The Hilton Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter is a very modern well designed hotel in a great location. The rooms are very nice and quite. The breakfast buffet is good for the price. The pool is a good size, but the spa area is very small. The hotel rooms are very expensive in comparison to the surrounding area. Even during special convention events, the Hilton rooms are is listed as having some of the most expensive rooms in comparison to other hotels adjacent to the convention centre.

Relaxed and friendly service

from Gloucs
Lovely hotel and charming people. Quite a relaxed atmosphere here - unusual in city hotels and most welcome. Ideally situated for all the best of San Diego and great restaurants on the doorstep. I recommend 'Chive' up the road - excellent meal and friendly service. Room service at the hotel is quite good however - ordered a pizza on arrival late at night and ingredients were fresh and delicious. Very comfortable and clean rooms, excellent bathrooms, especially in the Loft apartments. Inclusive continental breakfast was excellent for our needs and service was good. My sister and I enjoyed a most comfortable and pleasant four days here.

Beautiful rooms!

Beautifully appointed rooms with down comforters and loads of pillows! Excellent location in the Gaslamp district, directly across from convention center.

A pleasant suprise

For a three star hotel, Hilton offered many little touches that are often found in a five star hotel. I was very pleased that there was an ironing board (and iron) in the cupboard and a hair dryer in the bathroom. The hotel also had a very comprehensive write up on services available in the hotel, which included free access to a computer and to the Internet (although you have to limit your use if another guest is waiting). The concierge service was also very pleasant and knowledgeable. The only thing which was irritating was the auto sensor in the fridge. This is so sensitive that even if you just open the fridge, it thinks you have removed a food item! Also, unlike other hotels whose mini bar fridge has some empty space, hilton's fridge is so tightly packed that you can't put anything in the fridge and it costs quite a bit to hire a fridge.

Incredible place to escape

I made reservations for a weekend getaway to this hotel after reading an article about it. Very nice and in the best location to the ballpark and nightlife. The bar is pretty cool, and we liked the designer pool area (gets sun ALL day long!). We'll go back!

Hip and Way Cool!

This hotel is a slice of heaven! I usually stay at "W's", however, it was sold out. Now I thank god it was! This Hilton is THE BEST hotel I have ever stayed in. What they call The Enclave is the sexiest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Their staff, location and living room lobby should be listed in the dictionary under "Perfection". If you are going to San Diego, head straight to this jewel!

great location, nice hotel

from lisatravels
The location of this hotel is ideal, right in the heart of the Gaslamp District, directly across the street from the convention center, and right by one of the trolley stops. It was really wonderful to stroll out every night to enjoy the Gaslamp's night life and to feel very safe doing so. I would be a bit leery staying at some of the hotels in the outlying areas of the Gaslamp, as many areas of downtown clear out at night. I walked to an evening reception at one of these hotels and was harassed and followed for several blocks. Any of the hotels within a block of the conference center, such as the Hyatt & Marriott, would be safe, though the Hilton is the closest to both the restaurants and the conference center. The Hilton was nice -- everything in good condition, nice decor, clean and with a courteous staff. That said, I had expected that at the price I was paying it would a little more spectacular; I guess you are paying for the prime location. I had just stayed at the Holiday Inn - Old Town at slightly more than a third of the price of the Hilton, and the rooms were the same size with the furnishings at the Hilton just slightly nicer, the one exception being the beds. The beds at the Hilton were the plushest I've slept in at a hotel, very comfortable mattresses with two down comforters. I was a little thrown by the wet bar. There was a note on it said the fridge was equipped with an electronic sensor and if you moved anything in it and didnâ t put it back in 20 seconds or put anything into it you would be charged $20. I got the feeling they suspected their guests would be sneaking out to buy cheap items to replace what they used.

One of the Best Hilton!

Stayed for 4 days to attend a seminar during Feb 2004. Great location.
Right next to the convention center and the Gaslight district. Short walk to all destinations within the Gaslight district, (Food, shopping etc). Property is new and everyting was perfect. Service was excellent and the valet remembered my name. (Valet parking only at $21 @night) Stayed at "Executive" level but lounge is a bit small compare to other Hilton and only open between 6am - 10am. One of the best Hilton I have ever stayed. Highly recommend!!

Great place to lodge

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel staff from the valet, bell boy, front desk and concierge were fantastic. They all really knew the gaslamp district and gave great tips. The room was quite large and very comfortable. It was extremely clean and very inviting. We order breakfast from room service and found the prices very reasonable and the food was good. We look forward to our next trip to San Diego and will make this Hilton our choice for lodging.

Elegant hotel

A wonderful hotel with a very attentive staff-- I stayed here in late December 2003. The rooms are nicely sized with luxurious bedding. Best hotel food I have in years. Also, on the morning of my departure, I found myself needing emergency sanitary products at 5am before any drugstores in the neighborhood had opened. I called guest services and they located products and had them discreetly sent up to my room. I had originally chosen this hotel because I was attending an enormous conference and I did not want to stay at the nearby Hyatt or Marriot to avoid the long elevator waits. But when I return to SD for pleasure, I will stay at this hotel again. One thing to note: If you are a business traveller, this hotel's business center has only one computer, and thus it's not entirely compatible with those who require extensive business accessories, although online access is available in rooms.

Hilton Gaslamp and San Diego were great

from BowieBill
The Hilton Gaslamp is very conveniently located near the San Diego trolley at the edge of the Gaslamp Quarter. That is very advantageous (we took the trolley to the Chargers game) but it also comes with the attendant train switching noise at night. Otherwise the Hilton property and staff was first class (Trish the concierge rocks!) and we enjoyed our stay. Parking is $21 per night, ugh! But once parked, access to the Gaslamp is a VERY big convenience. I would recommend the Hilton and I would stay there again.

Top Local Tips for San Diego

Dining out Walk down 5th street located at the far right of the hotel. You will come across everything from fine dinning to hip little eaterys and bars.

Hilton Gaslamp - easy to get to Take the bus from the airport - it stops right in front of the airport and drops you right by the Hilton -- all for $2.25 -much less than a cab -- and you get a great intro look and orientation to the city/harbor on the ride!

U.S.S. Midway This tour takes at least 3 hours. There is no way I could go through another museum, boat, sub or learning activity after this. Take this tour in the morning so you are fresh.
