no sleep but cheap

from A TripAdvisor Member
I booked my stay @ the good night inn through the telephone based on my stay @ other god night inns. I was really surprised that my stay here this time turned out so badly. I really didn't sleep well. It seemed like there were tons of rooms available and they put us right next to a room filled with 4 people. they were up all night in and out of their room. There was a light on the balcony that was on all night and it wasn't very dark in the room. And there was no padding on the matress, just a paper thin sheet. The pillows were very, very flat. So, sleeping wasn't really good at all. But it was clean, it wasn't dingy or gross, or anything like that. The bathroom was fine and the furninshings were nice. The front desk was helpfull and nice and they had a small cont. Breakfast available which was nice and the checkout was 11am which was a plus too.

barely ok for the price

from Krazie
I stayed here one night while passing through. Since it was the cheapest thing that I could find, $38, I can't complain too much. They provided pretty much what I wanted, which was a bed. A really hard bed at that. However, this was listed on Expedia as a two star, and I can't figure out what deserves the second star. The carpet was dirty, the linens cheap, and the bathroom just plain icky. There were some kind of red stains on the shower curtain. Not sure if it was lipstick or blood. Finally, they offer some kind of continental breakfast. I barely got a good look at it because the smell in the room was so putrid I wanted to vomit. I think there was a choice between a piece of soggy cheap bread or a little dried out danish. Stay here if you want something cheap and you are arriving late and leaving early.

Poor Service

from rock_botttom
I stayed at the Good Night Inn and was not thrilled by the experience. I was travelling with other musicians who were playing a date in Monterey the next day. Several guys were hanging out in the area of our rooms which caused us concern. We were not comfotable leaving our instruments in the rooms. The elevator floor was filthy and remained so during our entire stay. I saw cleaning staff riding the elevator and took no steps to clean it. The Soda machine was sold out and never was refilled. The room was good sized, worn but clean. Romm ammenities are minimum. No refridgerator or microwave in my room but the other room we had did have them. Room service failed to clean the room or provide additional clean towels. I asked the other fellows if their room has been serviced and theirs was not either.

Loud talking and drunken noise from a couple in the jacuzzi at 1am. I called the front desk for assistance.

Upon check-out, I complained about the room service or lack thereof and they seemed suprised, looked at some service logs and aplogized. Stating they would clean the room now. I did not care as I was checking out! Continental breakfast was good.

The parking lot is littered with alcoholic beverage containers and we came under the impression that the hotel is frequented by prostitutes. The keyboard player did not have a problem with that though.

When we return to Monterey, we will go to another hotel.

Ps. I have never seen a hotel with so many management responces to negative customer reviews.

Not worth the savings

from A TripAdvisor Member
Seeing that the hotel was supposedly rated two stars we figured that for the price staying here would be a very good deal. Unfortunately we would have been better off spending a few more dollars for a better room. Though clean, the room was well worn, with stains on the carpet and poorly made repairs to the bathroom door and room paint (how about painting the whole door after repairs are made?). Towels were of very poor quality. Proximity to the freeway, combined with little sound insulation meant that the morning rush hour substituted for the morning wake-up call. We recommend that management spend a few bucks and buy new carpets and furniture, paint the walls and freshen up the bathroom fixtures and tiling.

Fine for the Price

from Lottifish
We weren't expecting luxury as the price was the cheapest we could find. Rooms was clean which I thought was most important. Bathroom was old but worked. No towel holders but it's not that big a deal. The shower only has 1 cloth curtain so when you take a shower the curtain gets soaked but that's not my problem. Also, the bath towels were very small but still not horrible. For the price I'd stay here again. It was about a 20-30 minute drive to cannery row at Monterey. Not super quite so if you're a light sleeper this may not be the place for you. Trains go by every few hours (although I slept through most of them) and when someone took a shower in the room next door it sounded as though we were being bombed. Fortunately, the people next door didn't usually take showers until after 9am.

Good Value

from HShilts
This hotel was really good value. It was a great deal and we had a large room(two double beds) for $50 a night. I'm not sure what other reviewers expect for such a price but we stayed two nights and it was perfectly adequate. Yes its near the highway and not terribly picturesque but it is a short and scenic drive down the 68 to Monterey and we used it as a base to get to the coast. It was clean and comfortable and had a pool too. Staff were friendly and helpful. If you want a luxury hotel then go elsewhere but we found it met our expectations and was well described on all websites.

Not a bad stay, but could be better

from Trudy48
I stayed in the Good Nite Inn for 5 nights while my husband was in the hospital. The staff was friendly, but somewhat inexperienced. The room was small (Room 130). It was clean and the bed was comfortable. One thing I found strange was that there weren't any towel racks in the bathroom or even a hook on the bathroom door. Which really bugged me! Since I didn't see any of the other rooms I don't know if it was just that room or if it is a strange policy of the motel?! The motel is located just off of 101 which is handy for those traveling and it is located in an industrial area, but I didn't find that objectible or of any bother to me. This is a good economical place to stay and I would stay there again if the need were to arise.

Comfortable stay. Great service!

My husband and I stayed at the Good Night Inn in Salinas as few weeks ago. We booked the rooms in advance for a bike race at Laguna Seca. The Desk clerk was very friendly and informative when we asked for directions to local restaurants. It was not a huge room, but it was comfortable and clean. We could not have asked for more. Clean, friendly and accomidating. We would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Salinas area, ecspecially for the price.

Great stay

Our stay at the Good Night Inn was great. My family and I were just traveling through and seen the sign. The staff was nothing but nice to us. And the room was very clean and affordable. I would recomend this hotel highly. I was shocked after reading the other reviews, this hotel is nothing like that now.

Bad horror movie hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We were in the states for a month and stayed in a lot of different hotels in California.. This one was by far the worst!!! We had the feeling that we were not save here and we hated it.. The door blocked we could not close the curtans... We decided to stay and move on to San Francisco very early in the mornig.. But that same night we went eating around the corner at a place recommended by the hotel where you can have breakfast, lunch and diner... We ordered a tri-tip and where watched through the window by a very dirty man.. but the worst, there was a cockroach on my grilfriend's plate..!! We did not know how fast to leave Salinas and drive back to Monterey where we found a very good Best Western Hotel... So what I am trying to say: "NEVER GO THERE!!"

I can assure you that the Good Nite Inn Salinas is a safe Hotel and that all the guest room curtains open and close properly. There are many good places to eat with in a short distance of the hotel.

Rositas Armory Cafe by the Greyhound Station Amazing food, clean and beautiful environment. We ate there 25 years ago and remembered the food so we ventured back. Okay - so it's near the Greyhound station - that's a little discomforting but the food is above excellent. Try the huevos rancheros - sensational
