My review of the Mayfair Hotel in Los Angeles: ___________________________ My advice: Avoid this place like the plague! It should be named, "The Pre-historic Mayfair Hotel." I was very disappointed and felt cheated/swindled. The only nice thing about the hotel was the lobby; it is very spacious, with high ceilings. But, the service and the rooms are really abysmal and atrocious. The workers are apathetic. The rooms vary tremendously in size and quality. You might get a clean, neat, and sparsely furnished/decorated room, or one that is very dingy, shoddy and dismal looking. The furniture looks several decades old. The mattresses are extremely uncomfortable. Too often, the showers expectantly become either scalding hot or freezing cold, due to faulty water pressure. For the room, there really is only primitive climate control. The hotel centrally provides EITHER heat OR water-cooled "a/c." And even that system is only functional during certain months of the year; otherwise, you get only a fan blowing stale air. So, you will probably not get the comfort of heat or a/c that you really expect or need. You will most certainly share your room with bedbugs and cockroaches! When you first enter your room, you will definitely notice the disgusting smell of mold and mildew. The bathrooms are very, very tiny; my closets at home are larger. The area is close to downtown L.A., but it is a very SCARY and DANGEROUS neighborhood. There are many criminal types and homeless folks lurking about that hotel; so, be extra careful and vigilant—especially after dark! I felt like I was in the old zombie movie "Night of the Living Dead!" ___________________________

This place is ridiculously horrible. The service is terrible and the people working are seriously incapable of running yet alone working at a hotel. They charged us twice in the parking garage then refused to refund our second charge. Horrible customer service! We ordered lunch from the restaurant...WORSE place ever..don't even get me started on the repulsive food. First they had an old menu in our room so we got over charged from the old prices and the manager of the restaurant refused to let us pay the cheaper prices since it was "our fault" that we had the wrong menu. Then our food was cold and completely different from the explanation on the menu, we asked for our money back and he refused. I HOPE THIS HOTEL AND RESTAURANT GOES OUT OF BUSINESS because their lack of customer service is absolutely ridiculous!

Horrible service, location and room

Ok the place looks nicer outside than inside but as the name states this place is old!! The service was bad in the sense that there was no place for us to store our bags while we waited for the room so they stuffed them in this little room with other bags and they didn't even have any tags for ID. Then we went to eat in the buffet restaurant (bc it's not the kinda place where u can go take a walk and find a nice place to eat). The buffet was lacking with a very limited selection of plates to choose from and very bad service, only saw the waiter once to order water and never even got a refill. The halls smell like old and the room...WOW...extremely small,tv has no remote, has no safe for valuables, the bathroom is even smaller where door opens one inch away from toylet and shower floor is stained. So far the people have not been rude or mean but the place is lacking in so many ways. I never write reviews but I felt responsible to warn others of this hotel's poor quality...needles to say I'm having a talk with my travel agent when I get home!

On arriving, we were displeased by the strange odor in our rooms. The bath was small. The breakfast was horrendous, served by a very unhelpful waiter and we were concerned as to what the strange red substance on our bedclothes were.

Good budget hotel in LA. Walking distance to heart of downtown LA, rooms are small and one funny thing about this hotel was our drunken bellcaptain from my home country.

Absolute nightmare

I booked over the internet and found the pictures to be very nice. However the hotel is run down, it stinks and the bed linen was foul we walked in our room and turned straight back around to reception, the lady stated we could have a refund from the company we booked through so we left and found alternative lodgings. On getting home we have noticed we were charged and then recharged for an upgrade to a suite and now we are finding it difficult to get our money back, don't go there and don't stay.

Very Bad Impression

The staff was very helpful and freindly. We went to our room though and it was tiny. I felt like I was in a childs playhouse. The bathroom was large anough to make one small turn. I went to the closet which was the size of the bathroom and it smelled like urine. It was very strong and distinct. My feet hung off the bed and my back was poked by the springs you could feel through the thin mattress. The neighborhood it was in didnt look too inviting either. It ended up being so horrible I checked out and stayed on my friends couch. Highly suggest not staying here.

Top Local Tips for Los Angeles

A sweet Suite The Mayfair Hotel offers a Junior suite for about $150 a night--the same price you'd pay for a regular room at most of the other downtown hotels. At this rate you receive double the space of a normal room (an excellent commodity when most of LA's rooms are small,) two bathrooms, a couch that folds into a bed, a microwave, a refrigerator, an extra TV, free internet, and en excellent view. Check it out!

Hotels in Downtown LA You mat be looking for somewhere a bit more luxurious, I've stayed nearly everywhere Downtown so here are my scores: City Center Motel (5 minutes)- 2/10, very cheap but disgustingly filthy. Sheraton Hotel at Macy's (5 nights) - 8/10, very good with beautiful beds and linen. Amenities are excellent but noise from jets is loud so stay on lower floors. Wilshire Grand Hotel (49 nights) - 6/10, excellent location but very bad air-con, uncomfortable beds + old rooms. Marriott Hotel (4 nights) - 9.5/10 - the most comfortable hotel I've ever been in. Everything was perfect. Westin Bonaventure (19 nights) - 7/10, nice hotel but won't be back after a very bad experience on my last stay. Hotel Figueroa ( 3 nights) - 5/10, very dark and humid rooms but excellent bar. Standard Hotel (28 nights) - 8/10, rooms aren't great but atmosphere is the best in town, definitely not for the business traveller. Hilton Checkers (2 nights)- 9/10, typical Hilton standard, everything was good.
