Won't do that again

I was unable to make the trip to California for an emergency issue involving work and I called to cancel my reservation in which I was informed I could not do this without being assessed a fee. I begrudgingly said ok and ended up being charged near the amount it would have been had I actually used their facilities. Believe me....I won't do that again!

Terrible experience! We were switched to a horrible room (without being asked). No one at the front desk could explain why (and didn't seem to care). Our only view was a concrete wall. Instead of the sound of the ocean, we got the noise of children on the patio/walkway rolling back and forth on a luggage cart on the . We were awakend to the noise of the housekeeping staff, as their supply/washers/dryers and staff room was directly across from our room. Nothing like the good stench of dirty laundry and water! The staff did tell us (after the fact) that for an additional fee they would guarantee us a room with a view - what a scam! Also, when we asked to switch rooms, they said there were none available. Lo and behold two minutes later when someone came in to ask about rooms one mysteriously became avaiable. To be fair, the pool area is nice, the location is beautiful, and the breakfast is good. With a second or third floor room with a VIEW of the ocean, your stay would be great. Anything else would not be worth the cost!

Great hotel for the money. Pay the extra for the ocean view, its beautiful. The rooms are pretty pedestrian, as was the continental breakfast (don't know what all the raving was about here, its just pastries and cereal) but the staff was friendly and helpful, and the location was worth twice what we paid. If you stay there, walk north up the boardwalk and have breakfast at Kono's, great food, huge portions, around 5 bucks.

Great Reviews Well Deserved!

I just had to write in and thank everybody for those reviews...it was so hard trying to decide on a hotel in CA. I decided to trust what you guys had to say and you were right on the money. We stayed in a king w/sleeper sofa on the ground floor for 4 nights, March 22 - 26. The rooms are small but the view and access to the beach is worth it. My family had a great time and the staff is extremely friendly... I saw several different faces at the front desk and every single one of them was helpful. I just have to add that I made my reservations thru ARES travel at 119/nite and they only reported that we were 2 adults and didn't mention the kids....so the hotel had us in a king bed only. The front desk moved us to a room w/ a sleeper sofa... they were great.
When making your reservations, double check the info. that the hotels has just in case. Great Hotel, wish we were there longer!

No ants, no mould, no mildew

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just a few words to set the record straight. Seven nights at the Ocean Park was a good choice. The hotel is on the beach and the rooms form a semi-circle around the shallow heated pool and spa (serviced daily). Except for the roar of the surf, it was quiet, but a block away were shops, restaurants and the downtown bus. The lobby is rich-looking marble, (with ornate Chinese vases for overkill.) The hotel isn?t exactly new but everything is well maintained. The fridge and microwave in the rooms were handy. The free newspaper and underground parking are nice touches, as is the free breakfast, though unless you have a sweet tooth you?ll stick with bagels and cream cheese. (There was no sign of mould on the muffins, as someone reported earlier, or of mildew in the elevator or for that matter of ants.) Whenever we needed help from the staff, they were cheerful and eager to please. I spent two days exploring the town by bike, and just out of interest I checked out some of the other hotels we?d been considering. Some had wings of inferior rooms, some were up against parking lots and highways. Some were on waterfront in the bay, but so polluted and stinky that you wouldn?t walk along the shore let alone in the water. So it was also good value in comparison to other places in the price range. The best part was falling asleep to the sound of the sea.

Wonderful Place To Stay!!

Wonderful accomodations, clean, large, pool, hot tub. Excellent service, great view of the ocean, enjoy the sunsets from your private balcony. Located on the boardwalk. Try Joe's Crab Shack & Kono's for excellent food all nearby. Can't wait to visit and stay here again.

Surf with a view

We have been going to Ocean Park Inn since the mid 90s and find it a reasonable alternative to Crystal Pier...our favorite place to stay in all of San Diego. It is, however, extremely difficult to get a cottage without a reservation months in advance. The Ocean Park Inn is our second choice when we decide on a spur of the moment trip to San Diego.
Always clean, it has been remodeled in the past 3 years and the staff is friendly and helpful. The ocean view rooms have a King size bed and wonderful views. Park your car in the underground garage and walk to shops and restaurants in moments. Each room has it's own balcony which affords some quality people and sunset watching. There are homeless people on the boardwalk, but there is security and there is rarely any problems. This is one of the best values for the dollar and worth looking into if you plan on traveling to San Diego.

Excellent hotel and a great price. Staff was very courteous, breakfast good, clean pool, no problems at all. Would advise highly to stay here.

Great Value

We have stayed in several hotels in Pacific Beach and Ocean Park Inn is our favorite. The location is great - right on the Boardwalk near Crystal Pier. We had an ocean front room with beautiful sunsets. Rooms are large enough to have a sofa and desk. You can skip the free breakfast. Instead, walk up the boardwalk to Kono's.

Took my childern down to San Diego for some Christmas activities-PB parade-Harbor Light parade-ect.I usually get a hotel thu Hotwire-but it was our before Christmas getaway I sprung for the hotel basicly to have a parking space for the parade. We arrived later than usual because of a storm, and were greeted nicely. We got a room on the 3rd floor, and the view was fab. I was given coupons for nearby eateries which we used. There is an underground parking garage which is tight if you have a bigger car, and an elevator to all floors. There is coffee and juice all day in the lobby area and breakfast in the early AM-never got up that early though.PB is not for the faint at heart-lots of activity going on always. The pool we didn't use beause it was Dec., but we did see people in it. There is also a locked gate from the boardwalk, with a shower to wash off the sand from your feet. I almost want to give a bad review so no one else will find this little gem. It's our new spot.

Our family loved it!

We chose to stay a night in December at the the Ocean Park Inn for our trip to Sea World. It was right on the boardwalk and steps from the beach which was perfect for the kids to run around. There were a number of homeless people around, and we were surprised that we never saw any type of baordwalk security, but everyone seemed to mind their own business and never approached us or panhandled. The underground parking was quite an advantage, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Falling asleep listening to the waves was great as it was all quiet by 8:00pm. We'd definitely go back.
