spy no class
from BedBugginMy room was next door to the maintenance room which gave me the creeps. It felt like Norman Bates was watching my every move through a peep hole. I asked for another room and they said they were all booked, funny thing was there was the parking lot wasn't even full! The carpet stank because there was not enough circulation once you close the windows.
The only good thing about this place is the Spy Glass Restaurant, great place and good food. The pool area is nothing to brag about, its funny what a wide angle camera can do to place. It is also too close to the rooms so if you're hot and have to open the windows and the kids are at play in the pool, you'll never get any rest with all the noise next to you. If you want a little more class check in next door there's two over to the right heading north. It is much better with all the amenities gym, spa, hot tub and heated pool plus great happy hour at the bar and restaurant. They also have air conditioning ... !
I Liked It!!!
from royzee28All in all A very pleasant stay. After a long days drive we just wanted to chill out in the room @ night. I can recommend a visit to Alex's BBQ just along the road for a takeaway. An order of Clam Chowder, Ribs and Fries for one was more than enough for the two of us ( And I have a big appetite!!!) Not just quantity. the quality was A1! The restaurant was busy too with locals!
Pismo Beach is a beautiful little resort and the views over the cliffs, the pelicans and other seabirds, the sunsets are all fantastic and will remain a very pleasant memory for me.
As with all reviews you have to read into what you are looking for and for me and my lady the Spyglass hit the right buttons.
thinnest possible walls
from mistyhThey claim beach access is steps away when actually the beach access is two hotels over and about 1/2 mile away.
They also claim all rooms have a porch or balcony which is totally untrue.
The rooms have no air conditioning and very poor air circulation. Our room came with a ceiling fan and portable box fan, which we ran constantly.
I would never stay at this location again.
close to freeway no AC
from imbatmnNice overall
from odalbOkay.. smells old, not worth cost
from A TripAdvisor MemberOK Not Great
from Flyerno.oneOkay but a little overpriced
from PicarotaI would stay here again
from CSBSCYou have to keep in mind that between LA and SF, service is slow. Lacking might be a better word, and you have to take it into account. Or, drive to one of those larger cities and skip the central coast. Because if you are in any of these kind of locations, you have to have lowered expectations or you will have a heart attack over how slow things are.
Anyway, no one complained about the rooms, the ocean view rooms were nice. I know the other rooms were a bit noisy as they were closer to hwy 101.
The restaurant has excellent food. It is hard to find a place that serves a great breakfast, lunch and dinner, but I have eaten here many times (along with the groups that were with me) and they raved about the food.
The service in the restaurant is slow. If you are not in a hurry, it is worth the wait.
I would go here again.
No Customer Service!!!!
from Oceanview Please7/16/05 9:18am I made an online reservation, confirmation number #1###### for a two night dinner package. Upon receiving the confirmation I realized it was for a King Ocean view OR Traditional room. This was unacceptable as for us the Ocean View is more important than a $30.00 dinner savings.
I called the front desk of Spyglass Inn at 09:30am. I told the desk clerk (a female) what I had done and what I needed to do. She instructed me to go back on line, cancel the first reservation and rebook. That I did.
7/16/05 9:42am I canceled the first reservation, cancellation confirmation number #87#######.
7/16/05 9:56am Confirmed reservation number #1###### for Ocean View King room for 7/29 thru 7/31.
When we arrived at Spyglass Inn to our surprise we were informed by the young lady at the desk that we had no reservations. I don’t know who this young woman was but she was absolutely no help what so ever. She even stated that she didn't believe intrenet reservations were "Guaranteed ". If not for the young man on duty with her taking over, I’m not sure how much worse this would have been. He found the mistake made by their staff, and was very apologetic and at least tried to be helpful. He said he did have a room overlooking the parking lot and could move us into an Ocean View Queen the next day. He also said he had no authority to compensate us more than 20% without authorization from his manager who was off. It was getting late and we were worn out from our 5 ½ hour drive. I told him had I known that we would be staying in this substandard room we would have NOT made the trip. We agreed to take the room and address the problem with the manager in the morning.
Talking to the Manager the next day gave some but not much relief. He did manage to move us into an Ocean View King, but again stated he could not compensate us more than the approximately 25% (highest authorized on site management) of the first nights rate without contacting his general manager who was on vacation…
This is my position; I had a CONFIRMED RESERVATION with this Company guaranteed with my credit card. Had their employees not goofed up my reservations and had I not shown up, they would have charged me for one night stay as we had a contract.
As their employees were FULLY and TOTALLY RESPONSBIL for my reservations being lost/ignored I don’t believe it right being charged to stay in a room that I ordinarily would not have rented, and believe some compensation for the second night stay is in order for the inconvenience and quality time lost.
We had to contact their corporate office and were finial credited for our first nights stay, and 20% off the second.
Point being our weekend was ruined… discounted or not.
Top Local Tips for Pismo Beach
Alex BBQ Just down the street a ways is a fabulous BBQ restaurant. It is called Alex BBQ. My son and I had tri-tip sandwiches and my wife had ribs and a pulled pork sanwich. The beer battered onion rings were awesome.
Exploring Pismo Beach Main reason I choose Pismo Beach for my weekend getaway is because I wanted to go to Sycamore Hot Springs. I have been to Sycamore before but several years back. I did not find the hot tubs as nice as they once were, but still worth trying. For dinner we ate as Cracked Crab, the dinner was enjoyable. We paid like $48 dollars to split a bucket of crab and shrimp... And it was very messy which I thought was fun, good thing they give you bibs. The night scene in Pismo is strange. We stopped by Harrys Bar. First we had to pay a cover charge and the band was terrible. But the place was packed, unbelievably so, I assume because that is the only place in town to go. The crowd was so diverse, young and older people. The bartender makes a good martini...
kindof seedy not so much a good beach to plan a vacation around. Ok to visit though.
