Great place to stay in Malibu

This place was great for the Malibu traveler that doesn't need all the frills to make them happy. I stayed here and found that my room was clean and fresh smelling, my towels and supplies were neatly presented and undamaged or used, the bed was tucked and fluffed, the front desk was friendly and helpful, the housekeepers seemed to do everything there as they helped me with a problem with my remote, chased away a little lizard common to the area, and were able to help me find fun things to do. It was old, you can tell, but the service and the staff and the closeness to a nice QUIET beach was worth the extra value I got.

Had my wedding and reception there. That was the worst mistake I ever made. The waiters were awful, I did not get the champagne toast (which I paid for). The men's bathroom toilet was backed up!! the manager/owner was rude to my guest. She pushed my guest out by 10. Do Not have a wedding there!! You will regret it.

$250 a night for a disgusting, rotting moldy shack of a motel (not hotel)

The owner of this motel should be embarrassed. Clearly there is no "pride of ownership" here. It strikes me that the current owner is very short-term focused since there is little chance anyone will have much good to say about this motel and little chance that any guest would want to stay here again. The only chance this owner has is to continue catering to people willing to spend about $250 per night on an old, dirty, run down, moldy shack of a motel with poor customer service, antiquated systems, noisy disgusting jacuzzis, a freezing cold "heated" pool, cramped parking, shoddy construction, broken light fixtures, squeaky closet doors, pee-stained bathrooms, unworkable windows, and odd-shaped waste of space rooms. What a joke that we actually brought our bathing suits specifically for this pool. The website is completely misleading. When we arrived it took half an hour to check us in even though we had the confirmation number provided directly by the motel. We were then double charged for our stay. This took well over a month, several phone calls, several attempted faxes (but their fax was not working), a report to the Better Business Bureau, a great deal of stress and frustration, several broken promises, and as of this writing, yet unresolved. Truly a sad way to run a business.

Smell and Attitute The Worst

It is hard to believe, as their front office was trying to tell us that they did not KNOW their septic tank was being pumped the day we arrived. People were unhelpful, we walked to the beach and saw police hassling a woman for mistakenly walking into the wrong bathroom. What has happened to Malibu? All in all the most disappointing display of what was once a beautiful place.

Top Local Tips for Malibu

Charges for parking Dukes, Paradise Cafe, and all other beachfront restaurants in Malibu charge for valet parking, and there doesn't appear to be a way to park your car yourself. We carry no cash, so this was frustrating to us.

Enjoy! Great fun checking out the local food scene

Giovanni's Best Food in Malibu Incredible Italian food. Quaint family owned, old school place on the Pacific Coast Highway. A really nice, friendly place with great service and amazing food. A memorable, romantic dinner for two for under $100 in Malibu - that's a great deal! Veal Marsala is exceptional. Perfect portions don't leave you feeling bloated just satisfied. Wine , beer, free parking.
