The hotel was just fine, and all the staff pleasant, but Matthew in the day spa gave me a massage to help with travel pain and I have to say, if you are looking for a good, strong, excellent massage - this is the place. I have never posted a review of anything before. That is how good it was.
Great service & staff

So-so hotel

from redstone1365
Arrived at night from a 13 hour trip. Staff not too friendly and bellboys not too willing to help us with the baggages. Rooms are cramped and stuffy with smell of cigarette smoke. Bathrooms are clean but really tiny I have to figure out a way to conveniently use the lavatory without dropping my toothbrush into the toilet bowl. Have a lovely bathroom freebies though. English style soaps, shampoos etc. that looked nice enough to give as gifts. Have noisy neighbors (drunks) which gives the hotel a little seedy ambience. Breakfast is ok but not extensive. Location is great but on our first night, after checking in, we went outside the hotel area and was greeted by beggars. It's downtown I know. Plenty of stores and eateries around.

Average hotel. Not too bad but certainly not great.

I expected more

The lobby is excelent. The bedroom a little bit out of date and worn out and that counts also for the bathroom. The windows weren't dobble-glazing, so when it rains it makes a hell of a noise which you cannot sleep through. The tv-internet in the room didn't function and when I saw a movie I couldn't get rid of the OSD-screen. BTW, the internet is not free at all, despite what someone writes overhere. When I asked if there was an internet café around the hotel, the guy with the quif told me there was one in front of the hotel. It was raining like hell then, however, a costumer who was waiting behind me told me there was internet café in the same building. How about that??? I didn't try the 5$ croissant and the $7 orange juice. Instead I had a breakfast outside the hotel for a normal price, but those are prices you pay everywhere in hotels like the WG. Another thing I liked is that there is always a cab waiting outside for you. If you are a tourist, you might think about staying in Hollywood. In downtown LA, there isn't much happening for you. Very grey neighbourhood with tall buildings.

Wilshire Not so Grand

The hotel is in need of a serious remodel. The Lobby area is very nice and you would expect the rest of the hotel to be nice also. The first room they placed me in was part of a suite and was very small and noisy because of the neighbors going in and out. They moved me without any fuss the next day. The second room was a little bigger but the bathrooms in both rooms are too small. There is no counter space to place a curling iron, shaver or anything! The staff is nice and helpful, although the bell hop broke my luggage handle and did not tell me. I found out at the airport. I would look for other accomodations for my next stay.

Waste of Money

Small, worn, old-style, expensive room with luke warm shower. Broken bedside phone and bathroom sink were never fixed after complaints. When I complained to management at checkout, all I got was an apology and an offer of a cheaper room next time - well, there won't be a next time.

after reading some reviews about the area etc I was slightly put off... but I am glad to say the hotel is immaculate. Great service, amenities and the location is perfect. Literally 1 minute away from the Subway, and 1 minute away from a bus stop covering most of West L.A. (Santa Monica etc). Area is clean and staff are friendly

I'd def go back

Good hotel

Stayed there for a week in October, 2004. Nice hotel, good accomodations and restaurants. Friendly helpful staff. Free breakfast and drinks on the business floors. The only negatives I found were that the air conditioning is slow to cool your room, and no ESPN on the TV service!

Pleasantly surprised!

We stayed here for just one night. However, our room was only $145. and the check in clerk upgraded us to the business floors. Floors 14-17.

On these floors, they serve free snacks and drinks all day. We also enjoyed a beautiful FREE breakfast, which consisted of everything you would want.

Our room was very spacious, and our bed was very comfortable. We had two separate bathrooms, which is a nice feature.

Our room was probably re-modeled recently, as there was no appearance of any sort of wear and tear, and it appeared to be new.

The parking charge is horrendous though. Yes it's $24. a day! Yikes!

We had a free shuttle to and from the Convention Center, which saved at least that much on cab fare however.

Overall, we would definately stay there again.

Not worth the price

from chrislu
Stayed at the Wilshire for 12 nights while attending a convention in town. The outside and lobby would lead you to believe that the hotel is quite nice, but the rooms convince you otherwise.

The parking is $24.00 a night, we were given a deal because of the convention or we would have used a lot a block or two away. Not that you would want to do a lot of walking in this neighborhood. I would never go out alone, too many homeless and panhandlers on the streets downtown. Even with a group this was a problem.

The rooms were of average size with nice sized windows. The bathroom, however, was tiny with very limited counter space. I had a problem with my shower and called to tell housekeeping and someone fixed it the same day. The employees were helpful.

The room was rather shabby, with chipped and missing paint on the furniture and old worn carpeting. It really needs renovating. The walls were so thin that I could hear my neighbors talking when they came in and even opening their drapes!!

With so many staying for the convention, finding ice became a problem. We were passing one another in the hall with ice buckets, going from floor to floor in search of ice. On the 7th floor there was never ice after 8 a.m. We checked on a refrigerator, but were told we would have to be put on a waiting list and if one became available it would be $24.00 a day.

I really expected more for that kind of money.

Best holiday ever

You would not believe how friendly everyone was to us and free gifts we were given when we shopped it is just unheard of in Canada.
The Wilshire Grand hotel downtown L.A. was delightful. Lorraine who owns a clothing shop in the hotel Capucci Creations could not have treated me better if she were my mother, and the bell clerk could not have been more helpful. Shopping at the Bargain Line down the street was awsome and the free gifts they gave us were out of this world and they also ship items for you. The Dr. Phil show was just too much and so much fun, the beaches were a site for sore eyes since in Ontario we seldom have seen the sun this season. Just a wonderful trip and we would definately go again. Sharon

Small room with thin walls

from A TripAdvisor Member
PROS: Close to two shopping malls with food courts, across from the Metro, not as many homeless wanderers as Pershing Square, etc., clothesline in shower, shower massage in shower, free wireless internet in room (I could only get MSNBC for free, everything else was $10/day) CONS: Small rooms, small bathrooms, very thin walls (could clearly hear neighbor talking on phone, opening curtains, ringing phones several rooms away) housekeeping didn't always remember to change my sheets every other day and although I always heard them knocking on doors at 8 AM they never cleaned my room until 3 or 4 PM, furniture needed updating (worn, chipped finish), not worth the price I paid for the room, downtown Los Angeles shuts down on the weekend so a lot of stores and restaurants are closed on Saturday and Sunday
