Brilliant service

The rooms were beautiful and spacious, serviced twice daily. The service in the hotel was brilliant nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is situated across from the Beverly Centre which is perfect for shopping and the Hard Rock Cafe. During our stay in August 2005 the front of the hotel was being refurbished but we were not disturbed by this, there is a little road noise at the front of the hotel but nothing of note. The access to the pool was a little unusual (through the hotel corridor, across the sun terrace, especially when the children forgot their key and had to come back through reception wearing towels!). You are within easy reach of some of the local sites and the local bus service was great value from the end of the road. Breakfast was good and the service quick, we were on vouchers (already paid for by someone else) and so had the same breakfast everyday. Got a bit boring after 4 days though! The only thing they couldn't help me with was one of the lenses fell out of my glasses and they didn't have a screwdriver small enough but did suggest the 24 hour drug store at the next corner.

Lovely, Accommodating and Beautiful Environment

The hotel accommodations were perfect and the environment just beautiful. However, my sister's expensive perfume (only the expensive one) and two pairs of my gold earrings (there were several) disappeared. They definitely disappeared from the room during our stay and the perpetrators seemed to know what they were doing in that there was more than one bottle of perfume and several pairs of earrings...not quite as noticeable.

Will never go here again

from countofmontecristo
This hotel carries a four or five star rating and is part of the Sofitel chain, which while not top class, should at least provide some assurance of quality.

The hotel rooms are dirty. I stayed in one and my colleague in another, in December 2004, and both rooms had bathrooms which made you afraid to enter. Grime covered the grouting and limescale remained in the bath and sink. The showerhead was broken.

Dirty rooms, that is a complete no-no for a four star hotel. I don't mean dusty, I mean engrained dirt, months if not years old.

The staff smile and are friendly, which is their way of telling you no. A request for shampoo was never fulfilled. Can I have a glass of ice brought to my room? Not really, it is too late (11.30 pm). Can I change rooms, since this one smells of cigarrettes? No. And so on. But very friendly refusals.

The internet access didn't work half the time (I do mean half). So for business people, this hotel is out of the question. The hotel had a lot of excuses, but I didn't pay for excuses, I paid for internet access.

World brands like Sofitel are supposed to assure a certain level of, if nothing else, cleanliness, but this Sofitel should not even be 3 stars.

Lovely!!

We spent 4 nights in the Sofitel and loved every minute. It is a beautiful hotel, the staff were very efficient, friendly and helpful. Our room was absolutely gorgeous with a view of the Hollywood sign and the worlds most comfortable bed!! It is in a fantastic location, directly opposite the Hard Rock Cafe and Beverly Center, a quick taxi ride to Sunset strip clubs and close walking distance to Melrose Ave. If you want to shop, go dancing and dine out at great resturants, this is a good choice.

Excellent Hotel

We stayed at the Sofitel, West Hollywood in October 2004 for a week. After spending the previous week at a very pleasant but quite modest hotel in Anaheim, we were glad to be welcomed by the 5 star quality of the Sofitel. We were welcomed upon check-in, and at the request of our 5 year old son, our room was changed to the other side of the building to include a view of the "Hollywood" sign - its amazing what a child with impeccable manners will do for you in the USA! A very accomodating receptionist then had a fold out bed delivered for my son as the rooms on this side are not twins. Even with the fold out, and the king size bed we had plenty of room to move with 3 in the room. We have stayed in many hotels worldwide and The Sofitel has THE most comfortable beds and pillows we have ever encountered. Hotel facilities are very good, with a well equipped gym, a small but adequate pool, a nice bar and a good restaurant as well as very good toiletries in the bathroom which were replenished daily. Room service was prompt, efficient and friendly and tailored meals to our 5 year olds needs. The hotel is right opposite the Beverley Centre, which has excellent shopping, a block from the Hard Rock Cafe and Starbucks and a 15-20min walk or short taxi or bus ride from The Grove and Farmers Market for more excellent shopping - a great location considering not much in L.A. is within walking distance. The concierge was very good in recommending places to go/see and organised transport and tours quickly and efficiently. The Sofitel is really very good value, well positioned and by no means the most expensive hotel around the Beverley Hills/West Hollywood areas. We will definitely stay here again.

Completely satisfied - would stay there again!

We were very pleased with this Sofitel. After a minor glitch with our room, the staff quickly (and pleasantly) corrected the situation. Our room had a great view of the hills plus the bed was extremely comfortable. In addition to down comforters, they use feather beds, making for a wonderfully good night's sleep.

We had breakfast in the morning in the cafe and thoroughly enjoyed the food AND the service. The fitness center was well equipped and very clean. Their staff was actually cleaning the equipment right before our eyes (something more hotels should do.)

We highly recommend this hotel. The management has done a nice job of instilling good customer service into all of its employees.

Disgusting Bathroom, filthy carpets, unfriendly service.

from WanderingWomble
I staying here as we speak :) for work and a holiday for an entire three weeks. As I had pre-booked on expedia and paid the full non-refundable amount, I can't really move but I long to. So I don't have the benefit of hindsight, and I am currently in a stunned state about how bad this place is...(for the money of course, if it was two/three star rated and $80-$100 a night fine...for my room access it is $195+all the taxes).

The majority of the staff are very nice people, but there is a general no-can-do attitude. My first room had no broadband access but a beautiful view. My second room had broadband, but a whole load of other probs. Here are the negative things which have happened - so far!. (I am not a picky traveller, and if this was an under-developed country fair enough, but it's a hotel in LA!)

1. I changed rooms twice and all three bath tubs had a layer of impregnated grime which couldn't be removed, and i had to buy myself some flipflops to stand in it. The tiles are chipped and dirty and the taps were rusty.
2. The carpet is filthy and there are several large holes and cigarette burns in it (I am in a non-smoking room). I generally don't like touching things, and the maids have no idea about cleanliness.
3. The hot chocolate comes in big pots for $10 (when you add charges), that made about 6 cups. When I said I wanted just a cup of hot chocloate one night (to be less wasteful but still paying the £10 bucks) this could not be done!
4. The room has high speed interent for which one has to pay a premium on the room plus extra for the access itself. This would have been fine, but 6 days out of my 2 weeks so far the internet has had problems and was down for hours at a time. As I am working this is a great inconvenience. This was "Not our fault we have an unrealiable ISP" - well get a new one!
5. The food is merely edible. If you have low expectiations you would htink it is fine but nothing to write home about.
6. The plugs in my room ,look like fire hazards. They spark, wobble and looked like they were on their last legs.
7. The service is very efficient and quick, however as I said, ask for anything beyond what is in their rules and you will be struggling. Also the general atmosphere isn't particularly friendly...the staff although nice people don't look like they want to be here, and I don't blame them.
8. I ordered cheescake a bit early and they said it was still frozen.

I could go on but I already have, and you get the idea...a bit Fawlty Towers for all those who know the British comedy and for those who don't please don't come here expecting a four star hotel...or better still stay away!

Very Nice Chain Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Sofitel for the second time, large room (also had a balcony), well furnished, marble in the bath, nice sized desk, etc. etc. This is a good central location as well.

I got the room this time via Priceline, for $125, and at that price it is also a very good value.

very nice

the first thing you notice at the sofitel is the efficiency of the staff, they were really quick!!! the entrance was very grand and so was our room. the whole room was very nice, nicely decorated, clean, the amenities were posh and the free evian water with the turn down service was nice. the bed was amazingly comfortable, it was lovely. this hotel was also very convenient to the beverly centre which was just across the road. altogether this hotel was great to stay in and we hope to return soon.

Great hotel, excellent location

from mike_del
Stayed at the Sofitel Los Angeles in February this year. A very enjoyable stay (made more so by the fact that I joined the Accor / Sofitel Privileged Guest Programme shortly before depature). The hotel is very handily located to the Beverly Center and the California Welcome Center as well as other amenities (Ralphs supermarket, American Express Bureau de Change etc). We had a very good room on the 9th floor, the bottled water (Evian) was very welcome and turn down service were very nice and everything worked very well. The furnishings were very good and the room was spacious and clean. I note that one review remarked that there were no tea / coffee facilities, we noted that most mornings, there was free coffee in the main lobby. Staff were friendly and helpful, room service and concierge were efficient. I would stay there again !

Good Service, dirty room

from alexsndiego
First off, the service was great. Nice friendly staff. Everyone was courteous and helpful. Gym was good. Feather bed was great. Evening turn down service was nice. Toiletries in room were excellent with bathrobes.

Now the bad: The carpet in the room was dingy. They tiles in bathroom were dingy also. Very dirty rooms. Very dirty hallways and facility.

Great location - Super helpful, friendly staff

Stayed at the Sofitel for 5 nights in November 2003. The room had an awesome view, the staff was ultra friendly and helpful. The location is the best there can be. It is close to everything! I would stay here again and again. The only downside was no free coffee, no free food of any sort.
