I stayed at the Mission Inn because of its convenient location directly across from Mario's Restaurant, at which I was attending a special event. The hotel was quite charming and very comfortable. Check in was quick and easy. The room was quite comfortable. In all a very enjoyable experience.

We had a glorious stay at the Mission Inn. Right from the initial check-in, which was swift and welcoming, we felt that we stepped back into a different time---a time of luxeries and opulence. Every nook and cranny was explored by us, first on a fabulous tour, and then on our own. We sampled the lobby's piano bar, the courtyard restaurant, and the formal dining room. The service was gracious and the food's presentation was only surpassed by the savory taste. We loved every minute of our stay!

Nice Weekend Getaway

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I are a fan of historic hotels and we were not disappointed with the Mission Inn in Riverside. The hotel is located in downtown Riverside, where there is a nice "pedestrian" area to walk in the evenings. We stayed in the Glendale type room and it was nicely appointed. The bed was very comfortable for a hotel room, although the couch was quite old. We had an enclosed balcony with a table where we had room service in the morning - it was very romantic. We had dinner at Duanes, and it was superb! Possibly the best filet mignon I have ever had. Although we did not get a chance to visit the spa, the spa lobby was very nice, and the prices were reasonable. Overall, I would recommend.

Told how great the accomodations were I thought I would stay. A very interesting historic building, nice grounds, patio dining, etc. How cute. Upon arriving in my room mid afternoon immediately noticed what a noisy room. I wondered if having a convention upstairs. After spending an hour trying to get the (not free) internet service working I said enough. I checked out and went to the Doubletree. Nice place to visit certainly won't stay there.

Awesome Hotel

My wife and I stayed at the Mission Inn over Easter weekend. We were in Riverside to attend my wife's Grandfathers funeral..The Inn was first class all the way, the history behind it amazed me... The rooms were clean and comfortable, the landscaping was beautiful.. Our stay was very good despite the circumstances, we were there for... Our hope is to stay at the inn in november again....

Great for groups

This beautiful historic hotel is geared for family and business groups. The lobby and restaurants are a bit too hectic for a single or couple looking for a quiet weekend getaway. Front desk staff are friendly and professional.

Second-class treatment

I reserved a room at the Mission Inn as a birthday present to my wife. Since the prices were somewhat cheaper, I booked on Expedia. For whatever reason, the individual at the front desk put my wife and I in a room that was directly above the dance hall. Apparently there was no insulation between, because we could barely hear ourselves think until a noisy wedding reception let out. Following that, the noisy Mission Inn employees kept me awake until the wee hours of the morning.

Glad we had a gift certificate

from BillFromSoCal
My wife and I used a gift certificate received as a wedding gift and tried out the "Historic" Mission Inn. Reading Trip Adv. reviews, we asked the desk clerk for a room away from where party-goers would be walking around late at night. She said we were already booked for a "Glenwood Room" on the 3rd floor....here we go: Room was outdated & stale, no screens on the swing-windows. Liter-size bottled water in the room was $6 ea. so we looked in the mini-bar for a smaller solution. Apparently previous visitors had the same idea as the bottle in the mini bar had already been opened, consumed, and replaced with tap water. I've never seen or even thought about this before -

O.K., to dinner....again, after reading reviews we picked Las Campanas, an outside restaurant adjacent to the lobby. Arriving well before the dinner crowd there were too many servers without enough to do. After spotting one of the waiters drinking from a water pitcher used for table refills (at least he used a straw), we watched as another male server gave a female server a neck massage....just before serving chips & salsa.

After dinner we tried drinks in the lobby next to the piano player who was pretty good-probably the high point of our trip to the Mission Inn. It's amazing how much closer you watch for things after reading Trip Adviser reviews....this "Historic" hotel is well set up for large wedding parties but for a weekend, find something else. You'll realize this when the desk clerk asks you to sign a $50 committment waiver when you first check in - if you don't like what you see and want to leave, you're in for $50. Glad we had a gift certificate.

Trouble in the kitchen

from Tineeric
Last year we chose the Mission Inn restaurant to celebrate a family birthday. Relatives came from far and wide. Upon arrival, we learned that our reservation for 9 had been "lost". We waited 45 minutes for a table. More mistakes were made. We received free deserts as compensation, and left more or less satisfied. This year we decided on a repeat visit. Our reservation was honored and the server arrived promptly. We naively joked about "no free deserts this year". More than 30 minutes after placing our order, two children in our group received their meals. They waited an uncomfortable 5 minutes or so before the rest of us insisted they begin. For the next 25 minutes, five of us gnawed on stale baguette while the two "lucky" ones finished their dinners. Finally, one hour after our order was placed the rest of us were served: Four room temperature steaks and one piping hot halibut filet. The server studiously avoided eye contact throughout the waiting process. When I finally flagged her to complain about the delay, the manager was summoned and told us that the two children's meals would be removed from the bill. When told later of the cold steaks, she upped the ante to two children's meals, two cold steaks and FREE DESERT! Where do they learn this bargaining technique? What is the value of a ruined family gathering? We skipped the desert and got out of there as fast as we could.

My recommendation: If you visit the Mission Inn, walk in the front door. Admire the carpet and its depictions of California's Missions. Look at the many unusual art and furniture objects scattered throughout the lobby. Then walk out the side door and go eat at Mario's Place across the street.

A Riverside Jewel

I just got home from a weekend away to the Mission Inn and in was wonderful. An afternoon at Kelly's Spa, was terrific and just what I needed. The staff is very friendly and is very professional. The Presidential Lounge was cozy, good food and cocktails. Dinner at Duanes Steak House was dexcellent with friendly service and fine dining. Sunday brunch was nothing less than exceptional. Great selection of seafood, omlettes, waffles , and roast beef. Yum!
The rooms are a roulette game, be careful when you book your room. Ours was very spacious for the basic room. It was almost a mini suite, however , we went with friends and they did not get so lucky. The hotel is beautiful. The grounds are very green and kept up nicely. The architecture at the hotel is very pretty and the lights there at Christmas time are percfect. It was pretty pricey however, it did seem worth the money for 24 hours of old world luxury.

Loved the lights

from jtooley
The light up the place with 1,000s of lights for the holidays. Its fantastic. Kids love it, and it makes it extremely fun.

We stayed in a huge room (actually 2 rooms) on the 2nd floor. It was really cool. I havent stayed any place like it. We were there for New Year's eve.

Service was great. We had room service in the morning. Perfect weekend.

If you love old world charm

We, too, being locals, like to stop at the Mission Inn on our way back from Cabazon. The couple from Fountain Valley probably made their mistake by going to the buffet instead of one of the other restaurants -- in my opinion, buffets are highly overrated and rarely interesting to begin with. We hit a good night - while there was much happening in and around the hotel because of pre-Halloween events, the Mexican restaurant on the patio was relatively quiet and the food was very good. If you're looking for a total Ritz Carlton experience, I'd think twice - this IS an old hotel - but the architecture is stunning, truly old California, and definitely worth seeing.

Top Local Tips for Riverside

places to visit If you are driving down to San Diego I would definetly recommend visiting the old town (especially the Olive oil store) and wine valley of Temecula

Savings on Food There are tons of inexpensive eateries near the entrance to UC Riverside on University. Most are chains but include good Mediterranean, a Coco's and I-Hop, a Cask and Cleaver for more upscale dining and about a dozen fast food outlets

NONE California Speedway
