good spot for Yosemite

We stayed here for one night so we could visit Yosemite National Park.Through the Best Western website I got a best rate of 65.95 a night plus tax.The room was one of the biggest on our tour around california,nevada and arizona.It was the last motel on highway 41 towards Yosemite.We had 2 double beds.The bathroom was a fantastic size.The room had a fridge and microwave which was a great plus for us.I dont understand the concept in Usa with most hotels and motels not providing a fridge.We loved the area around Oakhurst and Mariposa so if you dont want to stay right in Yosemite park I would thoroughly recommend this property.The front desk staff are a bit reserved but the check in and out process was quick.

Nice rooms, Comfortable accommodation

We stayed here after leaving Yosemite park. The drive from the park to Oakhurst, via Mariposa Grove, was quite challenging so we were pleased that we decided to enter Yosemite by the East and only exit by the South instead of the other way around. This motel was a pleasant surprise after our previous accommodation in Mariposa. We had not expected much from reading previous reviews but we enjoyed our stay and had a really good night's sleep. We had breakfast at the restaurant, although I do agree with a previous writer that it is nothing special. Our room was spacious, modern, comfortable, clean and tidy. The motel has beautiful grounds with lots of flowers & shrubs, so it looks quite appealing. Although it is pet-friendly we did not encounter any pets. We had no issues at all and would definitely stay there again.

Decent budget hotel near Yosemite

We stayed here after 4 nights in a cabin in Yosemite. The room was clean and tidy (if a little dated with it's Spanish themed furniture). Aircon, hot water etc worked fine. The complex is huge with rooms sprawling a long way back. There was a pool and spa but we did not use them.

We did hear some partying from the room above but suspect it may have been due to over enthusiatic occupants rather than the thickness of the ceiling. It didn't bother us once we went to sleep.

I agree that the woman at the desk was a little curt but as the only time we saw her was checking in and out, I wasn't too bothered.

Don't bother with the restuarant as it is over priced and has delusions of grandeur. There are plenty of places to eat, close by.

Would certainly recommend this as a springboard into Yosemite or on the way back out (as we did).

Beautiful Rustic Charm

This hotel is in a beautiful setting that is uses to its advantage. The suite we were in was older but very nice. It had two sleeping areas that were divided by a closed door on each side of the bathroom. The rooms are in several buildings that are spread out on the tree lined hill that our balcony overlooked. We got in late and had to leave fairly early. I wish we could have had stayed longer at this wonderful hotel.

Alluring prices, but better off elsewhere

Previous reviews seemed good, but staying at the hotel was another story. Our stay began 12/31/2004 until 01/02/2005.

From their website, the rooms should have had refrigerators and microwaves, but when we arrived, we were told that they were "out" of those rooms. Front desk was terribly rude and inconsiderate. They did not have our reservations listed in their computer, luckily we brought proof of reservations (still waited in the lobby for an hour and a half for them to verify our reservations).

After our reservations were verified, we were sent to a nicely decorated room at first glance, but the tv was fuzzy on most channels, the hairdryer never worked and the water pressure was really low. Of course we asked for another room, but they were "out" of those also, but they offered us 10% off of breakfast at the restaurant next door. Not knowing the area, we decided to make the best of it by rarely returning.

Also, the indoor pool that they advertise is nothing more than a shack with a green colored pond in it. They also allow pets to stay, so unless you're a fan of kennel noise, don't bother booking at this hotel.

Real Nice place, I would recommend to others, our small pet stayed with us for free, right in the middle of town and convenient to Yosemite and other mountain towns

Mediocre at best

This was the hotel that was booked through Yosemite. I thought the rate of $111 was very high for a Best Western. Upon arrival, the staff was rude and the room was old & stuffy. A/C was not great, but also poorly designed so most of it blew up the curtains, not out into the room. Ate at the Japanese restaurant in town and sat for 30 min before even getting water. Next morning, ate at the restaurant next to the property and had same experience! Doesn't anyone in Oakhurst know the meaning of "SERVICE"??? Low point of my trip to California. Yosemite, however, was magnificent.

Great for lake access, but not Yosemite

This hotel was fine to stay in if you are going fishing but if you are looking to stay close to yosemite, book ahead and stay in the park. It is a good 90 minutes to get to the main area of the park. This is fine but we like to hike a bit and after 6 hours of hiking, you don't want to drive an hour. The staff were pleasant enough but nothing over the top.

Good hotel and location, rude and unhelpful staff

Recently my family and I tavelled up to Yosemite on a once in a life time family trip and stayed at the Best Western, Yosemite Gateway Inn. I had booked 2 rooms in advance (3 months earlier) and received a confirmation from Best Western International. Armed with this reservation, the five of us (all adults) arrived late in the evening at the Inn and I presented my reservation. The lady at the counter did not welcome us with a smile as one would expect in the hospitality business. Instead, she took our reservation form and informed us that we were not on the system. Neither she nor her partner acknowledged us, choosing instead to confer away from the front desk while we pateintly (including my parents who are in their eighties)waited. We were stunned to find that a recently fired employee had made a mistake in our reservation and she expected us to understand and accept that fact without so much as an apology. Of course, for that night they offered to put all 5 adults in a room but made no promises for the next two nights. Once again, this was delivered without any pleasantness or any apologies.

At this point my brother, who is an orthopedic surgeon and had come all the way from London, stepped in and decided to be firm with them (as opposed to my gentle way of dealing with them). It was only then that they reluctantly talked to the manager who offered to compensate us for the room for one night and move us into two rooms the next day. The rooms were very nice as was the setting although the first night was very tough with 5 tired people sharing one room and one bathroom. When I checked out, I was charged the same rate for the two rooms although the rates had been different when I reserved them. When I pointed that out, there was no apology, just a comment, "I'll have to do them all over again" as if it was my fault! Finally, I would have expected a pleasant goodbye and apology for having messed up our reservations. Neither was forthcoming. All throughout, we were treated by the counter staff like a problem rather than valued customers. Once again, I would like to compliment the manager for attempting to resolve the situation fairly but boy, do the counter staff need lots of training in courtesy and customer service!

Great Motel in a Great Little Town

My wife and I absolutely loved this motel -- friendly staff and a nice, woodsy setting made our stay rather enjoyable. Our room was large and well furnished, and we appreciated the fridge and microwave -- we bought our own breakfast at one of the supermarkets nearby and heated it up in the microwave in the morning. Although I've seen other reviewers complain about the distance from Yosemite, it is one of the closest places to stay without staying directly in the park. For dinner, Ducey's in nearby Bass Lake (15 min. drive from Oakhurst) has great outdoor seating with great views of the lake.

We'd recommend this motel to anybody!

Bass Lake go see Bass Lake. It is very close and beautiful. Take some food and just relax there after a long day in Yosemite.

Todd's Barbeque If you looking for a great dinner in Oakhurst, try Todd's Barbeque on Hwy 41. It is close to hotels and the food is outstanding. Prices are very reasonable and service is great!! Easily some of the best barbeque on the west coast (and we've been to a bunch of barbeque restaurants!).

good for overnight if you want base to travel into park maybe consider stopping a little closer to park.
