Watch out!! They nickel and dime you!!

Beautiful hotel but I will not ever stay in anything owned by Hilton again. Why? Let me list the reasons!:
1. $10.00 p/day parking
2. floats for pool: $15.00 p/day
3. $1.25 every time we used our calling card
4. If we didn't use our calling card, they charged an arm and a leg to make a direct call. A 8 min call to Poway, Ca. which is not far from San Diego cost us $9.34
5. My sister needed a tylenol for a headache. They would not give her one. They said she would have to buy it from the gift shop when they opened in the morning. Having enough of all this, I marched in to the main desk and asked to speak to a manager. I then did receive the tylenol.
6. Cup of coffee: $2.50. There is coffee in the room you can make yourself but at the price you pay for a room at this place you shouldn't have to make it yourself. Also, I left my cup in my parent's room one morning. I figured they would replace it the next day. They never did, so the rest of the trip we only had one cup.
7. They will not change your sheets or your towels unless you request them to be changed.

If you stay here, be up front and tell them you won't pay for parking. I bet they won't even fight with you about it and take it off your bill right away because they know what a farce that is!

Also, the pool is definitely nothing special!! Just a large "L" shape. At some points it is 12 ft. deep. No diving, no lifeguard.

We recently spent eight days at the resort and the staff was wonderful, so helpful at all times. The grounds are beautiful. Our room was comfortable. We ate at the hotel a few times and everything was wonderful..

Definitely Not Deserving of a 4-Diamond Rating

After reading the mixed reviews on this site, we were somewhat hesitant to stay at the Resort, but relying primarily on AAA's 4-Diamond Rating and the Hilton brand, we made the reservation. Upon our arrival late at night on June 7, we were shown our "deluxe" bay-front bungalow room. It clearly was not worth the $209/night rate we were quoted. While clean and spacious, the room was quite bare and in desparate need of renovation -- the beds, bedspreads, desk chair, toilet seat and carpeting were worn and appeared as if they were many years old, and the TV was tiny. I can't comment on the grounds of the resort because after spending 5 minutes in the room, we went back to the front desk and cancelled our reservation. I expect much more from a 4-diamond property. Even the front desk supervisor acknowledged that the resort needed renovations and that renovations were scheduled for this autumn. We ended up getting a better rate and had a wonderful time staying at the L'Augerge Resort & Spa in Del Mar -- a beautiful resort worthy of its 4-Diamond rating.

Friendly Staff, Excellent Service

We just spent four nights at the Hilton and loved it. We got a great deal on priceline and are very pleased with all aspects of this hotel. The grounds are beautiful, the staff friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was excellent and worth the price. My husband's steak had a remarkable sauce over it and when he wanted to know what it was, the chef came out and spoke to us personally.It has easy access from and onto the freeway. The pool area and beach were immaculate. The staff caters to both families with children and business people. Very relaxed setting. We will go back!

Relaxed friendly place with beautiful grounds

Stayed three nights with an adjoining room with our kids and grandkids. A family-friendly resort with a terrific pool area and beach. Nicely located for quick trips to Sea World, Zoo, parks, etc. It's true there could be some room updates, but we were not there to spend much time in our rooms watching TV. The bathroom was roomy and well appointed. The grounds and views are absolutely beautiful, the staff very helpful, and the beach/pool area are great with lots of activities available at the beach. Restaurant food was above average and not over priced, but don't expect quick service. Our room was in a courtyard with a peek at the bay, a short walk to the beach area. As far as price is concerned, we got a great rate and were very pleased. Stay at this hotel if you are looking for relaxed fun, comfort and beauty.

After Conference

I stayed at this resort during a conference held there in November. They upgraded me to a nicer room with a king bed when I asked with Hilton Honors. Staff were all VERY nice. My room had a good sized lower seating area with sink and small fridge and opened to a balcony. The TV and bathroom were all very nice and the grounds were very pretty and perfectly maintained. The gym was nice to have available and was free since some minor renovation was going on. I also asked and received free parking for the week. I did not use any resort amenities like the pool because it was cold, but they looked wonderful. Rather than pay way too much for limited use of a bike by the resort I had a bike delivered by a bike shop for the whole week and the front desk helped me get it and return it once I asked for help. The hotel is a perfect location for biking around the bay at all hours. Food at the resort was just OK and rather slow for breakfast. I would stay here again for business or if I wanted to be on Mission Bay.

Returned from a weekend trip. Location is very close to SeaWorld. Rooms are a bit of a disappointment. Rooms were old and a bit worn. Room service plates from next room were left uncollected in hallway. Don't know how long as they were there from check-in to check-out. (3 days) Valet parking only and it was a long walk to get to our car. Staff was friendly. Free wireless in lobby. No high-speed in room. Place just seem a bit worn and needs more attention from staff in terms of maintance. Would recommend the Hilton at the Gasslamp district instead.

After reading some of these reviews, I was ready to cancel, however, I was out of time. I warned my husband to not expect the Ritz Carlton.

I do not know who wrote these poor reviews, because, they must have stayed at a different hotel!

We ordered a Bayside room- and it really was, steps to the sand. The room was very nice, and the location was fabulous.

We ate dinner at their restaurant and it was excellent. *Mind you, were are restaurant owners! We know our stuff.

We had breakfast there also, waitress was a bit slow, however, to give her credit they were having the Saint Patty's Day jog-a-thon that morning and it was packed with joggers, who might normally have been there at that time.

It was very fun to sit in our bed, with the curtains drawn and watch all the people go jogging by as we sipped our morning coffee and read the news.

Even without a jog-a-thon happening, this is where many San Diegans choose to walk, run, skate etc.. It reminded me of our sailboat of many years that was docked close to the walking areas, wherein, we could also sip our coffee and watch, the parents with babies, and others with their dogs go by. Better then any t.v. show! LOL

The pool facility is wonderful. You are overlooking the Marina and beach, while using either the pool or one of the several spas.

I had a meeting with a local resident at the hotel, she informed me, that the Hilton San Diego Resort, is a favorite of the locals (who ought to be in the know)!

Personally, we live about an hours drive north of this facility.

We are in our 50's, and both of us are world travelers who prefer the better things in life. Including our hotels!

My husband's best friend is a hotshot for the Ritz Carlton, so we have stayed in many of them.

This is not the Ritz Carlton, this is a beachy, clean, spacious, (grounds are on 16 acres), relaxed~ with good service~ in a great area~ hotel with a very nice restaurant~pool~cabana and beach.

PS: Yes, they do have a business center, so of course you can conduct business there. It truly makes me question, who wrote the negative reviews. An upset competitor?

Anyway, go if you can... it's a great place.

Just returned, 3/12/03, from this resort. Spent 7 nights and loved it!
We initially booked our vacation with the Bahia, but after checking in and seeing the horrible rooms we left. We just happened to drive by the Hilton and thought we would check it out. We explained we had no reservations and wondered what was available. The person at the front desk was awesome. We explained our situation to her and she gave us a terriffic room! The grounds are very beautiful - very relaxing - we couldn't have stayed at a better place. We would highly recommend staying here!

The bayfront double queen room was shockingly outdated. The TV was a tiny P.O.S. magnavox. The bedscovers were gross - think 70's polynesian. The slider looked like it had been forced open. minibar was unlocked when we checked in (early..) $10 parking fee - but the empoyees take the spots near my room and I'm forced to walks a longer distance w. my three kids. old room service food sat outside the room til a bum ate it. They comp'd our breakfast (it was OK) when they accidentally gave the bill to someone else..Thanks !! It is a pretty resort - beautiful landscaping around the pool. lots of joggers, watersports, etc..nice fitness center. good lunch. needs better management.

Top Local Tips for San Diego

Don't waste your money for breakfast at the hotel We found the best place to eat breakfast just 5 minutes away from the Hilton called The Breakfast House Perry's Cafe on Pacific Hwy. It has huge portions, great service and is reasonably priced.

Stay away from Hilton San Diego Resort I heard the Bahia Resort is FABULOUS!! If I ever go back, I'll try to stay there.

Balboa Park is a magical place and FREE You have to go to the park and see the glass blowers, the botanical garden, the theatre, the Space Museum, and so much more. It's right next to the famous zoo. There is so much to do, it can't all be done in a day even if you start at 6am and go until 10pm on a case of Red Bull.
