Was I wrong!

For the price I guess one should not complain BUT the Westin SF Airport was a big disappointment. The front desk confused my reservation with my brother in law's plus and they were never able to resolve it! At 4:30 in the morning my brother in law was still trying to explain there were two families not three. The lobby area looks quite nice but the rooms are run down. The carpet was dirty, furniture looking old and my cardinal sin- there was mildew on the groat between the tiles. Although we were told we would not hear the planes- we did and the building shook as the planes passed by! There were other choices near the airport but knowing it was a Westin I thought it would be superior to the other hotels. Was I wrong!

Could have stayed in a newer hotel down the street for less

They charged extra for parking even though out of the city which was a shock. The rooms were extremely crowded and hardly any room to open your suitcases. The checkin was frustrating esp. with the parking charges. Weekend special rate was nice but the rates skyrocketed after the weekend. The whirlpool had a black ring around it. The lobby was not very attractive for a remodeled hotel. I think that it was overrated, there was a hotel down the street that was brand new for $20 less a night with the same rating. The room views were not good. I stayed in Westin in Chicago-Airport and loved it-- a few years ago. There the view was not that great either but we were treated like royalty and there was a wonderful breakfast buffet "to die for" ...no comparison.

Stayed one night July 4, 2005 with spouse and toddler. Booked room at Starwood for $99. Parking is $14 - there are no street parking options.

Basics:

Room was clean and functional, with triple paned windows so that airport/highway noise was not an issue. Room felt a little worn, but the sheets/towels/carpet/furniture/bath were very clean and comfortable. Room also had one bottle water and two packets starbucks coffee, free.
However the room was not that big, and if we stayed here more than one night with our 2-year old, it would have been difficult to manage. The king bed was nice, but not as "heavenly" as we expect from Westin. The AC system was quiet and easy to control, with digital readout.

Other stuff:

Housekeeping was terrific - they provided a crib and when we asked for an extra comforter to line the crib, it was brought immediately. Very friendly and thoughtful staff all around.

The area is GREAT for travellers who like to jog, as a trail along SF Bay is steps outside the front door. I saw a lot of people using the trail in the AM.

The best view is of the airport - from the front of the hotel (northerly view) one can watch the planes taking off, which kids just love. We had a southerly view, which was a view of an industrial area, although we could see planes making their approach to the airport.

Overall, a nice and quiet business hotel with friendly & efficient staff, convenient access to the airport, and a pleasant pool/jacuzzi area.

Good Hotel, definitely a Westin

Prebooked the Westin SFO so tht we could decamp to a local hotel after a long 9 hour intercontinental fligh from London. Prebooked via the web for $230 for larger bay view room.

Having stayed in a few other Westins, this is definitely one of theirs where we found the sevice to be good, rooms well appointed and lots of good additional facilities (e.g. pool and good airport shuttle connection)

We purposely did not book a room for the last night of our 10 day California getaway so that we could choose another hotel close to the airport when we were due to fly out fom SFO if we did not like what we got at the start of the holiday.

We rebooked the Westin again. This reinforces how we felt about this hotel.

Great pool, but not a Westin

We stayed here because I usually love Westin and their heavenly set up of the rooms, beds and bathrooms. This was all there, but all left back in the eighties. I asked a room on the highest floor, which they honored, 746. Great ceiling! There must have been a leak of somekind, because the ceiling wasen't there anymore on some parts. Strange thing was that it was such a big stain, but they didn't even block the room for use, or at least try too cover the stain (and I'm talking wall to wall stain) We went down to change our room and the lady at reception acted as if she didn't know what we were talking about. But she did put us in a room with airport/bayview. That was nice to see the planes go by, but the noisy planes tend to be heard during the stay. So if you want a quiet room ask one on the other side. That said the rooms where very sound tight, we stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Burlingame and they didn't have soundproofing at all!
All in all this hotel is not a Westin property at all, though the staff are nice enough, they just don't do enough to give you the Westin feel. Good location, great shuttle every 15 minutes, though they ran late very often, fortunately they all ran late so the max 15 minute wait was the same. Don't even try and pay more than 99 dollars for this property and if they try and ask you for 30 dollars more for a view room (bayview is a bit far of, as the bay is not in view if its shallow water) dont do it, its not worth it. Go to their own website, the starwood website (189 dollars) doesnt do as good as deal as they do (the 99 bucks). Stay here one night and you'll be fine, 2 tops.

We had excellent service at this Westin. And I'm guessing it may have been renovated since some of these reviews - our room was quite nice. I agree with the comment that it's amazing how quiet the hotel is given how close the planes are.

My one complaint is that when we asked about how to get to Hertz we were told the shuttle would take us. They took us - to the United terminal. We had to walk thorugh the terminal, and take another shuttle. Had we known, we would have gotten a cab.

I stayed at the Westin SFO hotel for one night on business. It is quite nice.

This hotel is perfect for a stay close to the airport. The rooms were mostly quiet, and there was shuttle service roughly every 20 minutes.

The staff were friendly. The room was very nice. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very good. The food at the bar was reasonably priced. The workout facilities were OK, I seen better ones at other Westins.

The only negative I encountered is that they wanted to charge $16.95 for high speed internet access, insane!

I would stay here again

I am shocked at the reviews I have just read. This Hotel is wonderful! I have stayed in many hotels in this area and the Westin by far is the best. The service is outstanding, the rooms are beautiful, and the heavenly bed is great. These rooms have triple-paned windows! I was completely fascinated that I could watch the huge planes take off and land and not hear one sound! Amazing! The staff is great!! They are very friendly and helpful!! I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone! Don’t listen to the other reviews; clearly these people don’t travel very often!!

Heavenly Bed--Not and No food for Vegetarians

I stayed at this hotel for five nights and it was the worst experience of all of my travels. First, the restaurant and food service had only one vegetarian entrees. This was horrifying, (and unbelievable in California) especially since I was traveling with my young children who are also vegetarians.

Secondly, I found the heavenly bed to be impossible for sleeping. The bottom sheet was not fitted and so through-out the night it was impossible to rest because I was constantly trying to keep the sheets on the bed.

The only good thing about the hotel was the staff; especially the doormen Troy and Rolando. They really helped me to survive the dietary ordeal by locating vegetarian restaurants or establishments that served veggie food.

Come on Westin...It's 2005. What upscale hotel isn't able to accomodate diverse dietary choices?

Very Surprised

I'm stunned at some of these reviews. This is my hotel when I travel to San Francisco. I can get downtown in 30 minutes, which is fine by me. The rooms are clean and quiet. The beds are heavenly. The restaurant was fantastic. I'm really sorry to hear that other people had problems. When my wife and I were in China doing an adoption and sleeping on HARD Chinese beds, I kept telling her that there was light at the end of the tunnel. We were going to lay over on the way home at the Westin SFO. After a 28 hour journey, we crashed out like we've never crashed out before. The staff was great. Helped with the luggage and getting the crib set up. And dinner that night was delicious.

Top Local Tips for Millbrae

Getting around We were on our last day of vacation and had been in the California Wine Country for most of the trip. We decided to go into the city that day to meet friends for lunch at one of the piers. I definitely recommend taking the BART to and from the airport and then using the hotel shuttle.

Getting downtown to San Francisco The Bart is the best way to get there - don't take a car unless you want to spend a lot on parking. Also, if you are going downtown, get a MUNI pass. This allows you unlimited trips on cable cars, caltrain, buses, trolley cars in the SF area, available for 1, 3 and 7 days. Get the BART in and then hop on and off the public transport system to get around.
