Comfortable, Decent Value

Enjoyed a five-night stay during a family vacation to San Diego. Found it to be a good value overall. The room was large (with two comfortable queens - great if, like me, you have a couple of young kids) and quiet. The courtyard pool/spa area was spacious and thoroughly relaxing (wading pool for the tiny tots is a nice touch), though the towel supply could have been kept up a little better. Breakfast buffet was pretty good though, as someone else noted, a bit pricey, due I'm sure to the lack of nearby alternatives. Located in a modern business park about 20 minutes from the airport, it is convenient enough to downtown and all points north, especially when you consider the free parking. Del Mar beach is a short 5-min. drive. Internet service runs $10 a day - which is common but IMO too steep especially for an extended stay. Staff was cheerful and generous with the cookies on request! All in all, it was an enjoyable stay at a reasonable price.

Our room (#521) was a bit on the small side & faced the parking lot but cleanliness was most important to us and the place was definitely clean! The bed was very comfortable. The day shift at the front desk was helpful but not very friendly. They did nothing that defined excellent customer service. The night shift was a whole other story.... Pinky Donovan & Missy Havins were great! They gave great ideas for things to see and do in San Diego as well as places to dine. They always greeted us with smiles on their faces and even though it was the "graveyard" shift, they always seemed to be having fun at their jobs and put everyone around them in a good mood. They made us feel welcome and that is what makes customers repeat patrons.

Great place to stay near San Diego

I stayed at the Doubletree Del Mar for four nights on a business trip in early March. This is among the nicest Doubletrees I've stayed in. It was very clean and the employees - from the front desk to the service people - were extremely nice, professional, and courteous. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The rooms are well insulated and I never heard anything from the other rooms. The hotel is not far from I-5, but I never noticed any road noise. There is no fee for parking and there are a few restaurants nearby.

My business was in San Diego, but I chose to stay here to save some money. I paid about $165 including taxes. It's only a 10 minute drive to La Jolla, and about 20 minutes to San Diego down the interstate.

If I had to list any negatives: The breakfast bar was pricey ($14) and not very well stocked. You have to pay (swipe your credit card) to use the computer (normally, the use of the business center computer is free in the hotels I stay).

Overall, I would recommend this hotel and would be happy to stay here again when I'm in the area.

Clean Doubletree

We found the Doubletree at Delmar to be very clean and tidy. The employees were very friendly and service-oriented. It happened to be farther north than we had expected since our main visit was to Coronado, but the travel to and from outside of traffic hour was about 20 minutes. We would stay here again if we were wanting to see sites close by such as La Jolla Cove or Mission Bay.

We stayed at the Doubletree Del Mar on Feb 4, 2006. The room has very comfy bed and the hotel pool was nice and grounds were well maintained. We'll stay there again when we go to SD area.

Customer Service is Outstanding at the Doubletree Del Mar

We recently stayed at the Del Mar Doubletree and are planning to come back. The staff at this hotel did everything they could to make our stay comfortable. We were granted an early check-in, a late check-out, an upgraded room by the pool, and even provided a wheelchair!
Our large room had been recently redone and the pool area is very attractive. There is a grocery store about a block away which was very convenient. The parking is free.

The Doubletree Del Mar Hotel was easily accessible off a major highway. This extremely clean 3-star hotel was a very good deal considering that I was able to successfully bid $60/night on Priceline for this Hotel. I had stayed in a 2 star Hotel in San Diego last year for $60 and it in no way measured up to the value of the $60 I paid. My trip was overcast and rainy and I didn't get an opportunity to try the pool or jacuzzi, yet I walked around the pool area and it would have been very relaxing to enjoy the pool if weather was better. The restaurant was slightly pricey. I had no complaints with the comfort of my room. The only exception overall, was that our room was next to the elevator and you can hear the mechanics of the elevator. I recommend that you request a room that is not next to the elevators.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel December 29th - January 3rd. From the moment of arrival we felt very comfortable. The staff is extremely accommadating and very friendly. They are quick to offer advice or direction and are very generous with the free cookies. I ate way too many. We had a room on the third floor overlooking the pool and, unfortunately, the freeway. The room was clean and spacious. It had a comfortable queen bed with a nice comforter and plenty of pillows. I noticed a little freeway noise the first night but after that it wasn't a problem. If you need a convenient, friendly place to stay....this is it. We stayed at the Estancia in La Jolla last year but enjoyed this hotel much more for a third of the price. Check Priceline for a great deal on this hotel. Happy travels.

Great location, amenities, and value for the money

The hotel is located in Del Mar off I-5 exit off Carmel Valley Road. Close to the Del Mar racetrack, Torrey Pines preserve and beach, LaJolla village (15min) drive next town over, Torrey Pines Golf course. Ideal also to Sea World, Lego Land, and downtown Sa Diego.

The hotel rooms are expansive, clean and neat with a very friendly staff. The hotel also has a resort style flavor and is very family friendly. Mind you I was on a business trip where my family has joined me and the experience has been great with a friendly staff at the front desk and a concierge. The hotel also has a great swimming pool that you would want top take a dip or just hang out at the pool. The landscaping around the pool is very warm and feels exclusive there. Potential issue with the restaurant where I may not have lunch. But if you are a Hilton's Honor member you get free breakfast everyday which is buffet style. Lot's of fruit and a very substatial selection available. Staff is very friendly and makes for any issues you may have.

renting kayaks and snorkel gear head for La Jolla Shores -- right around the corner from La Jolla cove but you have to drive to get there - Avenida de la Playa is lined with gear rental shops.

La Jolla Kayaking and Snorkeling in La Jolla, there are several places to rent the equipment or take a guided tour. I went with San Diego Bike and Kayak-got a guided tour, Kayak'd to the Caves and then snorkeled with Sea Lions, Leopard Sharks, BIG orange fish (forgot what they were called) for almost 4 hours for only $65. I'd go back and just rent a snorkle and go swim with the sharks. The La Jolla beach is very snorkle and swim friendly, no boats (only kayaks). You can feasibly snorkle from the beach over to the caves.
