The downtown standard has large, minimally furnished rooms, a great rooftop bar, very good staff and is just a great place to spend a weekend. Avoid floors 7-11 if you plan to sleep before 2 am.

t have to pay for it!

The room reminded me of when I was in college. Bed on the floor, no dresser, two hangers, no iron, no coffee pot. The mini bar had every indication that this was a swingers type of hotel by the selection of available condoms for purchase next to the 6.50 bottle of Glacier Water for sale. Every possible chance to charge you they took it! Local calls 1.00 each, long distance 4.50 + toll charges X Minute. Parking 6.50 if you went to the garage next door.

The club was ODD but cool if you were looking to hook up with the barely clad locals. The POD style water bed seating was unique but what chance did you have of leaving there w/o spilling your 10.00 drink was minimal. If that wasn't enough to take for an evening the 2nd floor "blue" movies that played soft porn while you waited for the elevator was probable the most uncomfortable that I have been in a while.

Only chance that I would ever stay there again is if I win another free trip.

I really enjoy this hotel

The downtown Standard is a great hotel. Valet, bar drinks, room service, and the restaurant can be a little pricey, but the room rates are relatively low so it balances out. The decor of the hotel is very cool and the rooms are very modern. And while the reception staff are not overly friendly, they have always been cordial and professional. We often go to the Rooftop Bar and the bartenders, wait staff, and security team are always good to us. One thing to note though is that this definitely seems like a party hotel (at least on the weekends).
Every time we've stayed, there are always many parties going on in the rooms around us. We don't mind this at all though and if you don't either, then definitely stay there. It is a ton of fun!

Fun Times

I came here for my birthday. Though the rooms are nothing really big to talk about besides the bathroom area, the bar upstairs is a lot of fun.
This website made me think that this place would suck and there would be lots of intimidating people, but it was the opposite. The bartenders were nice, both guys and girls and the crowd was cool. The hotel side of it, not the best service. Quick note: Don't valet, you can park in the same parking lot if you just drive around the corner and pay $8 instead of $25.

HHMMM...a one hit wonder?

I don't really know where to start with this hotel because I feel quite neutral about it, but I'll just dive in. Valet parking was expensive but convenient and cordial, the service inside was mixed: we were given a complimentary upgrade to our room (nice) but the young staff person who offered it to us was robotic, strangely unemotional. He and the others seemed to operate by the philosophy that smiling is uncool, which made them seem uncomfortable and insecure. But they're hardly the point. The lobby is impressive. The rooms were comfy but our toilet plugged up easily although they were prompt with repairs. If you love retro, you'll love the decor... nice views too. Glass showers were the best part. We paid only $95 for the night and at this rate, it was worth it, but be ready for an icy reception both from the staff and the ultra modern rooms. I'm glad for the experience but I don't think I'd return.

Barcholerette Party Gone Wrong at the Standard Downtown

i first read the reviews about the hotel and most of them were bad reviews. we decided to give this place a try anyways to see if maybe people were just being to hard on the place. well, the reviews were right. this place has very bad customer service. i mean very bad. it all started when we tried to check in to the hotel. my friends and i arrived around 5:00pm to find out that we didn't have a room. we called in the reservation on Tuesday and we booked the room for Saturday nite.
we were given a confimation number and everything. well, on saturday, as we were trying to check in, the front desk guy told us our name and confirmation number was not on the computer. we couldn't believe it. we sat there for almost 45 minutes and nothing happened. the guy didn't apologize for their screwup. the standard hotel gave our room away and the only thing he offered was to call the Bonaventure Hotel for us to see if they had any rooms available and lucky they did. the bonaventure hotel was alot nicer and the people there are so friendly and helpful.
the customer service at the standard SUCKS. we went down there for a bacholerette party and they ruined everything. the vib we got there was not good. i would not recommend this place to anyone. don't spend your money here, it's not worth it.

Hotel decor is a must-see, rooftop bar is something you can't miss, but the service is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Apparently this hotel thinks they're too good for customer service - snobby front desk attendants with an even worse parking attendant. Both stooped to the same level in my eyes - minimum wage workers with a chip on their shoulders. If you go expecting a good time with your friends, absolutely a great idea. If you go expecting great customer service, you're better off staying at the Bonaventure down the street.

Great for Younger Crowd

Spent a Weekend at The STANDARD, which wasquite interesting. THE hotel is quite different as far as the decor (Very Bright Colors Used in the lounge, resturant, etc.) Kinda of reminded me of the sixties. My biggest complaint was that the pool was basically unavailable at night to take a dip before going to bed, as it is located on the roof, where they have a bar and nightlife. I think I may have liked the hotel better if I were 20 years younger. I can't complain too much as we won the trip to LA and stayed at the hotel for free. $25.00 a night to park your car at the hotel is crazy. We found a parking garage about 25 feet from the hotel and paid $6.60 a night to park. The roof top bar was all right, but, I've been to much better. The honor bar was totally outragous (EX: $2.00 for a 50 cent candybar, or $6.00 for one beer.) We went down the street and bought stuff for the room to munch on and to drink, and still spent less then $10.00. Our ice bucket had something in it, and it took them a while to bring us another one. The beds were comfortable enough and interesting since they don't set a frame but on a platform, close to the floor. The bathroom was cool with the glass wall which you could see who ever was showering and ice bucket right there, so romance could be had. I probably would not stay there again if I had to pay for the room, it wasn't that impressive. The Bonaventure across the street was magnificent and beautiful. Stay at the Standard if you're in your twenties, or love to party, and spend a ton of money, as nothing is cheap there, and they charge you for everything imaginable.

ve ever stayed at

First night wasn't bad. Big room, nice and clean. Went to the restaurant for breakfast the next day. Waiter took our order fairly promptly. One hour later, got up and left because food still wasn't delivered. At 5:00 on second day, room still hadn't been made up. Had to ask the front desk to get it cleaned. Second night, parties all night. Guy in the next room had to be forcibly evicted because of drunk and beligerant behavior. Played music LOUDLY, even after security asked him twice to turn it down. LAPD finally escorted him out. To their credit, they didn't charge me for the second night. I'd never stay there again.

Falling Apart

The good: Great view from the rooftop bar.The Bad: I've gotten the impression that since they've achieved the reputation of a hip place to go that they don't feel that they need to try any more. I visited The Standard downtown LA when it first opened and had a great time. The lighting was great, they had a DJ with a great sound system. Even the very LA crowd didn't seem that pretensious. What happened?I went there last Saturday night and everything has fallen apart. No DJ. Harsh lighting( to me lighting is everything when setting the mood of a bar). We got a room so we wouldn't have to pay the $20 cover charge and so we could come and go from the bar as we pleased. Let's just say the communication within the staff is not very good. After first being denied access back to our room I had to ask to talk to a manager and explain to him that that was the reason we got the room in the first place. What a headache.Don't screw up a good thing. Don't expect people to pay $10-$25 for parking, $20 cover, $8 for a beer, $10 for a mixed drink and think that they will tolerate a mediocure bar with rude staff. That was my last time visiting The Standard.Places like this are forgetting the most important thing. The customers.

Enjoyable stay

I stay at The Standard Hotel downtown when I'm in LA on business. The hotel has a fun life of its own and offers a government rate. The rooms are modernistic in design, interestingly different and comfortable. The desk is the width of the room and excellent for spreading out your work. The housekeepers keep the rooms clean. I have found all of the staff helpful and courteous. The on-site restaurant serves good food and is open when you need it to be. The roof bar is one of a kind, and well managed. The bartenders do a first rate job. The fitness room is well maintained with several machines and free weights. The hotel is a fun experience.

Top Local Tips for Los Angeles

Lkers Game Premier Level Seats were outstanding! Waiter service throughout the game, VIP entrance, acess to Lunge and Bar

Cabs Cabs are about $45 to/from LAX.

Hollywood Maybe go ahead and stay at the Hollywood Standard... I've heard its a bit less ridiculous, even if very "Hollywood". Or just get another similar priced hotel... its bound to be better.
