Tired old hotel

We stayed in a chalet, not the main hotel which from other reviews seems to have noise problems. The hotel is conveniently situated for the marina and Venice beach and is pleasant but old and in need of a revamp.
The pool was dirty and it was not a pleasant experience swimming in it. The housekeeping is excellent but really the maids are fighting against all odds. We were booked for 4 days but checked out after 2 to get a more cost-effective hotel in Hollywood.

only stay if you are desperate

Positive: Location and that's it!

Negative: Air conditioning was broken, room was stifling. I complained several times and wanted my room switched, they did not accomodate me. I slept very little, the mattress was very old, walls were thin, to sum it all up YUCK! Find somewhere else if possible!

New ownership has its work cut out for it!!

The Marina International claims to be in a "transitional phase" (new ownership is imminent) and thus our stay was very rocky...e.g.-the phone system was down, the air conditioning system was erratic, and worse of all...THE BAR WAS CLOSED FOR OUR ENTIRE STAY!!

However, the staff was friendly and efficient and the rooms were clean. The location is also excellent.

The adjacent public parking lot served as sleeping quarters for a few of the area's homeless and served as an early morning depressant.

Overpriced

This is one of those hotels that I believe is overpriced and over rated, just like the LA itself. I paid $100 per night. The area is safe and the room was big however the walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbors on top and beside. You can hear them walking on your cieling. Internet is not free which makes me very angry. At least parking is free. Shops are walking distance.

Cheap - and, boy, does it show!

I feel like I have to give one nod for cleanliness. The housekeeping staff was both friendly and thorough.

However, the hotel was smelly - it reeked of mildew. The carpet was stained. The paint on the walls was peeling off. The tub was stained. The shower head was so full of mineral deposits that there was simply no water pressure. The springs on the mattress were sprung. I think the mattress must have been 50 years old.

And the walls are paper thin. I spent all night hearing my neighbors in the throes of passion. Literally - all night. The gaps under the door allowed all the hallway noise into the room. The phone kept ringing in the middle of the night (eventually, I unplugged it).

If you only have $100 to spend for a night, can't find anywhere else, and don't want so sleep in your car, then i guess this hotel is for you.

I would recommend, however, spending and extra 50 bucks and going somewhere safe, clean, quiet, and comfortable.

Not fancy, but perfectly fine

This is obviously an older hotel that could use some renovation work (parts of the carpet and the bathroom mirror in my room were rust stained) but the hotel staff were friendly, my room was thoroughly cleaned every day, and the location was excellent--close enough to the beach and local attractions that I could walk or take a short bus ride and yet nestled in a quiet area where there was no traffic noise.

The walls are a little thin; I could hear that my neighbor's TV was on, although it wasn't loud enough to be terribly distracting, and in the morning I could hear the maids knocking on doors. For someone who requires total silence, this hotel might be a little disappointing but it wasn't a problem for me.

My room was huge and featured a hair dryer, coffee maker, and other appliances that weren't fancy but were in good working condition. The lobby was beautiful and had a fire going all the time; the only complaint I had here is that the rental computer station was on the fritz most of the week that I was there. However, there are plenty places in Marina Del Rey to use a computer, including a number of WiFi spots.

I would definitely stay at Marina International again. It was a good bargain hotel.

OK For The Price

Spent one night after flying into LAX and departing the next morning for Catalina. Considering the pricey hotels in the area, this one was fine for the purpose used by us. It was quiet, the room was clean. Desk clerk was unwilling to ask shuttle driver to take us the one mile to the ferry dock but when we asked the driver ourself he was obliging. Shuttle to/from airport does not run after 8:30 pm.

We stayed here Aug 4-7 for my sisters wedding which was held elswhere in the Marina. The front desk staff was polite but the hotel itself is dated and somewhat dismal. There was one small, slow elevator, we took the stairs. There was dirty carpet in the room that turned my feet black. The bed was very uncomfortable and the sheets were crumpled and untucked. The alarm clock in the room didn't work, and there were only three lamps, so the room seemed dimly lit. The hallways are dimly lit too, and you'll need ear plugs because your neighbors TV and conversations will be audible in your room. We had rented a Yukon and the parking garage couldn't accommodate it, so we had to park in the hotel loading zone, with their blessing. Convienient for us but not too welcoming for other guests. It met our needs and the price was right ($109 for a double) but next time I would look around a little more.

Nice Hotel at a reasonable rate, great location a bonus!

I have stayed at this hotel twice and have been pleased on both stays. I travel quite often and for the money, this hotel is up to par. It is not a luxury hotel but a 2.5 to 3 star property. The rooms were nice and large as well as airy, make sure to ask for a room on the second or third floor in the main building with a balcony facing either the marina or pool. Do not stay in the bungalows as they are quite dated and dark. Parking is underground and free. It is a good base for sightseeing as it is close to Venice Beach, Santa Monica and is an easy commute from the airport. Several restaurants in the area, some within walking distance.

Terrible service and dirty room

The location of the hotel is nice but it is very old and our room had what looked like blood splattered curtains. We asked staff to take them down or give us a new room. Never happened. We asked several times to no avail then when we got home from the trip called to speak to manager. Left 3 messages for the manager, faxed a letter, mailed a letter and never heard anything. What kind of customer service is this? The whole situation was disgusting and the staff should be ashamed of themselves. I would under no circumstances ever stay there again or recommend it to anyone.

Top Local Tips for Marina Del Rey

Taxi Catch it at the end of the marina....from the hotel to the exit of the marina, our taxi fare was $9.80...the same price as the rest of the way to LAX.

Explore Admiralty Way If you have a car or a bike, explore Admiralty Way all the way to the end. The drive is beautiful, right along the Marina... and at the end there is a nice collection of restaurants including Mexican and Italian.... all right on the water. If you're with someone you love, take a walk behind the restaurants along where all the boats are tied up, preferably at sunset. This is a nice, slightly hidden, out of the way spot that is mostly populated by locals.. but we're nice to tourists so don't hesitate to ask us to take that picture. We'll probably say yes.

Dinig in the area The Terrace Cafe, 7 Washington Blvd. Great food and service, attended new years eve party etc.
