Avoid this Motel
from CAR09The staff was extremely unfriendly, unhelpful and did not know the meaning of customer service. This is definitely not a hotel/resort but rather a motel trying to be something it is not and they overcharge on everything.
If you are expecting to utilize the shuttle, forget it. We saw it used once. We were told they offered free shuttle service to the area we were needing to visit, but once we arrived at the site we found out otherwise. The hotel recommended cab service was also inefficient.
The rooms were ok, but there is no elevator to the second floor. Carrying luggage up stairs is unheard of!
There are much better properties that should be chosen rather than staying here (especially at the rates this property is charging and the lack of customer service received). We had high expectations, and unfortunately they were completely dashed.
once bitten twice shy
from pigginthe name hotel for europeans means a different thing in the usa, this was definately a motel.
this hotel is good only for people who drive and don't want to walk anywhere. the roads or rather motorways (freeways) are always very busy and theres always alot of noise from them---i would not have liked to have a room at the front of the hotel as the rooms do not have double glazing.
i was glad i only had 4 nights there and should i visit san diego again i know i will not be staying at this hotel again.

from BigHouseBobThe location of the hotel is good - if you can withstand the Interstate (8) running past a few 100 metres away, and don't forget the construction site next door. We clocked this as we approached, and saw the 4 annex buildings. Somehow I just knew (being from England) we would be in the one at the end next to the construction site. Guess what? I was right. When I checked in the only comment they could say was - "I know we're sorry!"
The room itself was fine - well decorated and clean , but small.
Anyway before we unpacked, I checked with the Manager about working time on the site. Don't worry, they don't work weekends, and they don't start until 9am - which was fair enough for us as we will be up and about at this point going to explore the delights of San Diego.
Monday 7:15 am they started. It then took the hotel staff 5 hours of messing us about to get us moved to another room - how can a hotel not know what rooms it has available or will be coming available that day??
Most of the staff, with the exception of the Bell-hop & the woman who runs the shop are genuinely unhelpful - especially if you have a problem. Watch out for the bar tender's tongue if you're not a US citizen!!
The breakfast was poor and expensive for the choice.
All the Annex buildings have key card entry for security, however, each doorway has louvre glass panels, with 1 or 2 panes removed, through which you can place your hand (if your tall enough) and trigger the unlck sensor and thus release the door. I know America is a fairly safe place, but this seems to defeat the object.
$8 a day for car parking - if you have a car you have no option - this appeared to be everybody's favourite complaining point.
The only good thing I can say about this place (and I am being objective) is the pool is pretty good.
Apart from that I'd look for somewhere good to stay if you're visiting San Diego.
It was not bad

from A TripAdvisor MemberThey say the "Fashion Mall" is across the street, which is NOT truth. It is about 3 long blocks, where you have to walk pass a golf course, before you can get to the "Fashion Mall".
The freeway is in front of the hotel, so you cannot cross the street easily, to the other establishments.
We had reserved a room, to attend a wedding at this hotel. The Handlery Hotel promised to pick us up at the airport, as stated, on the invitation. When we arrived, they had no shuttle to pick us up, because the shuttle was taking other customers to Seaworld, Old Town, etc.
Later, we met our friends at the wedding, and they said the same thing. They said the Handlery Hotel did not fulfill their promise to all of us, so they will NEVER stay at this hotel again.
One of the shuttle drivers said the Hotel is in the process of eliminating all rides to and from the airport. But we were promised the free shuttle ride, way in advance of the wedding! Many of us chose to stay at this hotel, because of the free shuttle to and from the airport, which none of us got!
The Service was bad overall. We had to wait awhile to check-in, because there was only one person in the front desk to help so many of us, in line.
There were not enough towels in the room for 3 persons. so we called Housekeeping and they gave us just 2 large bath towels, instead of a complete set, that should have been in the room, in the first place.
And we had to wait awhile, again, to get our luggage, because no one was there to help us.
Because our flight back home is so early in the morning, we wanted to settle our bill the night before. they refused to do that, because they say they have someone in the front desk, 24 hours, so we should just check out, then.
We made our room reservation way in advance. But we were given a room, very, very far in the back.
Based on everything above, we will NEVER stay at any of the Handlery Hotel again!
smelly, dark, dismassal as well hated my stay

San Diego Zoo and Seaworld Use the free hotel shuttle bus to take you to the Zoo and Seaworld
The Cheesecake Factory A good place to eat the Cheescake Factory is part of a chain. This one in San Diego is a great place to visit. Be prepare to wait as gets very busy on most nights. If the wait is over an hour I would suggest a quick stroll over to the mall & visit the Apple shop for a browse or to access the internet free! The portions for food are large & we felt very full, for a family of four the cost with no alcohol was around $80 not bad considering we had main courses & 3 cheescake desserts to take away. We would suggest not eating in the gaslamp quarter as it is extremely expensive compared to other options.
Baseball Though the hotel had a ticket agency we got tickets for the baseball at the Pardes stadium and they were only $20 (£10) and a great view.
