Historical Traveller Reviews of Wilshire Plaza Hotel

Incredible value!

from mjoe
I got this hotel for $59/night through Priceline. After reading the reviews I thought it would be a catastrophe. To the contrary this was great! We were there only for one night. Service, room, location were great. They even have internet access in the lobby. We had no car so to be right accross from a Metro Station was perfect. I didn't feel anything unsafe about the environement. The only thing I would say is that the air conditioning was not very efficient in the room and very few TV channels. We will use this hotel again!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for the second week of our trip to America. After staying in the most fab hotel in San Francisco the week before we had high hopes for the Radisson. On check-in the front desk staff were decidedly unhelpful and got rather shirty when they discovered that neither myself or my partner had a credit card! The room was average, nothing special really. The hotel itself was situated miles from anything really, it took us an hour on the bus to get to Santa Monica, and i did not feel safe walking even across the road at night. The food in the restaurant was quite nice, but again nothing special. When i fell ill with stomach flu the desk were ridiculously unhelpful as to how we get a doctor to see me, and in the end we had to get taxis to and from the hospital. Be warned, do not use the phone! on check out our bill was enormous because i had to phone home when i was ill. All in all, very rude staff and the hotel was nothing special and quite out of the way. i wouldn't stay here again, and would suggest others to find somewhere else to stay.

Awful, horrible, vile

from Frogwell
I have nothing good whatsoever to say about this hotel, it was simply awful, my only advice can be stay somewhere else unless you want to be spoken to like a piece of dirt by the front desk staff.

poor quality

Very noice due to street noise. I would not stay here again. At one time, the furnishings were probably nice but they are all very worn. The carpet is in desperate need of being replaced. Full of stains.

Look somewhere else.

Very pleasant except for check-in and check-out

from drlaz
When we arrived (10:30pm on a Friday) the Front Desk was overwhelmed, apparently because of overbooking. As a result we were upgraded to the premium floor, but we were in line a good 20 minutes. The room was very nice for this class, clean, relatively large, and with a good bathroom.

At check-out there wasn't much of a line but the bill was wrong in their favor (parking should have been included and was charged separately.)

Very good rates ($130 and down) seem to be available right now.

Horrible, Horrible Customer Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
I'll start from the beginning, upon checking in the front desk could not find our reservation. Having left the confirmation number at home they called corporate where I made the reservation. No reservation still. two seconds later I called them and got the confirmation number right away. Then after I authorized them to charge my parking they tried to make me pay for it in cash. The room itself was OK. The only real problem was the shower head had popped out from the wall. However, upon checking out, they tired to stick my father in law. who stayed in the room across the hall, with a movie that neither he or my mother-in law watched. Making matters even worse was the fact that after our charges cleared and th hotel was paid, they charged us again for a no show on a reservation we never made! Upon discovery we called both the hotel and corporate and were told nobody could help us over the weekend. When I persisted one employee told me to "get over it." Because we were initially not sure who at the hotel had used our card, and the hotel would not tell us, the bank suggested that we get new cards. They also suggested we call the police if we thought the card had been used without our authorization, of course this is before the hotel admitted to messing up our reservations. However when I told the corporate Radisson folks about this they immediatley informed me that it was their corporate policy to no longer assist the customer once the legal authorities became involved. Not only will I no longer stay at any Radisson Hotel, but I will be encouraging everyone I know to stay away from them as well. All of their hotels are franchises and corporate has little control over them. Don't stay at this or any other Radisson.

Not impressed

We booked this hotel through Priceline and got the rate at $60 per night, plus parking. I thought some of the front desk staff were rude as well. When I got home I noticed when viewing my credit card statement online, that they over-charged me for something. Now I have to take the time to dispute the charge and call the hotel.

The part of town was not that nice.

I Really Liked this Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I really enjoyed this hotel. I went to LA to see the King Tut exhibit and didn't know where to stay as I don't know LA at all. I was travelling with my 12-year old son and wanted to stay someplace safe. This hotel was great with the exception that it is strictly business oriented, and therefore not very kid-friendly. Once I got there I understood why as it's very close to downtown LA and the financial district. It's also right in the middle of Korea Town and caters to the local Korean community; Asian Air houses it's flight attendents and pilots there.

The room was wonderful, with gorgeous views of the Hollywood Hills from the tenth floor, and the bed was very comfortable. Two exceptions made this an otherwise almost perfect stay: The restaurant is so-so at best, and it took room service almost a whole day to pick up a room service tray that was left outside in the hallway. (Their BBQ pizza though was pretty good and not outrageously expensive by room service standards.)

I am going back to LA in August, without kids, and have already made reservations to stay there again. The rate I got was excellent when I used a Quest discount that made up for the valet parking fee. For me it's an excellent home base to explore Hollywood area.

Presently Suprised

This was our first time in Los Angeles, after reading the reviews we were somewhat hesitate to stay here. This hotel is in Koreatown area. Our room was clean and comfortable, hotel staff was very pleasant. Metro Link and Restuarants across the street. Restaurant in hotel has a wonderful buffet breakfast. Busy area, somewhat noisy, we felt safe walking at night. We would probably stay here again.

Okay-but not great

from kgard
We stayed for one night a week ago. We didn't realize that we were in Koreatown. Not a very nice area. The first room we got faced Wilshire and the Air conditioner didn't work on high, and we asked for another room. They only had a smoking room left, we looked at that and that was still noisy, so we asked if there was anything else. Luckily it was during the week and they were'nt full, so they moved us to a business room. That was very nice and faced the back of the hotel, no busy street. We were on the 11th floor. It was still noisy, just because of the area. The lobby was really nice. The beds were so-so and the bathroom was kind of small.

Top Local Tips for Los Angeles

Yes, Virginia, there is an underground subway (Metro) in LA It's not well publicized, but the LA Metro is a great deal at $1.25 per ride, assuming they are going in the direction you want to go in...they can even get you to LAX for that price

Traffic and transportation It is best to avoid the freeways, if possible, between the hours of 3pm and 6pm. Traffic is very heavy at this time and it will take twice as long to get to your destination. The public transportation is great and travels all around the city and in the suburbs. Senior rates are .25 on the bus. There is also a subway system that goes to the train station and parts of the city. The train does go to the airport and also there are buses that go to the airport.

Great Mexican Restaurant La Chula in Korea Town not only serves authentic Mexican food, they also have excellent service.
