We got an ocean-side room. The hotel lobby was a bit smaller than I'm used to but the room itself was very luxurious. The nice thing about our room was that it had a bench by the window and we were able to sit there with the windows open and just listen to the ocean waves.
Unfortunately the beach itself left much to be desired.

Top Local Tips for Monterey

Point Lobos State Reserve Everybody that goes to Monterey is all about the aquarium and Cannery Row. If you are willing to drive 8 miles south of Monterey you can go to Point Lobos State Reserve which is a really nice place. Its right off of Highway 1 so you just hop on and off the highway, no detailed directions! There is also the 18-mile drive which goes through the world famous Pebble Beach.

Willy's Smokehouse Not that BBQ is really what I wanted to eat, as we can get that just about anywhere, this place was a diamond in the rough! The food was outstanding, and the service as well!

Monterey Bay Aquarium Without a doubt this is a beautiful, hands on aquarium for all ages. My children who range from 8-25 still learn something new each time we visit and still and enjoy attending the aquarium. We have been going to the aquarium since it first opened and love it!
