Top Local Tips for San Diego

Don't Step on the Homeless Folks! San Diego is a very affluent city. At the same time, it has lots of homeless people, living on the streets of downtown, most of whom are mentally disturbed and ought to be in a safer environment than the streets.

The Gaslamp Has it all........... Greyhound bus station, airporter service, night clubs, exotic restaurants, Theatres, you name it, it's there.

San Diego is a Great Place to go..however.. Especially when in downtown San Diego, "watch your back, Jack!". Keep your eyes "peeled" for pickpockets, aggressive panhandlers and anything that seems "too good to be true". Stay around the Horton Plaza area, if possible. The Security there is excellent! They have ATM's, fine dining, excellent shopping, and whatever you might need, all in one location! The OMNI Hotel, closeby, offers ice cold beer and a nice variety of mixed drinks, as well as a friendly staff. They also have the nicest, cleanest restrooms in downtown San Diego, if you are on the move and "nature calls"! Do not use the TAXI's in front of the Horton Plaza! They are terrible and will cheat you blind! Rather, call a reputable cab company like YELLOW, CHECKER, etc. Tell the dispatcher exactly where you will be, your first name, and have a cel phone or be near a landline, so they can verify. The front of OMNI is a good, safe pick-up point. The doorman will assist for a dollar or two tip! It is WORTH IT! Enjoy San Diego!
