Top Local Tips for Los Angeles
Without a car If you're not going to rent a car (and you don't really NEED to, whatever they say), just buy a $17 weekly pass at the grocery store, and you can use the subways and buses as long as they are metro ones as many times as you want. I always travel mostly on public transport in LA, and it's nowhere near as bad as they say; most places are easily reached, although I won't deny it's slightly more convenient in a car. Weekly passes run Sunday to Saturday, so to get the best value for money buy on a Sunday. If you want to use public transport and don't buy a pass, it will cost you $5 for a day pass & $1.25 for each journey, so it's definitely worth it. Also, on many of the routes, every third bus stop is a Rapid stop, and travelling on those buses is definitely faster, so sometimes you'll be better off walking a little further down the street to get to the Rapid stop. And whatever you do, don't try walking to LA Zoo from Hollywood Blvd - believe me, it's a LOT further than it looks!
Brazilan Food at it's Best-Bossa Nova Beverly Hills CA This is one of our favorite restaurants. The Bauru is to die for. Ham, Monterrey Jack and fried egg oozing through a toasted roll. The menu is huge, with many traditional recipes. Fried plantains are gooey and sweet. Get them as your side. You can eat indoors or out and people watch if you like. the service is fantastic and the chefs know what they're doing. We have a daughter that's pretty picky and she's absolutely loves this restaurant. If you're in LA, don't miss a chance to try this place. You won't be disappointed!
