Very clean and neat; nicely decorated; If I remember correctly there was no AC. We opened sliding door and bathroom window. The bathroom was like new.

Wonderful experience

This hotel we found on Hotwire. What a pleasant surprise. The first room they gave us was fair, but over the lobby so noisy. We asked to be moved and got a room with a fireplace and it was beautiful. We ate in the restaurant and had a superb meal. Everything we ordered was wonderful and inexpensive. This hotel capped off a beautiful day. Service was appropriate to a 4 star hotel.

We stayed in the newly renovated area of the hotel. The first room we were given was noisier than we wanted (overlooked a busy intersection) but we were given another room that was very quiet although looked over a roof of a neighboring vehicle dealership.
The room itself was very nice - well decorated, flat-screen TV, large and comfortable bed. The bathroom was also very nicely done with a really huge shower.
The continental breakfast was very good and fairly reasonable at $8.
Staff were professional and courteous.
The hotel is located within walking distance of downtown Monterey and the Fisherman's Wharf and is a short drive to Cannery Row.

The hotel is wonderfully placed in Monterey...close enough to walk to the Wharf, but not too close.
The room was very nice and the bed was excellent. We would definitely stay there again.

The hote is beautiful, apparently it was enovated 5 weeks ago and they did a wonderful job. The rooms are a nice size, pretty,clean, and comfortable. the staff are friendly and every day we were given treats, such as cookies, wine and chocolates delivered to our room. The location is very convenient to the trolley, Fisherman's Wharf and the auarium. I would be giving this hotel a 5 star rating, if unfortunately my child did not get sick during our stay. This is the real test of customer service and the hotel did not perform well. She became sick during the middle of the night and we needed a change of bedding. There was noone from housekeeping and a security man was sent who did hes best trying to locate what we needed. OUr plan had been to check out the following morning to participate in an overnight program at the aquarium. When I called the desk to ask if a room was available because my child was too ill to check out, but the rate would be over $400 for the night. My husband went to speak with them to explain our situation. He asked to speak to the manager, but instead the desk clerk kept going to the back to consult with her. They said that the best they could do was $369 for the night, the rate we were paying. This was far more than we had budgeted for, but we felt that moving our sick child and trying to find an available hotel room in another location was not an option. She luckily recovered the next day and when we returned to the hotel for one last night, the clerk adjusted our rate in half because he said he realized that our child really was ill. That was a very nice gesture, it's too bad that they didn't make it initially, instead of causing us more anxiety in what was already a stressful stiuation.

Hotel Abrego saved your vacation

Rented housing over the interent sight unseen. It was not the stanards I wanted for my getaway weekend. I got the phone book and called the Hotel Abrego recommened by a friend. We went and check it out. It was the most beautiful room and just what I wanted for my getaway. It was relaxing, walking distance to most events and if it was'nt there was the trolley. I want to thank everyone who made this so special for us and especially Eric.

ROACHES!

I'm not a difficult traveler or easy to please. However, I have several complaints about this hotel. First, they advertise WIFI. I was unable to access the internet due to "no signal." Second, I killed two roaches that were in the bathmat. Third, when checking out I told the three staff at the check-out desk about the roaches. I was met with three "knowing" glances. No surprise, no customer service, nothing. I was then told, "We will notify maintence." I understood that this hotel was refurbished. The furniture in my room was tired, the curtains had holes and I had to place a towel over the desk chair (which was era 1975) before I dared to sit in it. I would not recomend or stay at this hotel again.

We appreciate the guests’ comments. The Hotel Abrego opened on July 1, 2009 having completed 70% of a major renovation. The first phase included adding thirty new guest rooms and renovating thirty of the remaining sixty guest rooms. Phase I also completed building a new lobby, lounge and meeting space, as well as renovating the exterior of the hotel. The remaining thirty rooms will be renovated this winter. This particular guest appears to have been assigned a non-renovated room. Without knowing how the guest booked the reservation it is difficult to fully research. However, guests booking directly through the website or calling in directly to the property are able to know if they will be assigned a renovated room. We have also shared the guest’s comments with the company used to provide a monthly pest control program for the property. Again, we thank the guest for their valuable feedback.

unprepared and overwhelmed staff

The room was very comfortable and the bathroom had modern appliances and feel. The room was very clean and comfortable. The front desk staff on the other hand was very unhelpful. I made the reservation because of a couple of factors, one was because the website said the deluxe king room included bath robes. I checked in and noticed none were in the room. So I called the front desk and inquired if I they could bring me some. The person at the front desk said they would call me back. I gave them a call back 15 minutes later and he said the staff would bring them soon. They never came, and after dinner I stopped by the front desk asking if I they were still going to arrive. The person at the front desk then told me they have no cotton robes. I told him I saw the description on the website and he said, "The website does not say that." I logged onto the internet and the description listed cotton robes. I showed him the website and he said the website had not been updated yet and he would tell his manager to update it. I asked him why he never called me back to tell me that, he said the person responsible for bringing the robes had a bad back. The front desk staff was completely overwhelmed and unprepared. The room also had no hotel information pamphlet. And when I checked out I told a different person at the front desk my stay was "OK", there was no response, just "thanks for staying with us." There was no attempt to figure out what was wrong with my stay. I will never stay at this hotel again, or under any hotel under this same management company.

Excellent hotel, very nice recent renovation. Family friendly. In room wifi connection worked perfectly. Refrigerators in room. Very quiet. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Would stay again.

We loved the classic modern design and spacious room. We stayed in a deluxe king with a fireplace and it was fantastic. Great service. It was a great deal for the area. Overall, loved our experience and would stay there again. We wish that there were more food options in the hotel, but honestly, lots of places to eat nearby and very close proximity to all the Monterey favorites!

Excellent renovation

We had a great stay at this renovated hotel. The staff were excellent and friendly. We were in a renovated room which was lovely with a large flat screen tv and a gas operated fireplace that also served as the heater for the room. I would definitely stay here again.
While the hotel is not next to any of the many attractions, it is very close and the room rates are an excellent value.
