from Tripadvisor users, so I think we'll try that next.
Top Local Tips for San Diego
Best view in San Diego On a short trip to San Diego, and local recommended that we end our night at the lounge on top of the Hyatt hotel. So glad we did! The view is AMAZING! There were windows on all sides, and all tables and chairs point outward to the view. When we visited late that night, we saw clear to Tijuana, and the city lights were unbelievable. The drinks were a little pricey, and if you want a really nice table you might have to wait a while, but it's worth it. I'm sure the view in daylight would be equally impressive. Don't miss this Must-See!
Take the Trolly Take the Trolly around town...great way to get around
Parking Park in the parking structure directly across the way from the hotel. There is plenty of parking there. It's very close and it's much cheaper than the valet at the hotel.
