Quite Comfortable

from A TripAdvisor Member
I often stay at this hotel for business trips. It's a great hotel for extended stays since the rooms are large and offer a small refrigerator and microwave. The breakfast buffet has an awesome selection of food. I've had mixed experiences with the staff at check-in with some of the staff not being overly friendly, but overall the service is good. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and since it is right on the ocean it's great for taking walks along the beach.

Excellent

Every year, my dad's company goes on vacation for Memorial Day Weekend. Last year was a cruise boat, and I wondered how they were going to top it. Embassy Suites Mandalay Bay did the job. I had a lot of problems there, but for some strange reason, it was still very fun and exciting. The beach was beautiful. Even though it was extremely cold while I was staying at the beach, I couldn't resist playing in the waves. The pool was nice, especially since it was heated. I had a great time in the jacuzzi as well. Beware the fitness room! Don't set the treadmill to the highest speed. I tripped and scraped both my knees and still have trouble walking. The food was great. Try the Chef Boyardee at the Gift Shop. As for the rooms, they are very spacious. Two rooms, two bathrooms, two TV's, a balcony, a mini fridge, a microwave, and a dining table. Definitely suite material. I'd go here again once my knee heals.

Just Wonderful....

As a special treat my family (husband and two boys age3 and 8) and I decided to stay at this hotel one Saturday in early May. Although we once stayed here many many moons ago (about 14 years worth) I was a little worried because of the negative reviews. I was going mainly for the location so I figured how bad could it be? Not only were the reviews wrong but this hotel was more than expected. The drive from Los Angeles through the 118 fwy was beautiful... all farmland. It felt like we were no longer in L.A. Everything else from that point forward was wonderful too; the drive up to this beautiful hotel, the grand foyer was huge, comfortable and just lovely. The staff checking us in was extremely curtious and even made my kids feel welcomed. We checked in around 5pm on Saturday and we did not have to wait in line. The room was just what we requested, on the first floor by the pool. The 2 room suite had all the amenities and was very clean. The bathrooms had marble and were very big. The livingroom sliders opened to a small patio with table and chairs right by the pool. The pool was heated in May! Not all hotels will do that! Our room was also just 1/2 a minutes walk to the beach. The beach has a walkway that you can enjoy with rollerblades or rent these fun surreys at a little hut by the pool. We ordered room service that night which was wonderful and convenient. My husband and I slept in the bedroom, the kids on the sofa sleeper which they loved. We each had our own TV and our own bathroom. We had the free made to order breakfast at 7:30 the next morning... make your own waffles (fun) and yummy omelets made by smiling cooks! Plus lots of other stuff, we had no problem getting seconds. We enjoyed the beach and the pool the night before and that morning after breakfast. The room, staff, location and food was wonderful. Are we just lucky or the other reviewers extremely picky? When we checked out (also no waiting) we asked if we could take a peek at the presidential room... they quickly gave us a private tour. Although beyond our budget ($600/night), it was fun to see. The bellman said that even though it says it sleeps four, many families come with sleeping bags and air matresses. It was HUGE. Overall our stay was just wonderful.

R

The Embassy Suites Hotel Mandaly Beach Resort in Oxnard is a great place for a quick R & R or a weekend getaway. The hotel is away from any hustle and bustle of a city life, and one can get a complete recovery from the insanity of a chaotic day-to-day life.

The hotel is located in the beach area, where one can swin, surf, or rent a bike for a few hours. The parking lot of the hotel is right underneath your building since each building is color-coded in the parking lot.

The room that we reserved was more than we have expected. All the rooms comes with 2 bathrooms with a double sink on one of them. The room also has a queen-size sofa bed. Each room also comes with a refrigerator, microwave, and sink. There are two television in the room, and one can purchase top Hollywood Hits on their own room.

The breakfast buffet is adequate and plentiful. You could even order your omellete or make your own waffle. They also serve cocktails at night time.

The hotel also has a workout room and a spa - not a huge spa, but good enough to release your stress. There's a restaurant in the hotel that serves Sunday brunches.

Overall, this hotel will help you relax and enjoy some good R & R.

I get tired of reading these review for places like the Ritz and hearing who must be absolutely stuck up, detached, snobs complain about the sheets not being 1000 thread count, streaks on the mirror from cleaning, etc... But this place really was a dive. I should have known when I reserved the room and they told me it was "Non refundable effective immediately". It looks like it was really nice about 30 years ago. And they are really trying hard to update the place but it turned out looking like my Grandma and Ricky Ricardo got together to design the rooms. One nice thing: Location. It couldnt be in a better spot. However, they should have bulldozed the place and built something nice instead of trying to put makeup on a peice of poo.

I will list the bad things:Ready?

1.Room smelled like paint
2.Room missing door handles
3.Birds, yes birds in the breakfast/dumpy pool hall/arcade area
4.Pricey restaurant filled with loud drunk middle aged people. (I realize this one might be a positive to some travellers)
5.Vending machines broken
6.No internet.
7.Hard bed
8.And all this for the low low price of $250

Overall it kinda felt like you were staying at Magic Mountain. (Santa Barbara type Spanish styling but kinda trashy). But it was better than sleeping in the dirt so I'll give it two dots.

Great Getaway

We came up to visit some friends and found this place to be great. The closeness to the beach was perfect. The hotel staff was exceptionable (thank you Lauren).Having a coffee maker in room with a fridge and microwave made it easy to fix our own things instead of having to go out. There might not be much to do in Oxnard but this made it very relaxing for a getaway.

Our favorite family getaway

We discovered this gem last summer and have returned twice since. The location (right on the beach) is fabulous, but our toddler was especially enamored with the pool and all the waterfalls & bridges in the lovely garden. The two-room suites are a godsend to parents who want a chance to stay up late watching TV and eating room service while their children snooze away in another room. The made-to-order, included breakfasts are terrific and it's wonderful not to have to leave the property--there's plenty to do on site. (Which is good, because other than the harbor, we haven't found much to do in Oxnard itself...nearby Ventura, Ojai or Santa Barbara are good day trips, though, or you can check out the premium outlet center in Camarillo if you're into shopping.) It's true that in summer the place is overrun with kids, which would have been more a deterrent to us when we were childless than it is now. We've had no problems with the maintenance or condition of our rooms--everything has been clean and in good repair. The oceanfront rooms are great, but if you're looking to save a little money and have a quieter experience, request a room in the building near the tennis courts.

Good Beach Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
I chose this hotel for the beach location. The beach was great, but the hotel really needs renovation. The bathrooms appeared to be recently renovated. But, the furniture, carpeting, painting, light fixtures, etc. all need to be updated. The hotel did not live up to the standards of other Embassy Suites hotels that we have visited. Also, both the front desk and concierge recommended a restaurant that was an absolute waste of money. The beach location was the only good recommendation that I have for the property.

great spot

from SierraMadreMember
We love this place, have been going a couple of times a year since 2000. Go for the ocean view and it will feel like your miles away. Price is justifiable if you take advantage of breakfast and reception, plus you're on the ocean. Rooms are in need of upgrading; furniture, carpet, bedding but anytime we have been disappointed they have moved us and without any problem.

Great, just too crowded

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is beautiful, the grounds tropical and relaxing, and the beach is in view of the hotel. The pool area is a nice size, with great service. Prior to leaving, we read the reviews about so many children being at the hotel. This is an understatement, by far. If you are looking for a great hotel with nice accomodations, this is the place. If you are looking for privacy on the beach, you'll have plenty. The deep sand makes getting to the water difficult with little ones or adults not in the best of shape. The ocean looks brown, and low tide reveals stones, not seashells. The crowds around the pool make it impossible to relax by the pool. The masses of families with children and conference attendees make the free breakfast and cocktails a challenge, at best. (Don't get up for extra fruit, as the waiters are quick and will clear and clean your table prior to your return!) The cooks are excellent at breakfast -- managing to smile and accomodate special orders in spite of the long lines and screaming children.

Top Local Tips for Oxnard

Not far from Ventura Although we have not found Oxnard to be a hot spot of dining, we have enjoyed the easy access to downtown Ventura, just about 7-10 miles north of this hotel. Also check out options at Ventura Harbor, south of Downtown Ventura.

Channel Islands Tour We ahd a wonderful time touring the Channel Islands. We went to Anacapa which is the closest channel island to the mainland. It really is amazing to be so close to civilization yet be on this island with just your tour group and nothing else on it.

better spent dont waste your money at this property, there is much better out there!!
