Historical Traveller Reviews of Sandcastle Inn Hotel

Good location, needs updating

from None0
We stayed in Pismo Beach while travelling the PCH. Good location, right on a beautiful stretch of beach. We agree with other reviews, the hotel is getting worn a bit, needs updating. But our room was clean and had a nice balcony. The town is touristy. try the Cracked Crab for dinner, tasty and reasonable. We would stay there again but hopefully they will refurbish soon. Also, no pool just a hot tub.

very nice stay

I was a little intrepid staying near the beach by myself (on business), but found this Inn to be safe and just a great experience. The front desk folks were more than helpful and the cont. breakfast had something for everybody's tastes from fresh fruit, cereal, bagels to make-own waffles. Loved the fireplace at the entry to the can sit there and enjoy a book while gazing out at the ocean vista...incredible..Will return with my husband and kids.

Beautiful, Clean, Safe, Nice

I come to Pismo every year or so and recently decided to try the Sandcastle Inn because of its curb appeall. I was pleasantly surprised at this wonderful hotel. The staffing was friendly and corteous, the rooms, lobby, and outside areas were clean, well lit, and safe and the location is AMAZING! We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast with homemade waffes, and french toast, while sitting on an enclosed patio enjoying what I consider to be one of the best views of all the hotels in the area. The hotel is literally 2 minutes from the downtown Pismo Beach area and once we arrived we didnt have to drive anywhere to get what we wanted. I will never stay anywhere else on the central coast.

What a great place to escape to!

My wife and I stayed here for two days Sept. 15-16 and had one of the nicest experiences we've ever had. Third floor ocean front room was terrific with a stupendous view! Kept the balcony door open all night to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. Bliss. Debbie at the front desk took great care of us and all the employees were courtious and pleasant. The coffee (available all day in the lobby) is very good, and chocolate chip cookies are served in the afternoon! Continental breakfast is better then most with make it yourself waffles. The six person jacuzzi may seem a bit small, but there was never a problem while we were there. The beach is very clean, not very crowded and a great walk. Some wonderful resturaunts are close by (Steamers, a steak and fish place, is about ten blocks away, but do yourself a favor and walk it.) The town felt very low-key and safe at night.
We would absolutely recomend The Sandcastle Inn to family and friends for a weekend romantic getaway or family vacation.

Great for Families

from HermieNorthPole
Family of 5 enjoyed (boys 15, 13, 9) 2 nights at the Sandcastle while traveling San Diego to SF. Had planned on just 1 night, but enjoyed Pismo and beach/relaxed town/surfing so much decided to stay another night. Can't beat the location! Other properties we considered in the area (and stopped into/drove by) required driving into town and had no direct beach access. The Sandcastle is right on the beach. Convenience (and $ savings) of included breakfast for our family (always hungry boys) was great. Hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. Our room, suite 309, was large, comfortable, clean and our large balcony overlooked the pier, beach and coastline. If you can swing it, suggest staying in main building with beach view - secondary building off parking lot would not have provided same experience. May not be the best place for couples in the area -- but for families traveling to Pismo, can't imagine a better place to stay.

Relaxing Getaway

My family has stayed here several times over the past 6 or 7 years, and each time it gets better. This time, I was there by myself on a Monday night, staying in a 3rd-floor suite. The room was very nicely decorated, with a private balcony that had wonderful lounge-chairs on it, with a fantastic view of the ocean. Perhaps because it was a week-night, the atmosphere was very peaceful. No noise. The bed was comfortable and everything seemed clean and fresh. The staff was attentive and accommodating to me, and the breakfast was fine, with fruit, breads, juices, milk and make-your-own waffles, which is pretty typical for "continental breakfast" at a motel these days. There was coffee available all day long in the lobby, in addition to coffee in the room. As I had my own balcony, I didn't use the deck which was right next to my room, but it seemed like a very relaxing place to hang out, watch the ocean and have a cup of coffee if you didn't get a beach-front room. My one complaint about the room was the shower-head. It was very high up, and by the time the water got down to where I was, it was all fanned out and didn't have any power to it. Other than that, I was completely satisfied. I consider this a moderately-priced motel considering that it is in a popular, beach-front site.

Located right on the beach so great beach, boardwalk and pier access. Touristy shopping area reachable via boardwalk. Other than that, area surrounding the hotel was shabby. Great access to Hiway 101 & PCH.
Room we stayed in was decorated very nice but...... the room was tired. You can see rust and mineral deposits on the bathroom fixtures, mold in the tile surrounding the bathtub/shower combo. Our showerhead barely allowed any water to flow out. Bathroom was small and bathroom counter size did not allow for all of our toiletries to fit. Toilet flushed rather slowly and gave the impression that it was going to overflow with each flush. Sign in bathroom encouraging guests to re-use their towels and a sign at the bed announcing they would not replace the sheets daily unless we put the sign on the bed.
No air conditioning in room and no ceiling fan.
Continental breakfast was all breads (2 pastries, plain bagles, pre-made french toast, crossiants, make-your-own-waffles, coffee, orange & apples juice, bananas, apples & oranges).
We also had housekeeping knock on our door every morning early (8-9am) not sure why?
Room had a small counter with a sink, microwave, coffeemaker and a refrigerator that didn't keep anything cold.
Room was much smaller than what we were led to believe.
Expensive for what we received.

Comfortable beds, great breakfast, rundown environment

from A TripAdvisor Member
We booked a room including dinner on a Thursday ($138) through their online website. By their description, we expected a pleasant resort/inn of average size in a comfortable environment located on the beach. To our dissappointment, the inn is very small and cramped with no swimming pool. The jacuzzi and sun deck on the website description is very uninviting and small.

The inn itself does lie on the beachfront near the pier. However the neighbor surrounding the inn is very run-down which made me worry about neighborhood parking. Even the staff themselves are very rude and unaccommedating.

The room was nicely furnished, very comfortable and a decent size. Robes come with each room. There is no A/C but a ceiling fan suits the temperature.

Excellent clean rooms good location breakfast not great

from boatmusdir
Stayed here Feb 2005 en route from LA to San Francisco. Excellent spacious clean room - newly decorated it seemed. Hotel in excellent location overlooking beach. Breakfast not up to much - all prepackaged and lacking protein foods (just breads and flapjacks). Pismo Beach rather tawdry and lifeless at this time of year - hotel a haven of quality it seemed to us.

Beautiful beach and hotel

from leo8lion
I stayed here for 1 night in February. We had a ocean front room, and what a view! The beach area with the peir was like a post card. Unbelivable sunset. The room was very nice, beach colors and theme. The outside deck is nice with the jacuzzi, which we enjoyed at night. The fireplace in the lobby sitting area was great, very comforable feeling. I would recommend walking to Rosa's Italian Resturant, very good. Overall with 3 teenagers, a great stop along our road trip!

Top Local Tips for Pismo Beach

Great Pismo Beach Restaurants We ate at Pasta Bella, an Italian restaurant on Pomeroy Street, for dinner. It had a casual atmosphere and the food was very good and flavorful and it wasn't too expensive. (I recommend splitting the main entrees, they are pretty large). For breakfast, you have to stop at the Old West Bakery--their cinnamon rolls are delicious!!

rosas restaurant was very reasonable prices pismo beach, ca

wine industry Take advantage of the many wineries and wine tasting areas nearby
