This place is a winner

from hartss
Wow. What a surprise to find such a nice hotel at LAX - and a real bargain to boot. I paid $99 for a terrific room (my corporate rate plus Starwood preferred guest), which had obviously been renovated recently. What a great job they did! Really beautiful, rich colors, even the carpeting was cool. The bathroom was quite clean and simple, nothing fancy.

The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, as were the concierge, the valet parking guys and the waiters at breakfast downstairs. This place is truly a winner - will definitely stay here next time I am in LA, as it is very convenient to Santa Monica and the marina, yet a lot less expensive.

It is a nicer hotel than some of the Westins I have stayed at.

Nice Hotel... A Bit of Confusion upon Check-out!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I got a good deal for this 4-star hotel on Priceline, and was excited to see what a 4-star is all about. (I'm generally a budget traveller.) I checked in and found the room quite nice, the bed comfy. The bathroom was clean but the tub drained very slowly. Very good soundproofing: no airplane noise at all!

Next morning it was almost time for my friend to pick me up, so I packed my things and used the TV check-out system, then sat and waited for her. I sat for an hour and a half, figuring she was stuck in traffic, before I went to the lobby to use the payphone to call her. (Using the TV check-out disallows using the room phones, etc.) Turns out she had been right on time. She asked for my room in the lobby, but the lobby staff, seeing that I had apparently "checked out" using the TV screen, told her that there was no way I could possibly be in my room. They didn't try to call up or make an attempt to check if I were there. A bit more creative thinking on their part - the TV check-out system is the hotel's idea, after all - would have saved us both a lot of aggravation.

All in all, a good night's sleep at a reasonable price - but I'm not sure I get what all the fuss is about a 4-star hotel.

Nice and Clean Room

from A TripAdvisor Member
Me and my husband stayed at this hotel for one night in April of 2005 and we loved the decoration of this hotel. Lobby was nice and room was clean and neat. Had brakfast buffet at the restaurant on the first floor (overlooking the pool area). Buffet was about $14.00 per person...it was ok...they let you look around the buffet area before you decide to eat so you can decide for yourself.

Great bed

I stayed at the Sheraton Gateway on a one night stopover in March. I checked in at 11.00am and chose to upgrade to a suite for a large discount and was able to go straight to my room, which was great after a flight from New Zealand. The staff were all courteous and helpful and the room was great. What made my stay however was the Bed. It was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in and I had the best nights sleep I have ever had in a hotel.

Sheraton Gateway #1

Excellent 1 night stay at this "cool" hotel. Most impressed with restaurants, excited for the new "Shula's 347" that should be opening in April. I will definately come back and stay here again. AWESOME beds!!!

Great hotel - but parking is a long way off

from someone,too
We stayed here for the last day of our vacation - which meant we had to bring everything to the hotel room in order to pack. (Including carrying everything backt to the car...) The parking lot is (if you have a lot of stuff and a lot of bags) very far away. You have to cross a street and circle around the hotel (as the postern to the meeting facilies is closed at night).

The room is really great - big, nice and very clean with in-room coffeemaker. (Just the bed is way too soft. You really sink into it - I had to do some exercise in the morning to uncramp my spine.)

Hotel staff is very friendly, too. (Even if you arrive in dirty hiking clothes.)

Great value, excellent service

from A TripAdvisor Member
Usually, I do not prefer to stay at airport hotels. But the deal I saw on one of these internet sites was one that I could not refuse. Hotel lobby is immaculate. The guest services agents were professional, friendly (usually uncommon at airport properties) and exceptional! I had one problem with the key to my room, and when I returned to front desk, the clerk handled it very professionally and apologized. The room was spotless and the bathroom was very clean. The only thing to bring up is the fact that there was only one hangar in the closet. It seemed that when I slept on the bed, that I was on a cloud. Wake-up service was very easy. Morning paper and express check-out receipts were placed underneath my door by 4:15am. That is very important to business travelers like myself. And there was coffee at the reception area made available to all guests. This hotel underwent a renovation and I must say that it went very well. I did not have the opportunity to try their restaurant and room service, though. I will be returning to this Starwood property. This is a jewel close to LAX and I will be recommending this hotel to all of my colleagues. Great value and, above all, exceptional customer service. Well done, Sheraton Gateway LAX!

like a cruise, but on land!

Stayed here for one night layover on way home from Cambodia Feb. 5, 2005. Made decision based on 1/2 mile proximity to airport, free shuttle and Trip Advisor reviews. Well-appointed clean rooms, with modern style of bedding and furnishings. Great service at pool area. Attendant rolled chaise into sun for me, gave me table for my drink in a gracious way more typical of a high quality cruise. Quite good food in the hotel restaurant. Excellent value for money--$89 plus tax per night with AARP card. One thing missing is car rental on site. But can walk down to Radisson nearby and rent car there. Would stay here again.

A happy accident

from bickley
We were put into this hotel by BA when our aircraft developed a mechanical problem and the return flight to London had to be delayed until the next day. In every way the Sheraton Gateway was better than the Holiday Inn at LAX where we spent the first night of our recent holiday. The lobby staff were efficient, the food and service in the restaurant were good and our room was great. We will definitely consider returning to this hotel when we stay at LAX again.

I love this hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Spent one night at the Sheraton Gateway before flying out the next morning. Beautiful hotel; Great amenities and an amazingly comfortable bed. I felt truly relaxed in my hotel room. Morning newspaper and in-room coffee was great. Ate at the restaurant in the hotel as there was quite a rainstorm outside and did not want to go out. Also, after a long day of travel, just wanted to relax. Dinner at restaurant was a wee bit questionable, (service a little shaky). However, breakfast buffet was great. The concierge personnel were also quite nice. Overall, I would definitely stay here again whenever I have a layover at LAX.

Top Local Tips for Los Angeles

Chaos at LAX Traffic at the airport can be horrendous. It took 30 minutes for us to be picked up by National Car Rental's shuttle bus due to the traffic. Allow extra time for traffic and car rental pickup.

Call them Call direct to get the park and fly package it is not on the website.

Fun FREE thing to do Located on Wilshire go see the Academy of Motion Picture's museum which features all sorts of free interactive things to do on two floors. If you're a movie buff this is a must see!!
