Will stay here everytime in town!

from soontobeforty
We just returned from a 5 day stay at the BW Lighthouse visiting my brother in Pacifica. It was a beautiful and clean place. About 20 minutes from downtown, it was a world unto itself. Pacifica is cold in August - misty and beautiful. The BW Lighthouse staff was friendly, the restaurant had beautiful views and decent food if expensive. Since we hopefully will be visiting more often, I would always stay here. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub several nights and my boys loved the sauna. Our room was spacious though I booked ocean view and others have called it cove view (room 332). Our room had a small balcony and I left the door cracked to hear the ocean (which my husband complained he couldn't hear the tv over!) Very few complaints - front desk ran out of blankes and we did request maid service before 9:00 am and when we returned after 6:00 pm, our room had not been serviced, it was a Sunday...

Should be 4 diamonds, not 3!!

Right on the ocean, fell asleep with the patio door open and listened to the waves crashing on the shore all night long. Get a 3rd floor, oceanfront room to avoid prying eyes. The room and the bathroom were beautifully decorated, and very clean and comfortable.
The restaurant with its room service was delicious and offered both the usual and thankfully unusual breakfast choices.
I will most definitely return to this Best Western when I am in the San Francisco area!

Dream come true

I cannot say anything bad about the Best Western Lighthouse Hotel. Our room was clean, roomy, and VERY comfortable. I made the reservations on-line and had no problem getting what I reserved. I encountered nothing but friendly and courteous staff. The ocean view was SPECTACULAR! My dream before leaving California was to see the ocean by night and stay in a hotel where I could hear the waves making their beautiful music.

Without a doubt I would stay there again, and definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Right On The Beach

from couz_usa
We stayed at the Best Western Lighthouse Hotel in Pacifica Ca 7/19 thru 7/21/05. We had a "cove-view" room, just a stones throw from the beach. Room was clean and roomy. I found it odd however, they include only one bathrobe, even if you have a party of 2 or more.....Only 2 real complaints. We were on the second floor. You had to either go to the third floor or first floor for an ice machine which was inconvienent. Other complaint was, even with the sign hung on the door for 'maid-service' don't expect lightning speed. We hung the sign out at 09:00am and when we returned at 3:30 pm, our room had been by-passed for some reason. I had to hunt down house-cleaning and ask for the room to be made up. The resturaunt there is the "Portofino" (Italian). It apparently about a year ago was known as the MoonRaker Resturaunt, but no more. Hotel has not even changed the signs in the corridors to reflect the new name, nor the little brochures in the rooms.Food was OK, but pricey.... Located along the beach with shops very close by. If you go on a Monday or Tuesday, don't expect very many of the shops to be open. And when they do open, it's a hit or miss as to "when" they are open. Most of the parking is underground, with only a handful of parking spaces not being covered. But, if you like the sound of the surf, get a "cove-view" room. Quite tranquil....

AWESOME

Surf right off the balcony ( which was huge). Its a great small place away from busy San Fran. The restaurant was nothing to brag about food wise ( but it wasn't bad) but the VIEW....wow. I live on the coast, but this area and hotel took my breathe away. I would refer it to anyone!

Ok hotel with nice views, horrible restaurant

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here for a weekend in December and the hotel was ok. The rooms were nice enough, and it was relaxing to listen to the ocean waves at night. You're right on the ocean so the view is really pretty. We were disappointed at the lack of continental breakfast. We had dinner one night at their Ristorante Portofino in the hotel, and it was a horrible experience. The food was way overpriced (and the servings were merely adequate) and the service was pathetic. Would stay at the hotel again (bring back the breakfast!) but would never eat at that restaurant again.

Relatively inexpensive ocean front

from baseballfantoo
We visited the San Francisco area in July, 2004 and wanted to spend one night directly on the ocean. We did have a limited view from our room, but mostly enjoyed walking on the basically deserted beach. The hotel is nothing special, but significantly less expensive than any other ocean property. Besides the hotel restaurant, there are only a few shops and a coffee shop within walking distance.

t recommend it

Pros:
1) Nice size room - Good size room with a fridge.
2) Ocean view - We got a room on the 4th floor with a "partial" ocean view. We could see the ocean but not the beach (blocked by hotel), still, it wasn't bad.
3) Lots of free parking - Not too far from city of SF where most hotels charge for parking (up to $45/day).

Cons:
1) Not very friendly staff - They weren't rude but always got the impression that we were bothering them.
2) Lost my towel - Housekeeping took it by mistake which in an of itself is not a big issue but they made no effort whatsoever to recover it. I kept checking and was told to check with housekeeping directly during specific hours. Still don't have it.
3) NO A/C - The rooms have no A/C, only heating. Every night we come back to the room and it is 80+ degrees. The only way to cool the room down is to open the balcony door. The balconies themselves are not private, it doesn't take much to walk across the balcony of another unit if you wanted to. Couldn't leave the balcony door open during the night and it got pretty stuffy in the morning.

Bottomline: I wouldn't recommend it.

Pleasant stay in Pacifica

Just returned from a weekend here with my wife, and enjoyed the Lighthouse Inn. Great ocean-view room, good service from desk & housekeeping. Very good for a Best Western, I'd say.

Lighthouse hotel: beware when making reservations

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Lighthouse Hotel for 2 nights. The room was very clean, but I had problems with the reservation desk. When we arrived, there was a mix up with the reservations which ultimately ended up with me paying twice the amount I thought I was paying. When I called accounts payable later to see if I could recover at least part of the payment through AAA, I was told - sorry, you should have taken care of everything when it happened. The person at the reservations desk was obviously new. I learned a lesson - always be exactly specific when reserving a room because the reservationist may not be as helpful as you would like.

Top Local Tips for Pacifica

The Lighthouse Best Western Perfect writing spot or catching up with stuff week-end. Not too many distractions, except the great beach, the food is good and the guitar player entertainer has a huge repertoire. There's also dancing at the bar accross the street. I was able to do my work during the day and kick back and relax at night plus enjoy an early walk on the beach without ever moving the car.

Lighthouse hostel near Half Moon Bay Good price, very pretty, with a nice garden and hiking areas along its sides.

Time in the city area of San Francisco Leave your vehicle at the hotel and use the reccommendation of the hotel on where to catch Bart. The parking garage at the Bart location did not charge for parking. It's close and seems very safe. When you get into the city buy a day or multi-day pass for Public Transprotation. It appears it will get you any where you want and give you the cable car ride with the pass.
